This book was really cute but come on now… Are we really going to ignore the fact that there was a 26-year-old pedophile? Gross。 I feel like the author of this manga could’ve done a lot better。 I really liked the book up until that point and then I lost respect for it。

Really heartfelt touching comic about friendship and acceptance

I really LOVED this。 It’s funny, sweet and while there is (possibly a romance) developing, I love that it focuses on friendship。 I’m very excited to read volume two!

This was so cute!

Because a 26 y/o dude is his ex, and then he hung out with a dude who looked to be in his 20’s and had a small beard (or goatee? I can’t remember lol)。 This makes me scared for Sanada because I feel like older dudes may take advantage of him and I hope that doesn’t happen。I know this manga is a work of fiction, but I just really care about Sanada lol。 。。。more

I'm a bit torn over how to rate this, the main thing is that this is not what I was in the mood for currently or why I bought this manga, another is that it's probably going to develop a lot from this first volume on (so this volume is mainly setting things up, the interesting content is likely to come)。 Also, I get the feeling that this is created by someone who is connected to or part of the LGTBQ+community, so it's not for me to have opinions about what subjects to deal with, especially not i I'm a bit torn over how to rate this, the main thing is that this is not what I was in the mood for currently or why I bought this manga, another is that it's probably going to develop a lot from this first volume on (so this volume is mainly setting things up, the interesting content is likely to come)。 Also, I get the feeling that this is created by someone who is connected to or part of the LGTBQ+community, so it's not for me to have opinions about what subjects to deal with, especially not in a culture outside my own。 The point is I just wasn't up for the homophobia in this story, but I understand the need to touch on it, especially since things are way different in Japan。 So that's my reasoning for rating this "only" 3 and for probably not continuing this series。 。。。more

This sweet book kicks off a three-volume manga series about a group of high school teens learning about themselves and each other。 Norshiro transfers to a new school and is quickly intrigued by Sanada, a student who seems to have no friends except a girl he knows from elementary school。 Other students warn Noshiro to stay away from Sanada based on rumors that he is secretly gay but Noshiro is determined to become friends with the other boy。 Eventually Sanada does reveal that is his gay, but only This sweet book kicks off a three-volume manga series about a group of high school teens learning about themselves and each other。 Norshiro transfers to a new school and is quickly intrigued by Sanada, a student who seems to have no friends except a girl he knows from elementary school。 Other students warn Noshiro to stay away from Sanada based on rumors that he is secretly gay but Noshiro is determined to become friends with the other boy。 Eventually Sanada does reveal that is his gay, but only to Noshiro, who is just as determined to be friends。This graphic novel is a nice slice of life that rings true for a high school experience。 Students shun Sanada because of a rumor that he is gay and this perpetuates several misunderstandings about homosexuality, especially in teenagers。 The contradictory culture is dealt with well—homosexuality in manga is fetishized, but real people are looked down upon and ostracized。 While Noshiro’s initial reaction to Sanada’s coming out is denial and fear, he quickly realizes his error and becomes fiercely protective of his friend against bullies and other rumors。 Their friendship follows a natural progression and is ultimately uplifting。 。。。more

Not sure how I feel about this quite yet, but I think I like the way the story is going。 I also like that the main character looks different than the typical pretty boy look。 I love the pretty ones, but it's nice to get a change。 Although, I wish all the characters didn't look so much younger than they are, but that's just the art style。 Not sure how I feel about this quite yet, but I think I like the way the story is going。 I also like that the main character looks different than the typical pretty boy look。 I love the pretty ones, but it's nice to get a change。 Although, I wish all the characters didn't look so much younger than they are, but that's just the art style。 。。。more

I feel incredibly conflicted about this book。 On one hand, the way it deals with casual homophobia is both realistic and surprisingly nuanced。 All of the high school characters feel like real characters, even the unusually boisterous main character。 And then Sanada's 26 year old ex-boyfriend shows up。 It would be one thing if he only had the initial scene, but he just keeps showing up, and he displays a creepy amount of interest in the relationships between two high school students。 I would love I feel incredibly conflicted about this book。 On one hand, the way it deals with casual homophobia is both realistic and surprisingly nuanced。 All of the high school characters feel like real characters, even the unusually boisterous main character。 And then Sanada's 26 year old ex-boyfriend shows up。 It would be one thing if he only had the initial scene, but he just keeps showing up, and he displays a creepy amount of interest in the relationships between two high school students。 I would love for there to be an older gay role model in this book, but did it have to be somebody who dates teenagers? It left a bad taste in my mouth。 I want to continue the series, because the rest of it is so good, but I'm really uneasy about the role this much older character is going to end up having。 。。。more

I have conflicted feelings about this one。 On the one hand, our boy who doesn't know how he feels is adorably upbeat and wants to be good even if he fails at it。 On the other, the book repeatedly uses specifically the word 'homo' and in ways that English speakers really wouldn't。 I'm not sure if it's a translation error or what, but it's hard to read with the number of times that specific word is thrown around。 Otherwise, I really appreciate that we're seeing a complex relationship that even inv I have conflicted feelings about this one。 On the one hand, our boy who doesn't know how he feels is adorably upbeat and wants to be good even if he fails at it。 On the other, the book repeatedly uses specifically the word 'homo' and in ways that English speakers really wouldn't。 I'm not sure if it's a translation error or what, but it's hard to read with the number of times that specific word is thrown around。 Otherwise, I really appreciate that we're seeing a complex relationship that even involves an older member of the community acting a bit as a guide and counselor for our main two。 Like Dreams at Dusk, it helps contextualize the main characters' experience as part of a larger community rather than just ~secret lovers~。 。。。more

I'm really enjoying newer LGBT manga that is moving away from the creepy and problematic trends in older yaoi manga。 This one was super cute! But saying that, they haven't moved far enough away cuz halfway in and we are told that a high schooler was dating a 26 year old。 That kinda ruined the mood a little for me, especially since the story would have worked exactly the same way if Hide was just an older gay friend。 Still, very cute and I hope I enjoy the other books in the series as well。 I'm really enjoying newer LGBT manga that is moving away from the creepy and problematic trends in older yaoi manga。 This one was super cute! I like that noshiro recognizes his own homophobia and corrects himself。 This manga does a good job of showing the subtleties of homophobia, from joking about gay men being rapists to the fetishization that BL and yaoi can be。 It does a good job of showing how kou navigates life to stay safe。 Hide is the only supportive adult, which is good that there’s at least one, since lgbt teens are 40% less likely to die by suicide if there’s a supportive adult in their life。 I really loved the scene when h I like that noshiro recognizes his own homophobia and corrects himself。 This manga does a good job of showing the subtleties of homophobia, from joking about gay men being rapists to the fetishization that BL and yaoi can be。 It does a good job of showing how kou navigates life to stay safe。 Hide is the only supportive adult, which is good that there’s at least one, since lgbt teens are 40% less likely to die by suicide if there’s a supportive adult in their life。 I really loved the scene when hide tells noshiro he’s not weird or wrong。But there’s the glaring issue of him being a pedophile。 A 26 yr old dating a 15-17 yr old kid is not okay。 I’ve seen this in wandering son too where a lgbt adult hits on a kid which is not okay。 That reeks of the homophobic myth that being lgbt means being a pedophile。 To be fair I’ve also seen this in hetero manga too, teachers and students getting together like in daytime shooting star and a 10 year old and 22 yr old romance in ran and the gray world。It also not okay that he invited noshiro out and tricked him into going to his home。 Noshiro’s parents and hide should know each other first, the parents should know that noshiro is going over to hides home and they should know hides address。 That’s not okay for kids to be befriending adults unknown to their parents。 。。。more
