Summary

Lt。 Eve Dallas is about to walk into the shadows of her husband's dangerous past。

As it often did since he'd married a cop, murder interrupted more pleasant activities。 Then again, Roarke supposed, the woman lying in a pool of her own blood a few steps inside the arch in Washington Square Park had a heftier complaint。

When a night out at the theatre is interrupted by the murder of a young woman in Washington Square Park, it seems like an ordinary case for Detective Eve Dallas and her team。 But when Roarke spots a shadow from his past in the crowd, Eve realises that this case is far from business as usual。

Eve has two complex cases on her hands - the shocking murder of this wealthy young mother and tracking down the shadow before he can strike again, this time much closer to home。 Eve is well used to being the hunter, but how will she cope when the tables are turned? As Eve and the team follow leads to Roarke's hometown in Ireland, the race is on to stop the shadow making his next move 。 。 。

51 books in and it’s still fresh。 I just love the way the team work together。 I like the clues that they follow and the evidence they gather leading up to the inevitable apprehension。 I feel like it’s real detective work and real teamwork。 I’ve got not 52 on my TBR pile and I hope there’s another 50 in JD Robb。

Another hit by JD RobbI’ve read each and every book in this series and this one doesn’t fail。 I always like when they travel and especially to Ireland。 Roarke。。。I wish we could have more of him。 What he does。 What his first name is。 But I’ll take what we get。 For now。 Lol。

Hard to believe this is book fifty-one of the popular “In Death series from J。 D。 Robb。 Eve Dallas has had more trials and tribulations during this succession than you can shake a police badge at, but continues to be a character and series you cannot get enough of。 Eve has always be a no-nonsense cop who along with her partner Delia Peabody, never holds back in their quest to bring the guilty to justice。 They definitely have their work cut out for them when investigating the death of Galla Modes Hard to believe this is book fifty-one of the popular “In Death series from J。 D。 Robb。 Eve Dallas has had more trials and tribulations during this succession than you can shake a police badge at, but continues to be a character and series you cannot get enough of。 Eve has always be a no-nonsense cop who along with her partner Delia Peabody, never holds back in their quest to bring the guilty to justice。 They definitely have their work cut out for them when investigating the death of Galla Modesto who was out jogging one evening。 She is the heir to a wine empire。 She has been savagely stabbed while jogging and when Eve and husband Roarke come along to the crime scene, Roarke spots a ghost and nemesis from the past。 He briefly views Lorcan Cobbe, a murder for hire assassin that Roarke knew when he was growing up in Ireland。 He knows somehow Lorcan is involved in this murder。 Lorcan gives him the finger and runs off, leaving Roarke with a sick feeling。 Eve concludes that Galla’s husband Jorge Tween is somehow involved with the killing, showing little if any emotion when told his wife was murdered。 Roarke, Eve and Delia are on the case, and Roarke knows Lorcan is there for a reason。 Lorcan claimed that he was Patrick Roarke’s son and that he was entitled to the money made from Patrick's empire。 Patrick incidentally was a mob boss who was filthy rich。 Roarke wanted no part of the business and parted ways with his father。 Lorcan thought he deserved the fortune even though he was never accepted as family。 Now he wants to kill Roarke and all those close to him, to get his ultimate revenge。 Over the years it appears that Lorcan has killed hundreds of people, always escaping detection。 He is pretty well daring Roarke to come get him, so he will have the pleasure of killing him and many others in Roarke’s family。 This is classic Eve Dallas, though Roarke who usually has a more minor part in these books, is totally front and center。 Robb has proven again there are still lots of stories left in this series, and SHADOWS IN DEATH leaves no shadow of a doubt that the author will continue to write quality crime classics。 。。。more

A bit disappointing for me。 Lots of talking, quite slow, not the best installment in the series。 Still a good book and I enjoyed it, but not my favourite。 Four stars。

So this was the second time I tried to read this book and I decided to finish it this time as I really don't like NF a book and have read all of the series。But I personally feel that maybe this series has run it course as I really struggled with it。 The characters just seem so dry and one dimensional and the story just seemed pointless with almost nothing happening。 So this was the second time I tried to read this book and I decided to finish it this time as I really don't like NF a book and have read all of the series。But I personally feel that maybe this series has run it course as I really struggled with it。 The characters just seem so dry and one dimensional and the story just seemed pointless with almost nothing happening。 。。。more

Cannot believe we are already at #51! This time, a blast from the past from Roarke threatening to kill those dear and near, or even not so near, to him。 Working together with Eve, his cop, and her team, they will do the best to catch the killer - and avoid being stabbed themselves。Although we do have the same sort of pattern - murder, Eve and Roald involved, one or both of them in danger, but victorious if slight beaten up in the end。And still, J。D。 Robb manages to have every single one of these Cannot believe we are already at #51! Shadows in DeathReally good book。 Regardless of what shows, it’s a 5 star book! Accidentally submitted before clicking all the stars! Enjoyed!

As always, wonderful。 AND we got to Ireland at the end, to see the family, to save the family and to serve justice。 I love Eve。

a murder mystery that spans two and maybe more continents。 This was not a page turner。 It moved slow, slow, and slower。 The back cover tells the whole story that took 503 pages to write。 quote from back cover "While Lt。 Eve Dallas examines a woman's body in Washington Square Park,, her husband, Roarke, spots a familiar, smirking face among the onlookers。 It's Lorcan Cobbe, a man he knows from the streets of Dublin。 Cobbe kills for a living and burns with a personal hatred for Roarke。 Eve suspect a murder mystery that spans two and maybe more continents。 This was not a page turner。 It moved slow, slow, and slower。 The back cover tells the whole story that took 503 pages to write。 quote from back cover "While Lt。 Eve Dallas examines a woman's body in Washington Square Park,, her husband, Roarke, spots a familiar, smirking face among the onlookers。 It's Lorcan Cobbe, a man he knows from the streets of Dublin。 Cobbe kills for a living and burns with a personal hatred for Roarke。 Eve suspects that the dead heiress's spouse hired Cobbe -- but while they're hunting for Cobbe, he's hunting for them。 Law enforcement agencies worldwide have pursued this cold-hearter killer for years, but now Eve and Roarke must protect each other and get the drop on the elusive assassin--even if they have to travel across the Atlantic, far beyond Eve's usual jurisdiction, to do it。 。。。more

You really can’t go wrong with an Eve Dallas book - but I do think this might’ve been one of the strongest series additions in the last few years。 The development of external characters, and the connections it revealed to Roarke’s past was fascinating。 And the pace of the book as refreshing。

Robin Cobb

Always enjoy this series。 This book did not disappoint。

It was okay。 Maybe it's the slump talking。The whole animal cruelty though got me clutching my cat closer to my chest while I'm trying to finish this book。I just expected more confrontation from this enemy from the past plot I guess。 It was okay。 Maybe it's the slump talking。The whole animal cruelty though got me clutching my cat closer to my chest while I'm trying to finish this book。I just expected more confrontation from this enemy from the past plot I guess。 。。。more

Solid but not as good as othersI hope JD Robb isn't stuck in a rut。 This one was okay, but lacked some of the narrative complexity and depth of character development as others。I think this one would have benefitted from hearing the villain POV。Also, for a few books now there hasn't been any expansion in the lives of the main characters (baby, marriage, divorce, big event) or addition of any new characters。 We're long overdue for one or both。 Solid but not as good as othersI hope JD Robb isn't stuck in a rut。 This one was okay, but lacked some of the narrative complexity and depth of character development as others。I think this one would have benefitted from hearing the villain POV。Also, for a few books now there hasn't been any expansion in the lives of the main characters (baby, marriage, divorce, big event) or addition of any new characters。 We're long overdue for one or both。 。。。more

。。。more

You may need to read this one。This is a little different book。 It appears there are different folks as well as a different location for us as readers to travel to。 Eve Dallas rocks。

Shadows in Death is a slow death for readers。 My first JD Rob book。 Set in a futuristic context but drags and the writing style is not for new readers but I guess only those who are familiar will enjoy。 Took a long time to finish it
