Summary

Classic movie buff Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online by “Alex。” Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush。

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown。 Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum。 Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a。k。a。 her new arch-nemesis。 But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever-it-is she’s starting to feel for Porter。

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter。 The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately。

In this delightfully charming teen spin on You’ve Got Mail, the one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet。

Like I know he did things that put him in that position, what with the whole attempted armed robbery and high jacking her scooter, but the adults in his life all know that he has drug issues after busting his knees。 So why not get him some actual help。 What is jail gonna do for him?? I wholeheartedly believe that Davy deserves better and did not need to be villainzed because he was a victim。 He needed guidance, and instead of truly helping him, they all, adults included (which makes it all the more aggravating), made him out to be the bad guy, as if he could’ve just stopped whenever, and that he was choosing his lifestyle。 It’s all so stupid。Also the thing between Bailey and Porter happened so quickly that I wouldn’t even consider it an enemies to lovers situation。 Like he teased her for like a little bit and she decided she hated him, but then like 30 pages after that they were making out after their date??? 😐😐 Yeah no thanks。 And don’t get me started on their “hidden identities “。 It was so aggravating to have to read the book as Bailey tried to figure out who Alex was, even when major hints were dropped right in front of her face。 Like she wasn’t even the one that figured it out。 She met him and that’s when all the signs clicked in her head, like wtf?!! I know you’re not that dense。 Not to mention, HER DAD FIGURED IT OUT BEFORE HER。 That’s so embarrassing, especially because she hangs out with Porter more than her dad, so it really goes to show just how aggravating it was to read。 。。。more

I enjoyed that book so much! I’ve never read anything from Jenn Bennett before, and must have stumbled on Alex, approximately looking for books featuring epistolary relationships。 Started reading with no expectations, and was served a hell of a cute love story。 Damn I’m happy I read that book。 I can already picture myself re-reading it。

This wasn’t revolutionary but it sure was super cute! This book had the recipe for a sweet, summer-y YA romance down pack complete with game nights, and surfing。 I now definitely love Jenn Bennett as an author and will probably read Starry Eyes now。 Be aware of some trigger and enjoy 300 pages of utter YA cuteness with a pinch of summer。

I AM IN LOVE 😭😭 this book is so cute and it’s just everything!!!! It would be a 5 star but i’m quite picky, however it’s still amazing。I read this book in one sitting!!! it’s too good! I love bailey and porter 🥰

2/5Ok this was cute but the main character really annoyed me 😭 like how did she not figure stuff out,,, everyone else figured out the "plot twist" before she did。 Not that it's really a plot twist bc it's literally in the blurb but whatevs。 Bailey didn't figure it out until literally everyone else did。 It was so frustrating 😭I did still like this book, though。 This is bare minimum stuff, but i was fully expecting this to be a very white book。 i was pleasantly surprised when several of the charac 2/5Ok this was cute but the main character really annoyed me 😭 like how did she not figure stuff out,,, everyone else figured out the "plot twist" before she did。 Not that it's really a plot twist bc it's literally in the blurb but whatevs。 Bailey didn't figure it out until literally everyone else did。 It was so frustrating 😭I did still like this book, though。 This is bare minimum stuff, but i was fully expecting this to be a very white book。 i was pleasantly surprised when several of the characters were people of color and there was some diversity, specifically within the two main characters' family members and close friends。 Again, bare minimum behavior, but refreshing nonetheless。 Goes to show how starved i am for more diversity in popular books,,, ANYWAYSome issues; This book did not handle addiction very well。 It's definitely part of the story but i don't think it was approached properly。There were some loose ends, like what about Bailey's mom??? Also, Porter laughing at some sexist joke someone made about Bailey 🧍🏽‍♀️ uncalled for。ALSO can we discuss that Bailey is 17 (a minor) and Porter is 18 (not a minor)🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️All in all, if i did not Think Critically™ about this book at all, this might have been a 4 star read, but I can't help it。 I simply cannot overlook the issues i had with it。 But i might give this author another try sometime! 。。。more

Welp, this book definitely got me out of my reading slump。 I think the book was a great witty romance and a easy read, everything was predictable and you knew everything that was gonna happen already from reading the blurb。 Some don’t like that but I didn’t mind it at all。 The writing was fine, I had a hard time connecting with the characters and really feeling for them。 This book have me wattpad vibes, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a wattpad book honestly。 This was “enemies to lovers” but i Welp, this book definitely got me out of my reading slump。 I think the book was a great witty romance and a easy read, everything was predictable and you knew everything that was gonna happen already from reading the blurb。 Some don’t like that but I didn’t mind it at all。 The writing was fine, I had a hard time connecting with the characters and really feeling for them。 This book have me wattpad vibes, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a wattpad book honestly。 This was “enemies to lovers” but in my opinion they weren’t really enemies and if they were it was or a quick second。 I feel like this was just some teenage rom com movie put into a good that was made in the early 2000s which I love。 I didn’t have a problem with the plot or the writing style at all。 I feel like though the fact that they made this into like a “love tringle” thing was really weird and them “cheating” on each other。 Although it was made up and in their own head I didn’t really like the idea of it。 But over all it was a easy 4 stars and a quick read。 。。。more

Un livre à lire au bord de la plage sans prise de tête ! Il nous met dans une bonne ambiance, avec une histoire bien construite des personnages attachants malgré le manque d’action。

quite predictable。 I am not sure if it just means I am a older, wiser person, or if it is just obviously written。 It was a young adult book about teen romance with events I saw coming。 It was cute and I see I could seen a teen loving the story。 I must be too old for this kind of stuff now。Also, I have also noticed a trend with a lot of young adult novels。 The main character has something that makes them different。 In this one, Bailey is a film buff。 The impression I get is it's goal is to round quite predictable。 I am not sure if it just means I am a older, wiser person, or if it is just obviously written。 It was a young adult book about teen romance with events I saw coming。 It was cute and I see I could seen a teen loving the story。 I must be too old for this kind of stuff now。Also, I have also noticed a trend with a lot of young adult novels。 The main character has something that makes them different。 In this one, Bailey is a film buff。 The impression I get is it's goal is to round out the character。 I feel like it's a bit lack luster or that we are being told "see they are 'quirky' and not like other's their age。"Due to the predictive nature。。。。 2 stars 。。。more

SO SO SO GOOD!!I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out bookwise because I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy so I found myself craving the romantic fluff that is Jen Bennett’s writing。 I’ve read Serious Moonlight a couple of times and love it so I was keen to read Alex, Approximately, especially after reading the plot summary。 It was everything I could’ve wanted and more。 Sure it’s not some super insightful criticism of society but it doesn’t need to be。 Books can be read just for pleasure。 My initial p SO SO SO GOOD!!I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out bookwise because I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy so I found myself craving the romantic fluff that is Jen Bennett’s writing。 I’ve read Serious Moonlight a couple of times and love it so I was keen to read Alex, Approximately, especially after reading the plot summary。 It was everything I could’ve wanted and more。 Sure it’s not some super insightful criticism of society but it doesn’t need to be。 Books can be read just for pleasure。 My initial plan with this book was to read a couple of chapters each night but I couldn’t pace myself and read the whole thing in two days。 Oh well, it was worth it, 5/5 stars!! 。。。more

Overall, I'd say not bad。 The MC is "not like other girls", and quite frankly has no critical thinking skills whatsoever。 It made me sad how they villanized the ex-best friend because he was an addict。 Like, that was messed up。 There are a lot of loose threads left by the end of the story。 Overall, I'd say not bad。 The MC is "not like other girls", and quite frankly has no critical thinking skills whatsoever。 It made me sad how they villanized the ex-best friend because he was an addict。 Like, that was messed up。 There are a lot of loose threads left by the end of the story。 。。。more

This book actually surprised me, I wasn’t expecting it to be funny and I really liked the main characters。 It wasn’t a spicy book but the intimate scenes came out of nowhere。 A very cute read, I highly recommend!

When I first read the synopsis on the back of this book, I thought that it would be a cute and quick read to push me out of a weeklong reading slump。 I never thought that I would get so caught up in the plot and the characters that I was trying to avoid reading quickly and getting to the ending! This book was very enjoyable and I really liked the main character, Bailey。 I will definitely be reading more from this author because this book was great!

Awh, stop。 This isn’t the type of romance I typically read since I always read new adult romances, but I loved this。 The only thing that kinda bothered me was the whole miscommunication thing。。。。 idk, i’m contemplating giving this 4 stars or 5 stars。 For now, it can stay at 5 but we’ll see。 I really liked this little enemies to lovers story and honestly I think I would check out more Jenn Bennett books in the future。 Also, this pulled me out of a reading slump!!! P。S。 I decided on 4。5 ⭐️

I think Jenn Bennett is one of my new favorite YA contemporary authors??? I adored Starry Eyes a few years ago but waited to pick this one up for some reason。 I really liked this it, not as much as Starry Eyes (the next level drama was a little much) but I can’t wait to dive into like very other Jenn Bennet book on my tbr ASAP。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A review of sorts but more about how it made me feel。This is a perfectly good YA romance。 I’ve had an online friendship before where we hadn’t met yet and you felt like you could just say anything。 They’re special。 (Only if you know they are real and not creeps) I think Bailey’s growth in this book was amazing。 She was a lot more complex than I originally had her pegged。 I loved Porter because he seems like someone I would have been attracted to at that age。 I like someone that can keep me on my A review of sorts but more about how it made me feel。This is a perfectly good YA romance。 I’ve had an online friendship before where we hadn’t met yet and you felt like you could just say anything。 They’re special。 (Only if you know they are real and not creeps) I think Bailey’s growth in this book was amazing。 She was a lot more complex than I originally had her pegged。 I loved Porter because he seems like someone I would have been attracted to at that age。 I like someone that can keep me on my toes but is also extremely sweet and romantic。 Some things in this book didn’t add up like how she was shot but the Davy seen at the end didn’t freak her out more?
