Summary

In the conclusion to the Greystone Secrets series, the Greystones and their doubles, the Gustanos, must team up to save the alternate world—before both worlds are lost。

As book three of the Greystone Secrets series opens, the Greystone kids have their mother back from the evil alternate world, and so does their friend Natalie。 But no one believes the danger is past。

Then mysterious coins begin falling from unexpected places。 They are inscribed with codes that look just like what the Greystones’ father was working on before he died。 And with the right touch, those symbols transform into words: PLEASE LISTEN。 And FIND US, SEE US, HELP US。 。 。 。

The coins are messengers, telling the Greystones and their allies that their friends in the alternate world are under attack—and that the cruel, mind-controlling forces are now invading the better world, too。

After another spinning, sliding journey across worlds, the Greystone kids must solve mysteries that have haunted them since the beginning: what happened when the Gustanos were kidnapped, what created the alternate world, and how a group of mismatched kids can triumph once and for all against an evil force that seems to have total control。

I felt like there were many places in this book that could have been edited Into a more concise and enjoyable book。 I spent a lot of the book wondering how on earth the characters were going to get through the situation。 The desperate-ness of the situations became repetitive and I was skipping whole paragraphs just to move the story along。 Plus with the length of this book, it could easily loose some pages and the story would not suffer。 With the short attention span of kids a shorter book would be more appealing anyway。 Overall, an entertaining read that reads quickly。 A satisfying end, but I may still be thinking about this book as I try to figure out some of the logistics。 😉 。。。more

Great bookThis book, as well as the two previous books in the trilogy, was fast paced and riveting。 Waiting anxiously for a new book by Haddix!

A nice wrap up to the Graystone series。 I enjoyed the story。

This book reminds me a lot of Among The Free or Children of Jubilee。 But I thought it did a better job than those books at not having everything wrap up too convenently。 I don't think I mentioned this in my other reviews, but it's most relevant to this book。 This series does a really good job at teaching the dangers of propaganda but explaining it in a way that it should make sense to kids。 While I still have a really soft spot for the Shadow Children series - I think the Greystone Secrets serie This book reminds me a lot of Among The Free or Children of Jubilee。 But I thought it did a better job than those books at not having everything wrap up too convenently。 I don't think I mentioned this in my other reviews, but it's most relevant to this book。 This series does a really good job at teaching the dangers of propaganda but explaining it in a way that it should make sense to kids。 While I still have a really soft spot for the Shadow Children series - I think the Greystone Secrets series may be up there with the Missing series as the best Haddix series。 。。。more

Great ending to a wonderful story, however it took a little too long to get there。 I am afraid the unnecessary amount of detail would lose some of my middle school readers。

Always amazed by how close to home her books are。 I love the goodness in them also ❤ ✊🏽

The conclusion to the Greystone mysteries was just okay。 I didn’t like the direction the plot took in this final book and really wanted resolution with the main characters of the story, instead many new characters were introduced and there wasn’t a sense of resolution with the characters we came to know and love。

The conclusion to the Greystone Secrets trilogy。 A must read for fans of the series。For grades 4 & up。

I see this is the final book in the Greystone Secrets series, so really it's a trilogy, but I also think Haddix ended this book so there is always the possibility to do more。 These books are great for kids who like a mystery story with a little bit of a sci-fi element。 Super for kids age 9-12。 I see this is the final book in the Greystone Secrets series, so really it's a trilogy, but I also think Haddix ended this book so there is always the possibility to do more。 These books are great for kids who like a mystery story with a little bit of a sci-fi element。 Super for kids age 9-12。 。。。more

Great books! All three!!! Amazing series! Started reading the first one due to Howard County battle of the books and could not stop reading all of them! Great story! Tons of great messages! Loved every detail and the characters。 Very well written! Thank you!!!

I loved this book。 Just as amazing as the other two。

The final installment of The Greystone Secrets, The Messengers, follows a group of children as they fight against lies and corruption with hope and unity。I read this book with my 7yo。 She enjoyed the whole series。 The writing is perfect for the target demographic。

Very good, and I feel like especially relevant。 Seek truth。 Make your own choices。 Don’t blindly believe what your leaders say。 Don’t live in fear and despair。 And love others。 Help them。 Because nothing combats fear and lies like love and truth。 I didn’t really like how Natalie was barely in this one, but that’s really the only thing。 Endings aren’t typically Haddix’s strength, but she’s definitely getting better at them。 Fascinating series and I hate having to say goodbye to Chess, Emma, Finn, Very good, and I feel like especially relevant。 Seek truth。 Make your own choices。 Don’t blindly believe what your leaders say。 Don’t live in fear and despair。 And love others。 Help them。 Because nothing combats fear and lies like love and truth。 I didn’t really like how Natalie was barely in this one, but that’s really the only thing。 Endings aren’t typically Haddix’s strength, but she’s definitely getting better at them。 Fascinating series and I hate having to say goodbye to Chess, Emma, Finn, and Natalie。 。。。more

This book was absolutely unputdownable。 This was a beautiful book and unlike most new books, it had morals and values。 Many of these were under the surface。 I loved the use of the need to share stories, work together, focus on beauty, and especially the focus on what’s really important in life。 In a day when many are addicted to screens, the entire family needs this book! 4/5 stars: a good book, flew right through it。 Felt a bit over-simplified, but at least everything finally made sense :)

First, I need to point out that this is the conclusion to a trilogy and I have not read the first two books。 Even so, Haddix's references to prior events caught me up in no time, and I was reading as fast as I could by the second chapter。 It's that engrossing。 I knew right off that T will want to read this series! The premise of Greystone Secrets is that of duplicate worlds – one (ours) is basically good and one is basically bad。 Our protagonists originate in the bad world, but live in the good w First, I need to point out that this is the conclusion to a trilogy and I have not read the first two books。 Even so, Haddix's references to prior events caught me up in no time, and I was reading as fast as I could by the second chapter。 It's that engrossing。 I knew right off that T will want to read this series! The premise of Greystone Secrets is that of duplicate worlds – one (ours) is basically good and one is basically bad。 Our protagonists originate in the bad world, but live in the good world。 These heroes are three siblings, Chess, Emma, and Finn。 In The Messengers, they are being chased by people from the bad world as they try to figure out how to overthrow a corrupt government and thwart its use of mind control。 They team up with friends old and new from both worlds to dismantle the mesmerizing TVs and convey the truth to citizens in the bad world。 They do not have a smooth road, and the questions readers ask are echoed by the children themselves。 Haddix has thoroughly developed the alternate reality and the characters – fans will recognize her style and talent。 So captivating is her writing that I suffered from OMC* late into the night。 I won't include spoilers, but I will say that fans of dystopia, mystery, and child-heroes will not be disappointed。 I wish I had begun the series from book one, and I will look forward to doing so with T in the future。Part of what has drawn me to Haddix's writing over the years is her incisive critique of the role of government and technology。 Haddix's works prompt readers to examine their own situations and question where lines are drawn。 At what point have we allowed government, police, or big business too much power? When does a particular piece of technology go from being a beneficial tool to a dangerous weapon? The answers are not clear, nor should they be。 Rather, Haddix prompts readers to judge for themselves and weigh the shades of grey in Greystone Secrets and other books alike。*One More Chapter Syndrome: the condition where a reader decides to read one more chapter before going to to bed, only to repeat the decision at the end of every chapter readNote: Per FTC guidelines, I hereby disclose partnership with The Children's Book Review and HarperCollins Publishers。 。。。more

Greystone Secrets is an imaginative middle grade series。 The Messengers concludes the series with loads of action, tension, and excitement for the Greystone kids and their friends and families。 An enjoyable read appropriate for most readers 10+ (or could be enjoyed as a family read aloud for ages 8+)!

I have read and enjoyed quite a few of Margaret Peterson Haddix’s books。 The Messengers is the third book in her Greystone Secrets series。 I have not read the first two books, which would have helped me better understand the plot。 However, it did not stop me from enjoying The Messengers and I was able to figure out the plot。 For pre-teen and teen readers I would recommend reading the books in order。 In this series, Haddix has successfully created an alternate universe where the residents of one I have read and enjoyed quite a few of Margaret Peterson Haddix’s books。 The Messengers is the third book in her Greystone Secrets series。 I have not read the first two books, which would have helped me better understand the plot。 However, it did not stop me from enjoying The Messengers and I was able to figure out the plot。 For pre-teen and teen readers I would recommend reading the books in order。 In this series, Haddix has successfully created an alternate universe where the residents of one world have doubles in the other world。 There are ways to pass between the two worlds。 Some doubles meet and become friends and work together to fight the evil。 The kids realize that the most important thing is love - that is what helps them fight the evil that has made one of the worlds seem bad。 Haddix is a very creative author and pre-teens and teens love her books。 I’m sure The Messengers will be loved by that age group as well。 Haddix’s books have made me think about how the government can become corrupt。 The plot takes place in a fictional fantasy world so there is no connection to any specific government, but the plot is enough to make you think。 The Messengers would make a great addition to a school library。 It is appropriate for older elementary and up。This review was prepared in partnership with The Children’s Book Review and HarperCollins Publishers。 This is my honest review。 。。。more
