Summary

Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other men。 But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam。 Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information, and the right to call themselves Hunters。

RESOLUTION
Gon and his teammates have been challenged by a group of criminals hired by the Hunter Association。 Gon wins with wits, and Kurapika's red-eyed rage assures a victory。 But Leorio is all out of luck, and loses precious time for his team。 It's up to Killua to save the day with a gruesome display of his assassin skills。 With time running out, it takes ingenuity and brute force to beat the clock and the test。

And the fourth exam finds the team stranded on an island for a battle royale。 Can Gon get the best of Hisoka, or will he be。。。 eliminated?

4 stars。I'll never get used to the abrupt endings, huh? Oh well。 This is one of my favorite parts of the hunter exam。 The stakes are so high and I always loved the parts where we saw Gon practicing on how he is gonna get Hisoka's badge。 It's so interesting reading this and remembering a lot of the beginning that I had forgotten。 It almost makes me want to rewatch the anime。 4 stars。I'll never get used to the abrupt endings, huh? Though I love this series, this book felt a little slow and out of pase with the others FA in the series。 I would recommend it as a HxH fan, but if you aren’t collecting and just looking for something to read, you are better off just getting this one at the library。

Meanwhile Killua is looking for something! Good volume and great focus on other battles and all meanwhile raising the challenges and enemies they face and good setup for Gon going against Hisoka and the art is seriously really good! In this volume of HunterxHunter, the examinees are reaching the end of the third phase and begin the fourth phase of the exam。 The pressure is on。 After the fourth phase of the exam, there is only one phase left。 Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio are still teamed together, but there may be some doubts between each other。 The phases of the exam are increasingly growing to be more challenging and only the most persistent and strongest examinees will go to the next phases。 The third phase required In this volume of HunterxHunter, the examinees are reaching the end of the third phase and begin the fourth phase of the exam。 The pressure is on。 After the fourth phase of the exam, there is only one phase left。 Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio are still teamed together, but there may be some doubts between each other。 The phases of the exam are increasingly growing to be more challenging and only the most persistent and strongest examinees will go to the next phases。 The third phase required the examinees to reach the bottom of a tower with a limited time。 The fourth phase now requires them to hunt each other。 Everyone is wary of each other, but they begin to form teams with people who aren't hunting them。Such a good series so far。 I really like the concept and the intensity of the challenges makes it all the better。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

4 of 5 stars-----The majority game inside the tower was what really made me take HxH seriously。 I mean, it was fun from the beginning but seeing the majority game made me realized that there was really a potential to this story。 The different ways our main characters fight their battles against the prisoners were so entertaining and unexpected。 Tonpa's fight was really not a fight at all since he surrendered even before his opponent landed an attack。 The fight only took literally a second。 I 4 of 5 stars-----The majority game inside the tower was what really made me take HxH seriously。 I mean, it was fun from the beginning but seeing the majority game made me realized that there was really a potential to this story。 The different ways our main characters fight their battles against the prisoners were so entertaining and unexpected。 Tonpa's fight was really not a fight at all since he surrendered even before his opponent landed an attack。 The fight only took literally a second。 It was annoyingly hilarious until Killua explained that it was for the better to save time。 He actually has a point because Tonpa obviously didn't stood a chance against his opponent with the fight to the death。Gon's candle fight was simple yet amusing。 It was already established how simple-minded he was, a little too naive。 Gon could only win if he can make the candle's fire lasts。 When he was instructed to choose between a short candle and a long one, certainly a lot of people would doubt about the candles' real status。 Was it a trap? Were the candles normal or rigged? The group then let Gon make the decision of choosing the candle and it was ridiculous on how he made his choice。 He chose the long candle because it was longer and so can last longer than the short one。 He didn't even stop for a minute to think carefully。 You see how simple-minded he was? It was funny and frustrating at the same time。 But it was one of his charms, I can tell you。 But the thing was, he can also be witty when he was pushed in a critical situation。 As expected, his choice of candle was rigged and therefore the heat of the fire increased rapidly。 But he didn't let his opponent's deception discouraged him。 He still managed to backfire the situation to his opponent。 As his fire got stronger, though the candle would have melted in just minutes, it would also be difficult to kill it with a little breeze。 And so his cleverness appeared。 Oh I loved how adorable he was after winning! Then came Kurapika! It was so cool how calm he was despite having a 'beast' as an opponent。 His opponent tried to intimidate Kurapika with his appearance but really, he was just a big fraud! Little did he knew, it was a mistake for him to pose as a member of the Phantom Troupe, a group of bandits who killed Kurapika's whole clan, thinking it would scare him。 It was actually the end of him! Though Kurapika knew his opponent's lies, it was still enraging for him。 He made his opponent unconscious with just a few punches。 But because his fight is to death, unless one of them surrenders, it was still not his win。 And with that, he refused to fight and kill an unconscious man, though it became a waste of time since he decided to wait for his opponent to regain consciousness and they can't proceed to the next fight。 I loved how they bet if Kurapika's opponent was still alive, or if he's really unconscious or not。 It can determine Kurapika's win, but can also be a threat to their remaining time。 Though I loved that betting part where Leorio threatened to let the man fall to his death if he still insist on being unconscious, I liked Leorio's actual betting game the least。 It was a bit inconsiderate of him not to think about the game as a whole and let his opponent defeat him just like that。 I mean, it pissed me a bit but I can see how necessary it was to the flow of the story。 But among the fights, Killua's fight was my favorite。 Along with Tonpa, it was a quick fight, but damn! I actually don't know if I can consider it a fight at all since it was so quick and one-sided。 To think that an infamous murderer, an extremely large man, killed hundreds of people with his strong bare hands as a tool for murder, fighting against a twelve-year old kid! But just a quick swipe and bam! His heart was literally stolen from him。 It was so damn cool and unsettling at the same time。 I prefer the anime version where Killua returned the heart after the man died than the manga version where he squeezed it。 It was so shocking and dope it was one of my favorite Killua moments! That was where I decided that I loved Killua。 And then Gon's occasional wit appeared once more。 The last part where the group needed to choose between two doors where (1) all five of them can enter but it was a long and difficult way, where it can last atleast 45 hours (which was impossible since they only have less than an hour remaining) or (2) a short and easy way where it would only take 3 minutes, but only three people can enter。 Gon actually saved the group because of his observational skill, which I think his strongest point。 The first part of the hunting phase in the island also started。 It was the most thrilling part of the Hunter Exam in the anime for me。 Gon started to hunt for Hisoka's number badge and it wouldn't be easy for him, since Hisoka is not a very easy opponent。 Another round for Tonpa and Leorio's fight also took place in the island。 It was a very frustrating moment for Leorio and thanks to Kurapika, he managed to get his badge back from Tonpa's ally。 Like seriously, Leorio's the oldest among the main characters but he acted like he was not。 We also got a glimpse of the real face of Hisoka's ally。 It would only get exciting from here! 。。。more

Finished 1/3/20 This was pretty good but not as good as the others。 I liked how the suspense was built with mind games and ultimatums instead of just fights to the death that we know the main characters are going to win。 Also I LOVE Hisoka!! “A creepy, dangerous, imperturbable magician who has a lethal touch with a deck of playing cards” SICKKKK and his dialogue always ends with one of the suit icons and it’s SO。 COOL。 Gon and Killua are good together too, idky but I really like when the 12 year Finished 1/3/20 This was pretty good but not as good as the others。 I liked how the suspense was built with mind games and ultimatums instead of just fights to the death that we know the main characters are going to win。 Also I LOVE Hisoka!! “A creepy, dangerous, imperturbable magician who has a lethal touch with a deck of playing cards” SICKKKK and his dialogue always ends with one of the suit icons and it’s SO。 COOL。 Gon and Killua are good together too, idky but I really like when the 12 year old protagonist has another 12 year old friend and they do cool stuff together 。。。more

Chapter 18This is the time when Kurapika fight the Phantom Troupe pretender。 I find it funny how Kurapika assess his situation。 He is just so obedient that his enemy is shocked。 It’s just funny。Chapter 19This chapter is the time when Majitani is unconscious and they are waiting for him to wake up。 It’s just a lot of wasting time in waiting for him。 I would’ve just kicked him out of the ring, LOL… However, Kurapika is just too good and firm with his choice。It also shows Hisoka’s fight in the towe Chapter 18This is the time when Kurapika fight the Phantom Troupe pretender。 I find it funny how Kurapika assess his situation。 He is just so obedient that his enemy is shocked。 It’s just funny。Chapter 19This chapter is the time when Majitani is unconscious and they are waiting for him to wake up。 It’s just a lot of wasting time in waiting for him。 I would’ve just kicked him out of the ring, LOL… However, Kurapika is just too good and firm with his choice。It also shows Hisoka’s fight in the tower。 Which is surprising since it is not in the anime as what I remembered。Chapter 20This chapter is when they test Majitani to be conscious。 This is also the start of Leorio’s time in the platform。 This is just absurd because Leorio is willing to bet their remaining hours for these。 Especially the enemy is a female and he got to check out her body as the bet。 He is hopeless。 (face palm)Chapter 21This is Killua’s turn to fight。 I just love this on the anime because Killua is just frighteningly amazing。 Jones is a pretty scary person for normal people。 The old anime is pretty much the same with this when it comes to Killua’s actions。 They changed it in the new anime。The 50 hours finished in this same Chapter。 In the anime, they added different stuff that they can possible do in the room for those hours which is cute, too。Chapter 22The 50 hours is up and they are on their way to find the exit。 This is the chapter where they have to choose 3 people only to go through。 However, this chapter is different in this part。 Gon just directly find the way for all of them to go through the way。 It is otherwise in the anime。 I just love how Gon is so kind enough to never even consider selfishly going out on his own with two other people。 Instead, he find a way for all of them to go through。 I adore his personality。This is the end of shrewdness tower adventure。 They are off to their next destination which is Zebiru’s Island。 However, they need to do the lottery to choose the prey。 This is an exciting part。Chapter 23This chapter consists of the participants on their journey to Zebiru’s island。 Unfortunately, Gon has a really bad luck in his lottery。 It takes lots of courage and strategy to take it out from the owner。 This chapter also exposes the person who targets Gon。 I just applaud Gon’s senses because it is always in its peak and he can just notice them easily。Chapter 24This is the special training of Gon to take out Hisoka’s plate。 He tried different kind of approach as to how he can manage to take Hisoka’s plate and he finally found the answer he is looking for。 It is just amazing how Gon can analyze what things he needs to do or to avoid。Chapter 25This is the actual hunt, the time Gon is looking for Hisoka and waiting for the perfect moment to take the plate。 This is actually nerve wrecking because Hisoka is never an easy target! By the time he found Hisoka, he tried his best to calm himself and conceal his presence。This is also the chapter where Tompa deceived Leorio like he is as always a jerk。 LOL。 Though it is a good strategy, Leorio still got fooled。 Can’t help it but he finally found his teammate: Kurapika! Chapter 26This chapter is about Killua and Gon’s adventures。 This is seriously a tense chapter because though Gon wasn’t discovered yet, but it’s just almost! Number 31 whom they call Gitarakuru turns out to be extremely handsome! He is one of my favorite in this manga。 Though I can’t spill the tea of who he is yet。 。。。more

This volume contains the infamous transphobic bit between Leorio and a prisoner of Trick Tower。 Aside from that, this volume was really enjoyable。 Illumi is somewhat introduced。 The first signs of paralleling between Leorio and Kurapika are present。 And Gon’s hunt for Hisoka’s badge is underway!

It’s the middle of the third trial and the group is stuck in a D&D style dungeon, running out of time, trying to pass the 5-on-5 contest, and all with the stipulation that they have to vote on decisions with a ‘majority rules’ clause。 Interesting。I wasn’t too sure about this series at first, but it’s growing on me。 Must read more!
