Summary

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all。 With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea。 Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own。 To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human。 Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever。

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world。 Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling。 When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears。 She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

So as much as we all enjoy enemies to lovers, pirates, and sirens, this book wasn’t the best despite all of those tropes。 Don’t get me wrong, the book is fun and a page turner, but it all felt rushed。 This book would’ve done better as a series or just 100 pages longer。 The world had so much potential but we barely had any time with the characters。 The book especially felt rushed throughout all the different episodes (for lack of a better word) that lead to the final battle。 If you want to read s So as much as we all enjoy enemies to lovers, pirates, and sirens, this book wasn’t the best despite all of those tropes。 Don’t get me wrong, the book is fun and a page turner, but it all felt rushed。 This book would’ve done better as a series or just 100 pages longer。 The world had so much potential but we barely had any time with the characters。 The book especially felt rushed throughout all the different episodes (for lack of a better word) that lead to the final battle。 If you want to read something quick and easy, and maybe turn off your brain for a minute, this ones for you。 。。。more

“You are a little heartless today, aren't you?""Never," I say。 "There are seventeen under my bed。” 3。5 stars。I liked this one。 It included some of my favourite tropes and cliches, and the story was simple yet exciting。 If you want a fantastical enemies to lovers adventure story, this is for you。 The story follows Lira, a siren turned human, bargaining her way onto the notorious siren-hunter Elian's ship。 They slowly learn to trust one another as they journey across kingdoms in search of a power “You are a little heartless today, aren't you?""Never," I say。 "There are seventeen under my bed。” 3。5 stars。I liked this one。 It included some of my favourite tropes and cliches, and the story was simple yet exciting。 If you want a fantastical enemies to lovers adventure story, this is for you。 The story follows Lira, a siren turned human, bargaining her way onto the notorious siren-hunter Elian's ship。 They slowly learn to trust one another as they journey across kingdoms in search of a power that could end the war between sirens and humans。 All the while Lira must hide her true identity, or her newfound crew-mates might just kill her。 What I liked:Setting - This is an enthralling world that sucks you in from the first page--no, the first line。 It reminds me of a fairytale with its siren lore and magical-yet-not-magical 100 kingdoms。Story - An entertaining ride all the way through。 I held my breath through the entire book, wondering if Lira will be caught, if one person will betray another, if someone will confess, or if someone will die。 I couldn't wait to see how the story would unfold。Characters & Relationships - The characters are likeable and distinct from one another (apart from the fact that everyone is sarcastic)。 Elian is a little shit, but I grew to find him endearing。 Lira is ferocious and deadly and I adore her。 Everyone has a touch of that grey morality I'm always looking for in my protagonists。 “How strange that instead of taking his heart, I'm hoping he takes mine。” I'm partial to the found-family trope, so the dynamic between the crew members was a joy to read。 As for Lira and Elian: This is one of the few times enemies to lovers is done well。 The "enemies" part makes complete sense and makes you wonder how these two could ever be anything else。 Then you follow along the story, and the progression of their relationship is so slow and natural you barely notice it at first。 And by the end, you're fully rooting for them。 Insta love? Sorry, I don't know her。What I disliked:Writing - While there are some banger quotes and the dialogue is often witty, the writing was what let me down most of all。 This author spoon-feeds her readers information, as if we aren't intelligent enough to understand anything without her literally spelling it out。 Alexandra Christo is not subtle at all with how many times "Perhaps we are worlds apart, but we are alike in so many ways。" and "He and I are not so different。" and "We are the same, Elian and I。" is repeated。 I get it。 They have a lot of things in common。 Stop beating it over my head。 I also wish the villains didn't explain their plans to the heroes in explicit detail like a Disney villain, but that's a bit nitpicky。Overall, I'd recommend if your TBR is empty and you're looking for a fun adventure about pirates and sirens。 It's not particularly revolutionary, but it's a solid read and you're certain for a good time。 。。。more

Cute and magical with lovely dark undertones。A solid story and a rather interesting retelling of The Little Mermaid。 It being in double first person, I expected to see more of a character arc for both MCs, but it turned out to be more plot-focused; in the end, I wasn't very convinced in both of their developments。I would have liked to see a lot more of the world; the power struggles between all the kingdoms or the effect that sirens have on their society, or the sirens' authoratative society its Cute and magical with lovely dark undertones。A solid story and a rather interesting retelling of The Little Mermaid。 It being in double first person, I expected to see more of a character arc for both MCs, but it turned out to be more plot-focused; in the end, I wasn't very convinced in both of their developments。I would have liked to see a lot more of the world; the power struggles between all the kingdoms or the effect that sirens have on their society, or the sirens' authoratative society itself。 Alas, we only get the one book。 。。。more

An awesome dark fantasy Romance book。And its enemies to lovers? Bonus! The book is mostly taking place in the oceans or a specific ship, the journey and how the book progresses to the ending is worth a read。

Lyrical and beautiful as a standalone novel。 This novel is leagues ahead of its contemporaries in so many respects--imagery, world-building, sentence rhythm and a firm sense of characters。 Loved so many aspects of this book, but I wish there had been a tiny bit more oomf to the story in the latter half。 Might've been a result of the story's ending place being a bit too transparent by the time you get near its climax。3。5 stars。 Lyrical and beautiful as a standalone novel。 This novel is leagues ahead of its contemporaries in so many respects--imagery, world-building, sentence rhythm and a firm sense of characters。 Loved so many aspects of this book, but I wish there had been a tiny bit more oomf to the story in the latter half。 Might've been a result of the story's ending place being a bit too transparent by the time you get near its climax。3。5 stars。 。。。more
