Almond is a one of a kind book about friendship and overcoming tragedy。 It is written with the kind of emotional intelligence that is not easy to find， making the story and the characters captivating right from the start。The protagonist， Yunjae， has a condition that prevents him from feeling normal human emotions like fear， shame， and empathy。After witnessing an extremely traumatic event， Yunjae has to learn how to overcome loss and how to navigate his new life。 Along the way he makes two unlike Almond is a one of a kind book about friendship and overcoming tragedy。 It is written with the kind of emotional intelligence that is not easy to find， making the story and the characters captivating right from the start。The protagonist， Yunjae， has a condition that prevents him from feeling normal human emotions like fear， shame， and empathy。After witnessing an extremely traumatic event， Yunjae has to learn how to overcome loss and how to navigate his new life。 Along the way he makes two unlikely friends， and we see changes begin to take place within him as a result。 This is a really lovely book with extremely well written and likeable characters， with even the most unpleasant characters showing us redeeming qualities and causing us to feel sympathy and warmness towards them。 I really enjoyed this book （so much so that I finished it one sitting） and would absolutely recommend it to fans of Korean culture and literature。 My only reason for not giving the book 5 stars is that the fast pacedness of the book meant that I was not able to dwell on or enjoy some of the moments for as long as I would have liked， in particular the ending was quite rushed and the story was wrapped up pretty quickly。 This is likely just a personal preference， however， and may be due to the fact I sped through the whole book in 3 straight hours。 Still， it didn't quite feel like a 5 star read for me。 I still loved it though！Thank you to my good friend Rebekah Haynes for the recommendation/book loan <3 。。。more

Raw notes:- very quick read！ - the concept of this was promising but it didn’t meet my expectations- i wonder how this book could’ve been delivered if it was written from a third person’s pov; i would’ve loved to see more from the other characters

I added to my “to read list” after watching Namjoon and Yoongi reading it and also the other boys taking a peak at the book。 I had read the summary of the book and I knew I would liked it。 It was a heartwarming book and I cried towards the end but then was happy。 Though I had picked another book with triggering my loss。 But definitely worth a read！

Es impresionante。 Una historia que te mantiene pegado y enganchado al libro desde la primera página a la última。 Al mismo tiempo que el protagonista se ha ido desarrollando， yo me he ido desarrollando también con el como lectora， y no puedo dejar de agradecer a la escritora por haber hecho magia de esta forma con su obra。 Pocos libros me han hecho emocionarme de esta forma。Recomiendo que lo lean， merece la pena。

A ver lo primero que diré me gusto el libro si， aunque siendo que me faltaron paginas ya que el final es muy abierto。 Me gusto el desarrollo de Yunjeo bastante real y al mismo tiempo llegue a sentí empatía ya que por en general soy una persona algo fría。 también el hecho que me enseño un trastorno que había escuchado pero que no sabia su naturaleza。 Hablando creo que la historia tiene 3 partes importante en la vida de nuestro protagonista para que llegue al final que conocemos y esas son la trag A ver lo primero que diré me gusto el libro si， aunque siendo que me faltaron paginas ya que el final es muy abierto。 Me gusto el desarrollo de Yunjeo bastante real y al mismo tiempo llegue a sentí empatía ya que por en general soy una persona algo fría。 también el hecho que me enseño un trastorno que había escuchado pero que no sabia su naturaleza。 Hablando creo que la historia tiene 3 partes importante en la vida de nuestro protagonista para que llegue al final que conocemos y esas son la tragedia de sus madre y abuela， el conocer a Gon y por ultimo lo que hiso por este。 Gon como personaje me gusto ya que todas sus acciones son realmente justificada， tenemos a un niño que creció sin amor， que se siente solo y que no es aceptado por su comportamiento， que la misma sociedad que lo margina hiso que llegara a ser， me hubiera gustado conocer mas de el y ver como termina su historia。 Dora nuestro otro personaje que hace que Yun empiece a cambiar creo que fue metido nada mas para que este entendiera lo que es el amor romántico， ya que como personaje le falto mas profundidad la conocemos ya muy avanzada la historia y no llegue a conectar con ella。 También siento que los adultos son una parte importante en esta historia （cosa rara ya poco historia para adolescente tiene a los adultos como parte importante ） la familia de Yun es la parte familiar mas armoniosa que conocemos y aunque claramente en algunas cosas se equivocaron， lo hacían para un bien para Yun。 el doctor shum fue el adulto racional de la historia ya que entendía a nuestro protagonista y dejaba que el solo empezara a conocer sus emociones por el solo。 Y por ultimo el adulto egoísta tenemos a el padre de Gon， el cual por que este no era lo que esperaba se lavo las manos， aunque lo bueno es que al final cambia。 Decía que el final no me gusto， por que es muy abierto hay ciertas cosas que no， nos explica， la mama como fue que paso eso， Gon y su padre como termino la relaciono entre Yun y Gon que paso， por que aceptemos no creo que nada mas se arreglo por arte de magia， lo que paso unas paginas antes era fuerte por lo que no creo que Gon haya terminado bien y aceptado como si nada， era el primer amigo que hiso que no se juzgaban entre si， se comprendían de una extraña forma。 me falto eso ver una interacción entre ellos para entender como termino las cosas 。。。more

Almendra tiene sus momentos， leí la mitad en alrededor de 5 días（creo） y la otra mitad en 1。 A veces no podía parar de leer y otras no sentía mucha motivación a seguir， no me generaba esa desesperación por saber el desenlace， por eso me tomé una pausa para retomarlo después de que tuve leído el primer cuarto。 Claramente al final le agarre el gusto y puedo decir que fue de mi agrado。 En algunos momentos sentí que la narración hizo agua， más que nada en el final， hubo un par de cosas que pasaron m Almendra tiene sus momentos， leí la mitad en alrededor de 5 días（creo） y la otra mitad en 1。 A veces no podía parar de leer y otras no sentía mucha motivación a seguir， no me generaba esa desesperación por saber el desenlace， por eso me tomé una pausa para retomarlo después de que tuve leído el primer cuarto。 Claramente al final le agarre el gusto y puedo decir que fue de mi agrado。 En algunos momentos sentí que la narración hizo agua， más que nada en el final， hubo un par de cosas que pasaron muy rápido， y fueron irreales e inorgánicas。 De todas manera me gustó muchísimo y siento que siempre voy a tener un espacio especial en mi corazón para Yunjae， Gon y su amistad， con la cual hicieron enternecer mi corazón como hace tiempo no sentía。 Y por último y no menos importante a Min Yoongi y Kim Namjoon les agradezco el haberlo compartido， sé que nunca hubiera cruzado mi camino con este libro de otra manera。 。。。more
