Summary

Since launching Ostro online in 2014, Julia Busuttil Nishimura has gained a strong and loyal following for her generous, uncomplicated, seasonal food。 As an Australian of Maltese descent and a fluent Italian speaker, who is married to a Japanese man, Julia and her food represent everything that is good about modern Australian eating。 She deftly brings together a broad range of cuisines and culinary influences using the very best produce on offer。 This truly is good food, made by hand。

Julia guides us through the uniquely satisfying experience of making pasta or pizza dough from scratch, clearly explaining the processes and demystifying the reasons behind them。 She also shares plenty of simple, flavourful salads and one-tray bakes for days when time is scarce。 Baking and desserts, too, needn't be overly complicated - as Julia shows us, some of the best go-to recipes are the ones passed down the generations。 But we also need the odd show-stopper on standby for special occasions!

Boooooring! Why would they bother publishing this? No interesting recipes or stories。 Just so banal! Why?!

All recipes full with handy tips, leaving the home cook with enough freedom to change them up。 I know I always have a solid recipe in this cookbook! Can't wait for the new book to be released soon! This is a beautifully made cookbook that has a feeling that it’s from another time in history but in the very best way。 It’s warm & welcoming, not at all intimidating, filled with recipes you can see yourself making in your own kitchen。

I love this book so much!! Julia’s style of cooking & story sharing fits in with my simple way of cooking - it’s like she’s welcomed us into her kitchen and we’re learning how to cook while chatting and nibbling。 The photography and styling is simple beautiful - I love how natural and everyday it is。 Perfect for new cooks learning the basics as well as for experienced cooks。 My favourite cook book ever !

A beautifully photographed, warm cookbook。 We made the mushroom/barley pie and it was an easy-to-follow recipe, perfect for a Sunday night (with leftovers for lunch on Monday + beyond!) Looking forward to making one of the ice cream recipes next x
