When I picked up the first volume, I remember reading something in a blurb praising it for tackling with sensibility a very difficult topic。 Which topic was that? I didn’t know。 Okay, I guess I’ll find out。 Then I started reading it, and we had this lonely boy with what seemed to be a broken family, and the protagonist wanted to help him。 Was he being mistreated or neglected? I didn’t know。 Okay, I guess I’ll find out。 Then I started reading it, and we had this lonely boy with what seemed to be a broken family, and the protagonist wanted to help him。 Was he being mistreated or neglected? Is that the difficult topic? But I keep reading, and volume after volume the relationship between this boy and the adult woman he befriended keeps changing。 And I start wondering “wait, what is this vibe I’m getting? Is this a romance? I’m not sure。”So here we are at volume 7, this is definitely a romance between a boy and a woman double his age, but hold your horses because this is important: IT IS SUPERBLY DONE。 It’s so subtle and not creepy at all。 The progression in their relationship is natural。 There isn’t anything even remotely sexual between them (he’s 15 now)。 Or even romantic I would say, at the moment it’s friendly and honest and the future romance you can glimpse is but a tender bud。That blurb was right, this is a difficult topic。 And the author deserves an applause for the sensibility with which he/she treated it (I don’t know the gender of the author)。 I cannot wait to see where life will take them。 I’m rooting for them。It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if the general idea of such a relationship squeaks you out give it at least one chance。 Maybe it will surprise you。 。。。more

I continue to ADORE this series。 The theme of childishness existing within adults and carrying our。。。 experiences and traumas around with us that we had as we were children and not growing out of that was very explicitly drawn in this volume, but it was very powerful。 Ahhhh, this series is just SO GOOD。

Overall a sweet little ending for one of my favorite series。 I did feel a little sad that the atmosphere was completely different than that in volume one, but this is to be completely expected because the story grew with the characters。 I love the way I really got to see the characters develop and change throughout these seven volumes, even if some readers might want more resolution。
