This book is the epitome of helpful when it comes to identifying a sensory difference and suggesting things that may help。 I wish the sensory differences were organized a little more clearly, but I suppose that perhaps there was too much overlap to come up with an organizational system。 This is a must-have for any parent who has a child struggling with sensory differences。

If you have a child with sensory issues, this is a great resource。 It's more of a manual than a book in that you can find your child's specific issue (ie: can't sit still) and it lists 5-15 ideas on how to help them。 Great resource! Than you for this。 My son was recently diagnosed with sensory issues and i'm left with Huh?? what's this? so i'm given a book with a lot of terminology that just leaves me more confused。 This book takes a simple approach to listing something a child does, what could be the cause of it and how best to help the child。 It was very simple to read, I took notes on the ones that pertained to my kids and plan to reference it if new things pop up。 Than you for this。 My son was recently diagnosed with sensory issues and i'm left with Huh?? what's this? so i'm given a book with a lot of terminology that just leaves me more confused。 This book takes a simple approach to listing something a child does, what could be the cause of it and how best to help the child。 It was very simple to read, I took notes on the ones that pertained to my kids and plan to reference it if new things pop up。 。。。more

One of the best Practical Guides for all those that work with sensory children and I would say even adults。 A must own for any parents library because it will help you with the development of your own child and in situations with other children。 Great for teachers to help them maximize the students potential in the learning process。

A must have for parents who have a child with sensory needs。 (Autism, ADHD, SPD, etc。) My first son was diagnosed four years ago with SPD。 I've read most the material on it。 This book was very helpful!! It has 210 of the most common sensory issues and practical tips and advice for each one。 After taking 10 pages of notes I decided to just buy it!! This is my sensory bible when it comes to SPD。 It gives short, concise description of a sensory signal (e。g。 does not like hair brushed)。 The author then goes on to give ideas that should help you deal with that specific signal and how to respond accordingly。 She also gives a short description about the reason the child may display the specific signal (part of the body that is affected。。。vestibular, proprioceptive systems)。 I love this book and recommend it to everyone I know (teachers, parents, This is my sensory bible when it comes to SPD。 It gives short, concise description of a sensory signal (e。g。 does not like hair brushed)。 The author then goes on to give ideas that should help you deal with that specific signal and how to respond accordingly。 She also gives a short description about the reason the child may display the specific signal (part of the body that is affected。。。vestibular, proprioceptive systems)。 I love this book and recommend it to everyone I know (teachers, parents, family members, Occupational therapists, and other professionals) that don't understand the reason for many of our children's sensory behaviors。 。。。more

MY OH MY! Angie has done it again! She's blown me away with another great book。 When I first received Sensory Signals in the mail I skimmed through it & then went about making dinner。 My eldest daughter, 14 years old, picked it up and began turning to random pages。 As she would come to a page she would read the Sensory Signal at the top of the page。 Without missing a beat my sensory kiddo, 7 years old, would say things like, "Hey, I do that!", "I've never done that。", or "Why do I do that?" My oldest would then read her the explanations and tell her what to do。 My sensory kiddo would sit and ponder them before commenting or telling her to read another。Several month later now & my sensory kiddo won't go out the door with it。 She tells everyone that it is our Sensory Bible。 I have the PDF version I bought from Smashwords。com so I could send it to my Kindle & Kindle app on my phone。 I keep the actual book itself in my daughter's sensory bag。 This way if she heads out with me & then ends up going with my Mom there is always a copy right there。I love how Angie has broken each sensory signal down, making it easier to read and understand。 At the top is a larger type you have the Sensory Signal。 Then you have the Sensory Category (oral, proprioception, self-regulation, vestibular, etc。)。 Next comes the explanation and possible questions (Could there be something that is not sensory related going on?)。 Last comes the ever wonderful - Ideas to Help! I love that your not stuck reading a paragraph to figure out what is causing the sensory signal and what to do to help your kiddo。 With Angie outlining each page like bullet points, it make a great easy & fast reference。Thanks again Angie! 。。。more

I purchased this book to help me learn how to help my son, and I have really appreciated all the concrete advice in it。 I'm reading the Kindle edition, which is laid out as well as the paperback。 I LOVE how she identifies what behavior you see, what it means (or what can lead to that behavior), and what you can do to help。 And the situations and advice are *real*。 You don't need a degree in rocket science to understand what's going on and provide sensory activities for your kiddos; many of the a I purchased this book to help me learn how to help my son, and I have really appreciated all the concrete advice in it。 I'm reading the Kindle edition, which is laid out as well as the paperback。 I LOVE how she identifies what behavior you see, what it means (or what can lead to that behavior), and what you can do to help。 And the situations and advice are *real*。 You don't need a degree in rocket science to understand what's going on and provide sensory activities for your kiddos; many of the activities she suggests are do-able with simple, inexpensive/free items around the house - another thing that makes this book so useful! (All the advice in the world is useless if it's unapproachable, either intellectually or financially!) I've had so many "aha!" moments while reading, and I've seen how they help my son - now it's up to me to implement more of these incredibly helpful ideas!(Additional note: I consider this book so valuable that I took the time to figure out how to add it to the GoodReads inventory。。。 that says a lot! ;) ) 。。。more
