Summary

Anne Shirley is an eleven-year-old orphan who has hung on determinedly to an optimistic spirit and a wildly creative imagination through her early deprivations。 She erupts into the lives of aging brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a girl instead of the boy they had sent for。 Thus begins a story of transformation for all three; indeed the whole rural community of Avonlea comes under Anne's influence in some way。 We see her grow from a girl to a young woman of sixteen, making her mistakes, and not always learning from them。 Intelligent, hot-headed as her own red hair, unwilling to take a moral truth as read until she works it out for herself, she must also face grief and loss and learn the true meaning of love。 Part Tom Sawyer, part Jane Eyre, by the end of Anne of Green Gables, Anne has become the heroine of her own story。

She’s such a drama queen, I love her! I think it’s very noble to have the courage to be vulnerable at that age! 👏🏾This has been in my TBR for far too long! I’m so glad I subscribed to audible! Despite Rachel McAdam’s poor narration, I enjoyed this very much! 💗

I absolutely love this book。 Anne of Green Gables is such a wonderful story。 Anne is a wonderful character who is wise beyond her years, with a knack for finding trouble, and who has known hardship at such a young age。 Despite the trouble she seems to find she ends up enchanting everyone around her。 I can't wait to read the next installment of this book series! Dear beautiful, precious Anne 💖 this has been the single most stunning book I've ever read - I cannot decide if it is Pride and Prejudice or Anne of Green Gables that is closer to my heart。 Such a heartwarming, important story。 Everyone should read this book and cherish it forever💐🍁🌻🌼🏵️ Dear beautiful, precious Anne 💖 this has been the single most stunning book I've ever read - I cannot decide if it is Pride and Prejudice or Anne of Green Gables that is closer to my heart。 Such a heartwarming, important story。 Everyone should read this book and cherish it forever💐🍁🌻🌼🏵️ 。。。more

I really liked the last few chapters and the beginning is charming but there are points where I'm just tired of Anne as a character when she's younger。 I really liked the last few chapters and the beginning is charming but there are points where I'm just tired of Anne as a character when she's younger。 。。。more

Considered a 5-star classic, this book tells the story of an imaginative orphan who becomes adopted by unmarried siblings Marilla and Matthew on PEI, Canada。 I found the story enjoyable, as it tells the tale of a girl who matures from living in her imagination to learning to live in the real world with its varied people and challenges。 She causes change in those around her, particularly Marilla and Matthew。 I can't rate this book any higher due to the writing style, which of course reflects the Considered a 5-star classic, this book tells the story of an imaginative orphan who becomes adopted by unmarried siblings Marilla and Matthew on PEI, Canada。 I found the story enjoyable, as it tells the tale of a girl who matures from living in her imagination to learning to live in the real world with its varied people and challenges。 She causes change in those around her, particularly Marilla and Matthew。 I can't rate this book any higher due to the writing style, which of course reflects the turn-of-the-20th-century era in which LM Montgomery wrote it。 The opening sentence has been used in English classes as the classic example of a run-on sentence。 She uses the phrase "scope for imagination" over and over ad nauseam, 12 times in all。 She repeatedly uses the same term "scholars" to describe elementary students, never using a synonym such as "students" or "pupils。" And her lengthy, florid descriptions of the beautiful area around Green Gables eventually become skimmable for their repetition and excessive length。 I wish I had read this when I was 10 or 12, as I would have likely enjoyed the story more and not dwelt on the shortcomings of narration and style。 。。。more

This was a gorgeous book in every aspect: the characters were vibrant, lovable and anything but boring; the description was rich and immersive; the story was slow, yet unravelled into a beautiful tapestry; and the morals exposed some of the simple, yet vital aspects of life。 Anne as a character is larger than life; simply overflowing with imagination and enthusiasm。 The mixture of Montgomery's description, plot and characterisation produced a story that is like childlike happiness trapped in amb This was a gorgeous book in every aspect: the characters were vibrant, lovable and anything but boring; the description was rich and immersive; the story was slow, yet unravelled into a beautiful tapestry; and the morals exposed some of the simple, yet vital aspects of life。 Anne as a character is larger than life; simply overflowing with imagination and enthusiasm。 The mixture of Montgomery's description, plot and characterisation produced a story that is like childlike happiness trapped in amber。 。。。more

Such a wonderful story about a girl who just enjoys life。 Every bit of it。 She helps people grow and makes Avonlea an exceptional home! Highly recommend this one!

Will always be among the best childhood books I have ever read that I can never become tired rereading it。 Anne Shirley is that heroine who will teach us the highs and lows of growing up, the value of family, the wonders of imagination, the hope in life and the fruit of hard work。 Anne is such a character and a friend young readers (and those young-at-heart) must meet at least once in their lifetime

The happiest feelings and good emotions one needs for a spring day。 It’s no wonder Anne is loved by so many people, she was so relatable I wanted to be her friend and hang out with her at Green Gables。 I’ll probably read this book every year。 Can’t believe I haven’t done so yet。

This book was a joy to read because it frees up your imagination and takes you away from everyday life for a moment。 I loved going on adventures with Anne while reading。

I read this once before when I was quite young and I never really understood afterwards why my mother was so keen for me to read Anne of green gables。 I decided to read it again now that I actually choose to read classics and enjoy them and let's just say that I finally understand now what my mum was saying。A children's classic but it was still a timeless classic nonetheless。 Really sweet story and a really sad and emotional ending。 Timeless。 I read this once before when I was quite young and I never really understood afterwards why my mother was so keen for me to read Anne of green gables。 I decided to read it again now that I actually choose to read classics and enjoy them and let's just say that I finally understand now what my mum was saying。A children's classic but it was still a timeless classic nonetheless。 Really sweet story and a really sad and emotional ending。 Timeless。 。。。more
