Summary

Little Women is one of the best-loved children's stories of all time, based on the author's own youthful experiences。 It describes the family of the four March sisters living in a small New England community。 Meg, the eldest, is pretty and wishes to be a lady; Jo, at fifteen is ungainly and unconventional with an ambition to be an author; Beth is a delicate child of thirteen with a taste for music and Amy is a blonde beauty of twelve。 The story of their domestic adventures, their attempts to increase the family income, their friendship with the neighbouring Laurence family, and their later love affairs remains as fresh and beguiling as ever。

I am not entirely certain why I wanted to read this other than it is something I was supposed to have read years ago。 All in all, it is quite the classic, smooth going once I got past the opening chapters and the overwhelming "cuteness" of all things March。 I am not entirely certain why I wanted to read this other than it is something I was supposed to have read years ago。 All in all, it is quite the classic, smooth going once I got past the opening chapters and the overwhelming "cuteness" of all things March。 。。。more

I now understand why it's a classic。 So well-written。 Though Jo's the obvious lead in the story, everyone stands out。 The dialogue is great, and Alcott did a superb job of teaching morals through narrative, though much is left for the reader to apply。 It was both in and ahead of its time, especially as the role of women in the home, family, work, and the world, generally speaking, was beginning to change。 Women should not confined to one possibility or one lot in life。 There are a multitude of w I now understand why it's a classic。 So well-written。 Though Jo's the obvious lead in the story, everyone stands out。 The dialogue is great, and Alcott did a superb job of teaching morals through narrative, though much is left for the reader to apply。 It was both in and ahead of its time, especially as the role of women in the home, family, work, and the world, generally speaking, was beginning to change。 Women should not confined to one possibility or one lot in life。 There are a multitude of ways for them to fulfill life's purpose and myriad callings they might serve in, wives or not。。。 mothers or not。Little Women is one of the best examples of realist literature (or literary realism) I've ever read, as nearly every character is believable, both in what they say and do (and how they respond to what is said and done)。 There is much to learn and apply from this one as I raise our daughter (and possibly some more)。 I hope the Lord gives me many "little women" to care for, raise, and send out into the world。 。。。more

Little women is one of the best classics I've ever read。 I can't believe that this book is based on the life of Louisa May Alcott。 It's not like her biography or something。 It's just that this book was written based on her own feelings。 'Little women' is one of the most celebrated classics of all time。 The book has five main characters。 The March Sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, and their neighbour - Theodore Lawrence, also called Laurie。 The plot revolves around the four girls, and how they a Little women is one of the best classics I've ever read。 I can't believe that this book is based on the life of Louisa May Alcott。 It's not like her biography or something。 It's just that this book was written based on her own feelings。 'Little women' is one of the most celebrated classics of all time。 The book has five main characters。 The March Sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, and their neighbour - Theodore Lawrence, also called Laurie。 The plot revolves around the four girls, and how they are growing up in the modern world。 The book is divided into two parts。 The First Part gives us the introduction to the sisters, their problems, and their kind love for each other。 Laurie, their neighbour, also takes an important role in the lives of the girls。 The world is hard on ambitious girls This novel isn't like the novels of today's times。 Rather than the story, the plot tells us more about the love of the sisters over each other even when they are separated。 It was an interesting read that entertained me a lot, but also giving some emotions on the way。 Sometimes, the chapters were boring, or sometimes they were irrelevant, and because of that, I think the book was a bit stretched for no reason。 Apart from that, however, it did have a great ending。I recommend this book to all people。 It was a kind and touching story。 And I think there are just plenty of reasons why this classic is being read in this generation。 Louisa May Alcott surely didn't have a great childhood but provided us with a story she wished she had。 。。。more

I admit I read the book only after movie (two versions), and I fantasized Teddy with both Christian Bale and Timotee Chalamet XDI give full points on the writing style。 The prose is very easy readable even for beginners, but doesn't mean simple words are boring because the writer described each characters and daily events in simple, light-hearted way, no complicated drama, no complex characters, no revenge, no action, just very simple women whom we can find among ourselves, which is why it's so I admit I read the book only after movie (two versions), and I fantasized Teddy with both Christian Bale and Timotee Chalamet XDI give full points on the writing style。 The prose is very easy readable even for beginners, but doesn't mean simple words are boring because the writer described each characters and daily events in simple, light-hearted way, no complicated drama, no complex characters, no revenge, no action, just very simple women whom we can find among ourselves, which is why it's so relatable to us。 ဤhe storyline, still it's simple but relatable, reflective with our lives。 That kind of story can be seen either on screen as series or as movie nowadays, that we usually label as slice-of-life。 But to consider the year it came out, it might be rare or new, plus the early feminism movement, like she set the trend。 It's so heartwarming and I sometimes filled with happy tears while reading, especially when Jo promised Amy to never hurt again, though I don't have sisters irl。 。。。more

。。。more

As much as I loved the first half of this book, the second half lost a lot of steam。 There were a lot of times that were just dragging on。 I would guess that a really good abridged copy would be much better and solve a lot of the length related issues I had。 I really enjoy the characters。 Especially Jo, of course。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A timeless novel indeed。It has a bittersweet ending bcs Beth wasn’t there with them to experience the happy moment with her family but her destiny made sense。As for Meg’s marriage, I thought it was too abrupt —just bcs Aunt March forbade her to marry John she immediately decided to marry him even though she wasn’t sure how she felt about him。I had foreseen Jo’s marriage she was too fond of the professor the moment she met him, tho I’m not very fond of their age difference but that’s just me。Amy, A timeless novel indeed。It has a bittersweet ending bcs Beth wasn’t there with them to experience the happy moment with her family but her destiny made sense。As for Meg’s marriage, I thought it was too abrupt —just bcs Aunt March forbade her to marry John she immediately decided to marry him even though she wasn’t sure how she felt about him。I had foreseen Jo’s marriage she was too fond of the professor the moment she met him, tho I’m not very fond of their age difference but that’s just me。Amy, well, I still don’t know how I feel about her and Laurie。 。。。more
