Summary

Every enchantment has a price。

With a flick of her paintbrush, Isobel creates stunning portraits for a dangerous set of clients: the fair folk。 These immortal creatures cannot bake bread or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust。 They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and they trade valuable enchantments for Isobel’s paintings。 But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—Isobel makes a deadly mistake。 She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes, a weakness that could cost him his throne, and even his life。

Furious, Rook spirits Isobel away to his kingdom to stand trial for her crime。 But something is seriously amiss in his world, and they are attacked from every side。 With Isobel and Rook depending upon each other for survival, their alliance blossoms into trust, perhaps even love 。 。 。 a forbidden emotion that would violate the fair folks’ ruthless laws, rendering both their lives forfeit。 What force could Isobel's paintings conjure that is powerful enough to defy the ancient malice of the fairy courts?

Isobel and Rook journey along a knife-edge in a lush world where beauty masks corruption and the cost of survival might be more frightening than death itself。

The first 25% of the book, there’s barely any dialogue between them but because they look yearningly into each other’s eyes in longing silence, I’m supposed to believe there’s a connection there? nope- when the different season courts arrived, I couldn’t take it。 Winter court? Autumn court? I couldn’t care less about their history or rivalry。- but I think the biggest reason for my dnf is simply that I didn’t like/care about the main characters。 I couldn’t connect to Isobel‘a character enough to care about her story。 I also didn’t get her appeal to Rook。 His arrogance and condensation towards Isobel and her ‘human experience’ was distasteful。 Rook just seemed dull。 Like he wanted to convict Isobel for painting human sorrow in his eyes。 He may have good reason to be ashamed of his sorrow or he may not know it。 I think the author was trying to make him mysterious and complex, but that wasn’t conveyed well to me。 。。。more

I love this book so much and if anyone has any recommendations on a book similar to this then please let me know! Rook is so funny when it comes to not understanding the norm for humans, such as not watching someone pee。

This book is a charming, fluffy book about fairy-tale creatures, magic, and love。 Most of the plot takes place on a journey as the characters traipse through the woods。 It's not my favorite way to tell a story--especially with only two characters。 If you like stories about fairies and monsters, give it a shot。 This book is a charming, fluffy book about fairy-tale creatures, magic, and love。 Most of the plot takes place on a journey as the characters traipse through the woods。 It's not my favorite way to tell a story--especially with only two characters。 If you like stories about fairies and monsters, give it a shot。 。。。more

Quick and easy read。 Not much in terms of character development, but a good plot, interesting world, and lovely writing。 This book would've gotten three stars, but i absolutely love how the author writes things。 Here's a few non-spoiler quotes that I liked:"I was alive in a way i had never been before, in a world that no longer felt stale, but instead crackled with breathless promise"(This next one is about Autumn trees): "they were simply flawed, and seemed to cie cautiously for my attention, l Quick and easy read。 Not much in terms of character development, but a good plot, interesting world, and lovely writing。 This book would've gotten three stars, but i absolutely love how the author writes things。 Here's a few non-spoiler quotes that I liked:"I was alive in a way i had never been before, in a world that no longer felt stale, but instead crackled with breathless promise"(This next one is about Autumn trees): "they were simply flawed, and seemed to cie cautiously for my attention, lonely and wary of rejection" 。。。more

I loved this book。 It has unique world and character building。 Although I did feel as if some of the plot points that were mentioned kind of dropped off。 And I wish there was more romance between the main characters。 But overall, the story was interesting and kept me reading。 I really hope that this won’t be just a stand alone book, I feel like it needs to be continued。

It was fine。

This was a really nice easy-reading fantasy。 I really loved the characters and world-building, and the unique take on faeries。 My only gripe is that I wish it had been longer! It did feel quite rushed, especially towards the ending。

DNFIt wasn't bad but I didn't feel any connection to the characters or the world。 As I read, things were happening but it felt like nothing was happening at the same time?? It was nice to read a story where fairies aren't glorified and have flaws - this was such an refreshing concept but the ending was very anti-climatic。 It was nice to read a story where fairies aren't glorified and have flaws - this was such an refreshing concept but the ending was very anti-climatic。 。。。more

I was so torn between giving this 3。5 stars or the full 4。 Honestly it was a very pleasant, quick read that was adorably fluffy and lovely。 I absolutely adored the characters and loved the pacing overall, but at some points I was left wanting a little more, especially towards the end。

What a fun ride that was! In a land that is always summer, a young woman and an immortal faerie fall in love。 There's certainly a lot of magic and beautiful moments in this book。 I let myself get swept along in the fantasy and all the scrumptious description。 I found the romance between the girl and the creature a bit hard to believe but that hardly mattered when the tension between them was ratcheted up so high。 If you like young adult fantasy novels, this one is certainly worth the read。 What a fun ride that was! Took me forever to get back into it once I stopped, just so much forests? And we don’t even see them fall in love it’s all “off-camera” so yeah didn’t buy it。 Also the fae being so different from humans threw me off I like when the couples still have human characteristics

loved the writing, nice romance but the plot wasn’t rlly super intriguing

A nice feel-good fantasy romance。 The plot was actually pretty structured considering it was only a 300 page standalone。 All in all, a great read!

DNF at 48%This book dragged so much。I really like the other book by this author so I was excited to read this book but I couldn’t even finish this book。There were so many descriptions and nothing happened。 Near the part where I DNF’ed the book, the main characters acted as if in love with each other and were trying to resist each other as it was against the law。 How did that happen? They never talked to each other and they didn’t even really interact with each other when they were together。 When DNF at 48%This book dragged so much。I really like the other book by this author so I was excited to read this book but I couldn’t even finish this book。There were so many descriptions and nothing happened。 Near the part where I DNF’ed the book, the main characters acted as if in love with each other and were trying to resist each other as it was against the law。 How did that happen? My sister didn't like this book and I haven't read it in a good couple of years but I remember really enjoying it。 Honestly, nothing extremely special but the plot had me captivated for some reason。 Not sure that I'd enjoy it as much now, but let's leave the description of this book as "cute"。 My sister didn't like this book and I haven't read it in a good couple of years but I remember really enjoying it。 Honestly, nothing extremely special but the plot had me captivated for some reason。 Not sure that I'd enjoy it as much now, but let's leave the description of this book as "cute"。 。。。more

To be honest, I just read three-fourth of this book so I guess this technically is a dnf but still, I think I know enough to rate and review it。I really, really hoped that it would be a great read。 I am so disappointed。Someone actually recommended it to me because I love FOTA but this book is not up to the mark comparatively。Can I just say I really DESPISE love-at-first-sight? (for the record how the hell is this concept similar to FOTA) It's just absurd, you can't just like some random hot faery you used to fear and now he turns out to be mushy and you are already heart-eyed within an hour of meeting。 No, this doesn't work。Here it becomes so fairytale-ish that I even dreaded to read the ending, hence having to ditch it。It does get 2 stars because of the exquisite style of writing and the wordplay and the world she created and its concepts were exceptional, but otherwise, nothing more than a disappointing sappy love story with some normal fantasy conflicts, definitely not worth the time, unless you are an ACOTAR fan or you live for the fae。 。。。more

What an amazing book!! I adored it, the main character Isobel is absolutely charming, intelligent, strong。 She's a portrait artist and mostly commissioned by the fair folk。 She's told by one of her most important patrons Gadfly, that the Autumn prince will be coming to commission a portrait from her。 Rook is the Autumn prince and hasn't come to Whimsy in hundreds of years。 She meets him by chance on her way home from buying supplies, where she is saved from an attack by the prince of Autumn, Roo What an amazing book!! I adored it, the main character Isobel is absolutely charming, intelligent, strong。 She's a portrait artist and mostly commissioned by the fair folk。 She's told by one of her most important patrons Gadfly, that the Autumn prince will be coming to commission a portrait from her。 Rook is the Autumn prince and hasn't come to Whimsy in hundreds of years。 She meets him by chance on her way home from buying supplies, where she is saved from an attack by the prince of Autumn, Rook。 Their sessions are wonderful, they learn a lot from each other and come to care for each other。 But Isobel knows she cant afford to have feelings for the Autumn prince of faerie。 They aren't human and human rules don't apply to them。 When his portrait is almost finished he's called back to faerie, and asks her to pack the painting for it to be picked up。 Days after the portrait was picked up, Rook shows up and takes her to be judged for painting him with sorrow in his eyes, emotions fair folk don't have or show。 For painting him with this weakness she is to be tried for her crime。Once on his land, they are attacked numerous times。 Things are wrong in Faerie, and they must depend on each other to survive。 Their relationship blossoms, trust being earned, and growing into love, something forbidden to them with the penalty of death。 This book is wonderfully narrated。 The world beautifully detailed, the characters are well developed believable, full of life。 It was fast paced, full of action and wonderful details。 Could not put it down。 The only bad thing about this, is that it's s stand alone not a series, so I won't see more of Isobel and Rook and her sisters and aunt😞😭 “No。 You surpass us all。" Beside me she looked colorless and frail。 "You are like a living rose among wax flowers。 We may last forever, but you bloom brighter and smell sweeter, and draw blood with your thorns。” Aster to Isobel“Are you in love with me?" I blurted out。A terrible silence followed。 Rook didn't turn around。"Please say something。"He rounded on me。 "Is that so terrible? You say it as though it's the most awful thing you can imagine。 It isn't as though I've done it on purpose。 Somehow I've even grown fond of your - your irritating questions, and your short legs, and your accidental attempts to kill me。"I recoiled。 "That's the worst declaration of love I've ever heard!” Isobel and Rook“But that was the problem with the old me, I was coming to realize。 She'd accepted that behaving correctly meant not being happy, because that was the way the world worked。 She hadn't asked enough - of life, or of herself。” Isobel“The thought of seeing judgment - or worse, disappointment - on her face when she looked at me next made me want to curl in on myself and never face the world again。 I had no way to prove that the love Rook and I felt for each other was real and that we deserved every desperate, foolhardy inch of it, and I was already tired, so tired, of bearing its weight as a failure。 A crime。” Isobel 。。。more
