A fun retelling without being an exact replica。 Cute and I appreciate the strong girl although the plot line was not memorable

I WANTED to love this, but it was such crap that it took me MONTHS to finish and I will not be keeping it。 Don’t waste your time with this garbage, read the original Princess Bride for truly good writing。

It is important to keep in mind that this is a zero spice, truly YA novel who’s protagonist is 16 y/o。 。。。more

More of a high 3 than a 4。 Honestly, this was good。 The writing was good, the characters were interesting, etc。 It's just that I wasn't particularly interested due to the lack of romance。 It just got kind of boring due to the lack of a build-up in terms of romance。 It felt like I was missing a prequel or something lol。 But, still, it did get better once all the characters were introduced and the action really started to get going。 I'll probably read the next book, however, due to the ending。 I w More of a high 3 than a 4。 Honestly, this was good。 The writing was good, the characters were interesting, etc。 It's just that I wasn't particularly interested due to the lack of romance。 It just got kind of boring due to the lack of a build-up in terms of romance。 It felt like I was missing a prequel or something lol。 But, still, it did get better once all the characters were introduced and the action really started to get going。 I'll probably read the next book, however, due to the ending。 I will say that the ending was quite shocking and I can't decide if it just feels like the author randomly decided to change the whole direction by adding the last bit and I can't decide if I like it or not。 But it does imply something quite dramatic and more interesting will happen, so, yeah, I'll be reading the sequel lol。 。。。more

Sarah Henning’s The Princess Will Save You is the proclaimed gender swap of The Princess Bride in the YA world and as a huge fan of the movie/book I can say that it is all that and more! This has all the fanfare and excitement you would experience from the cult classic movie (and the book too in some ways) with a few added twists! This is a fantasy read not to be missed! And in more recent news, Sarah has announced it’s no longer a duology, but a trilogy!Princess Amarande is best friends with the stable boy, Luca, whom she grew up with as a child。 They spend their days practicing sword fights in the fields and life is pretty good all around, until the day her father, the king dies mysteriously。 Ama believes he was poisoned but no one really wants to look into it, they write it off as a tragic accident and they are anxious to get her married asap so she can be on the throne, for yes, we are in those times where a queen does not rule the kingdom on her own。 With three other neighboring kingdoms there are three potential suitors, but none rub her the wrong was as Renard。When Ama finds Luca missing and a note that tells her to marry Renard or else, Ama knows exactly what she has to do。 She has to save he best friend。 Though we the reader will learn the error of her ways, as the story is told in multiple third person point of view, and we soon learn just how far Renard will go to get his crown。Luca is kidnapped by a trio of thieves who are determined to collect their money by delivering him to the meeting point。 Luca is a very carefree sort of guy, very sweet and humble。 He soon becomes almost friends with one of his kidnappers, but never fear, there’s no romance in that area。Meanwhile we watch as Ama fights tooth and nail to overcome obstacle after obstacle and enemy after enemy to get to her friend。I have to say, Sarah did an incredible job of giving this book all The Princess Bride feels! It very much has that same air and tone to it that the movie and book did。 There’s still some differences, such as the bonafide born-a-princess is riding out to rescue her farm boy。 There are pirates/thieves acting as the kidnappers, two boys and a girl, all from different walks of life and you’ll be surprised by what happens with these guys。 We have a prince who is very much the Six-Fingered Man in some ways。The pace to this one was just the right speed。 If you’re familiar with the movie you kind of know where the path will take you, as it does follow that storyline in its own way。 The ending though is something else entirely! I had thought I was devising a similar theory as Ama was, but the ending totally threw that theory out the window and now has me absolutely baffled! I love it when an author does that! Luckily, I’m ready to dive into the next book but I fear what sort of cliffhanger I might encounter there as well。 We’re in new territory after this book and I am all for exploring it!There was still a bit of romance in this one with Ama and Luca。 For year, they’ve fought their feelings for each other and now they’re going all out with them。 Perhaps it’s not as an intense love as the proclaimed couple before them, but it’s still just as sweet as there’s nothing either of them wouldn’t do to keep the other one safe。 I’m hoping Sarah will deepen their relationship a bit more as the series trickles along! The Princess Will Save You is one of the first retellings I’ve encountered for The Princess Bride and I positively loved it! I cannot wait to see what Sarah is going to do with this series。 It’s fast-paced exciting adventure with mystery, betrayals, intrigue and more。 It’s a page-turning kind of read for sure and should not be missed!Overall Rating 4。5/5 stars 。。。more

This book was so fast paced, it hooked me right away。 It also includes my favorite trope: Best friends to lovers。 It follows the story of Princess Amarande, a fierce and brave girl involved in a world of politics and schemes。 Luca, her best friend, is a gentle and kind boy that is easy to love。It was very refreshing to not only see the roles reverse with a strong female lead, but also breaking the toxic masculinity with a male lead that is never threatened by the power of a woman。This was a very This book was so fast paced, it hooked me right away。 It also includes my favorite trope: Best friends to lovers。 It follows the story of Princess Amarande, a fierce and brave girl involved in a world of politics and schemes。 Luca, her best friend, is a gentle and kind boy that is easy to love。It was very refreshing to not only see the roles reverse with a strong female lead, but also breaking the toxic masculinity with a male lead that is never threatened by the power of a woman。This was a very fast read and I enjoyed it throughout。 。。。more

3,5 to 4⭐️, I’m not sure。。。The beginning was a bit long。。。 It didn’t amazed me, I had high expectations for that book。 But on another side, the end was really good! I read the last 100 pages in one sitting and I look forward for the next book because I can’t be let on a cliffhanger like that!

Absolutely not。 But I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to the sequel I have waiting on my kindle。 。。。more

I fell in love with this cover, and wanted to like the book more than I ended up liking it。 The Princess Bride references were great, but the author tried to push the feminist angle so much that she left plot holes and character flaws that didn't need to be there。 There was also a sense that feminism should be pursued simply for the sake of itself, rather than for something greater。 Morality, in particular, was acutely lacking as a goal or aim of even the main characters。 I fell in love with this cover, and wanted to like the book more than I ended up liking it。 The Princess Bride references were great, but the author tried to push the feminist angle so much that she left plot holes and character flaws that didn't need to be there。 There was also a sense that feminism should be pursued simply for the sake of itself, rather than for something greater。 Morality, in particular, was acutely lacking as a goal or aim of even the main characters。 。。。more

This book was a huge letdown。 It was pretty boring。 It was advertised as a gender swapped Princess Bride but it felt more like a story with a few references sprinkled in。 It severely lacked the humor I was hoping a Princess Bride inspired book would have and all the characters just felt flat and I didn't really see the passion between the characters。 I liked the character of Ula however This book was a huge letdown。 It was pretty boring。 It was advertised as a gender swapped Princess Bride but it felt more like a story with a few references sprinkled in。 It severely lacked the humor I was hoping a Princess Bride inspired book would have and all the characters just felt flat and I didn't really see the passion between the characters。 I liked the character of Ula however 。。。more

How far will one go for love? Sarah Henning takes the reader on an adventure alongside Princess Amarande to find out。 I knew picking this book up from the title alone that I was going to be reading about a strong female character and I was not disappointed。 I also enjoyed the world building in this story and had vivid pictures in my mind throughout the whole time reading。 I am very much anticipating the next book in this series to continue reading about these characters I have come to enjoy!

I learned later that this book is a retelling of the Princess Bride。 I liked it more than the original。 As much as I love some silly humor, I never quite got into the humor of the Princess Bride, so I don't at all mind its absence in this version。 I appreciate the gender swapped story, not the least because it kind of shows some of the rules women are constrained by。 It's a YA, and I really would have appreciated it if it had existed when I was a teen who needed more women in YA novels。 I learned later that this book is a retelling of the Princess Bride。 I liked it more than the original。 As much as I love some silly humor, I never quite got into the humor of the Princess Bride, so I don't at all mind its absence in this version。 I appreciate the gender swapped story, not the least because it kind of shows some of the rules women are constrained by。 It's a YA, and I really would have appreciated it if it had existed when I was a teen who needed more women in YA novels。 。。。more

And all through the book everything she does makes me want to stand up and clap。 THIS is how you write a BA female。 Take note everyone。 Despite this, I also liked how she realized she doesn't know everything and that she needs to take note of what she learns from the people in her country along the way so she is prepared for whatever is to come in the future books。 I hope she takes the whole kingdom by storm because I'm ready for it。 Also, it's a nice change of pace every once in a while to read a book where the relationship is already established and the author just has to show us through their interactions and thoughts。 It opens up the book so much more for world-building, action, politics etc in this book。 I do still love watching characters fall in love but I feel like most books lean that way so the fact that this one already had a built-in love story, made it feel fresh and allowed me to focus on and wonder about other aspects in the book。I had several predictions that did not come true and there were several twists I was not expecting which is what pushed this from good to great and made me give The Princess Will Save You 5 stars。 I LOVE when a book surprises me especially when I'm wrong about my predictions。Now onto the ARC of book #2 The Queen Will Betray You! ahhhhh! 。。。more
