While I appreciate the concept of making yokai scary again rather than the cutesy iterations seen in most yokai manga, this first volume falls flat for two reasons。 One, the completely unnecessary fan service and two, the repetitive structure。 The fan service in this volume is the kind that makes me think, "I bet if the main character was a boy there would be no fan service"。 Not too offensive (at least by manga/ anime standards), but unnecessary and again makes me question whether this would be While I appreciate the concept of making yokai scary again rather than the cutesy iterations seen in most yokai manga, this first volume falls flat for two reasons。 One, the completely unnecessary fan service and two, the repetitive structure。 The fan service in this volume is the kind that makes me think, "I bet if the main character was a boy there would be no fan service"。 Not too offensive (at least by manga/ anime standards), but unnecessary and again makes me question whether this would be happening if the protagonist was a boy。 With regards to the repetitive structure, while the last two chapters took different paths with the same formula, every other chapter was exactly the same: Miko is doing something mundane, she discovers there's a yokai, she tries to avoid it, shenanigans ensue。 I understand that manga like these are going to be a tad repetitive, the fan service and the fact that I didn't find ANY of the punch lines funny made the repetition worse。I borrowed the second volume so I'm going to at least read that one, but I doubt I'll continue with this series。 It's just not for me。 。。。more

This was a curious read as I came casually across it, basically it’s ’I can see dead people, but I’ll try to ignore them instead because they’re dead’。 Miko, she can see dead people, is our main lead as we follow her encounters with monsters and spirits whilst doing daily activities, out with her friends or on errands。 It’s only 150 pages but the detail art of the grotesque monstrous creatures or evil spirits are really impressively frightening。 However, Miko trying to hold back her fear has a s This was a curious read as I came casually across it, basically it’s ’I can see dead people, but I’ll try to ignore them instead because they’re dead’。 Miko, she can see dead people, is our main lead as we follow her encounters with monsters and spirits whilst doing daily activities, out with her friends or on errands。 It’s only 150 pages but the detail art of the grotesque monstrous creatures or evil spirits are really impressively frightening。 However, Miko trying to hold back her fear has a strange black comedy effect to it。 For example, when she’s so terrified and holds back her tears hard enough not to show it to her friends or family, she would rather walk into a ghost that she’s terrified in an awkward position than show fear。 Damn that’s bold! There’s plenty of poignant stuff with a plenty of ambiguity because why she starts seeing ghosts is never explain, well not in this volume anyway。 Especially would love to know the people she comes across who are followed by either evil or good spirits。 There’s never really a background story why these spirits are haunting these people which is a shame because it would make the chapters more meaningful。I’m guessing this is gonna be short series, as it consists mainly short chapters with a ghoul, but gives ‘must protec’ vibes when Miko cries。 Warning this may give you nightmares or make want you to protect every cute anime girl in danger! 。。。more

This was alright。 A little too ecchi for my taste, but I will probably check out more of the series。 The plot also became super repetitive after awhile。 I mean we get it you hate this gift/curse (however you want to see it), its the same thing with avoiding eye contact and internal screaming。 It got old and this was a short manga, so I am hoping I don't get burnt out too quickly from this series。 What I did like were the instances where Mieruko uses her ability to help out in particular situatio This was alright。 A little too ecchi for my taste, but I will probably check out more of the series。 The plot also became super repetitive after awhile。 I mean we get it you hate this gift/curse (however you want to see it), its the same thing with avoiding eye contact and internal screaming。 It got old and this was a short manga, so I am hoping I don't get burnt out too quickly from this series。 What I did like were the instances where Mieruko uses her ability to help out in particular situations。 If the story evolves into more of that, then I will probably continue。 。。。more

In “Mieruko-chan” we follow the everyday life of Miko as she’s haunted by grotesque creatures that appear everywhere she goes。 At a loss for what to do, Miko simply tries to ignore them and distract herself by doing simple things like looking at her phone or checking the time。 Unable however to find refuge anywhere, she seeks comfort with her best friend Hana, whose smile Miko uses to distract her thoughts and attention for a while。 It’s an absolutely fantastic manga if you're a horror fan, and In “Mieruko-chan” we follow the everyday life of Miko as she’s haunted by grotesque creatures that appear everywhere she goes。 At a loss for what to do, Miko simply tries to ignore them and distract herself by doing simple things like looking at her phone or checking the time。 Unable however to find refuge anywhere, she seeks comfort with her best friend Hana, whose smile Miko uses to distract her thoughts and attention for a while。 It’s an absolutely fantastic manga if you're a horror fan, and it’s not your usual scary in the classic sense of horror, which I love。 You know, jump scares, squeaky wooden floor boards etc。 - but it instead brings a unique scary element to the table, and it exceeds at lightening up the mood every now and then by bringing in comedic jokes and phrases, such as "There's more to life than just donuts。"。 It's truly amazing, there's simply nothing more that can be said。 Give it a go! 。。。more

This first volume is pretty funny, and the horror graphics are spooky! Also am enjoying the characters but am hoping a plot of some kind develops in the next volume or so, as so far there is。。。well。。。none。 Creepy imagery and humorous lines can only keep you interested for so long。SPOILER BUT NOT REALLY:。。。。。。The lil spooky man tho。 And also the vagina ghost/demon/monster/spirit? What?? I think my favorite, though, was the cashier one tbh。

What a very gross, but very cute manga! I really enjoyed the art style in this one! Following the main character through her day to day life really had me feeling for her and the constant fear she was on。 Even so it was still very lighthearted。 The ending of this volume brought a little twist that had me wanting to pic up the next volume。

Creepy & CuteA quick read。 The spirits are very creepy looking but the mc and her friend are quite cute。 Not a lot of substance but an enjoyable read。 Scratches my horror and cuteness itch at the same time。 I'll likely pick up the others sometime。 Creepy & CuteA quick read。 The spirits are very creepy looking but the mc and her friend are quite cute。 Not a lot of substance but an enjoyable read。 Scratches my horror and cuteness itch at the same time。 I'll likely pick up the others sometime。 。。。more

DifferentI enjoyed this much more than I thought I would。 The designs for the things Miko sees are top notch creepy。 You can’t help but feel bad for her seeing everything she sees but can’t react to。 If I were in her shoes, I’d be busted。 They’d know I’d be able to see them all, every time one of them popped up。 I swear she has nerves of steel to be able to keep her face straight。

Volumes 1-4 review: 3。5/5Some of the fanservice early on rubbed me the wrong way, and it's so far hard to tell where this story is going (if anywhere)。 So far it's mostly a slice of life, while some things imply some sort of overarching plot going on。The concept however is fucking great。 This teen girl can see all sorts of dangerous(?) and powerful spirits, which no one can, and she's absolutely terrified, but she tries to pretend everything's fine in hopes that the spirits will not harm her。 Oc Volumes 1-4 review: 3。5/5Some of the fanservice early on rubbed me the wrong way, and it's so far hard to tell where this story is going (if anywhere)。 So far it's mostly a slice of life, while some things imply some sort of overarching plot going on。The concept however is fucking great。 This teen girl can see all sorts of dangerous(?) and powerful spirits, which no one can, and she's absolutely terrified, but she tries to pretend everything's fine in hopes that the spirits will not harm her。 Occasionally she gets to help others out in matters of lost family members and there's some heart-warming moments but mostly this poor girl is just suffering and trying to find help。 。。。more

It was definitely quite cute in parts and made me smile a couple of times, but the gory pictures and sexy shots of the teenage main character and her friend made me kind of uncomfortable。

there’s only one more volume out that i’m about to read but i’m hopeful for it so 4 stars。 the fan service in the beginning wasn’t t o o bad but slight distasteful, however it got way better after the fact。

She can see grotesque, bizarre, disturbing monsters, but she doesn't want them to know that can。 So she feigns ignorance and acts like nothing's out of the ordinary。 Even though she's scared。 Based on the author's notes at the end of volume 1, it's pretty clear that there wasn't much of a plan going in。 So at first, it's similar to a gag manga, and there's one joke。 Horrifying monster appears; Mieruko-chan turns a blind eye。 So it's slice-of-life with horror scenery。 And lots of gratuitous angle She can see grotesque, bizarre, disturbing monsters, but she doesn't want them to know that can。 So she feigns ignorance and acts like nothing's out of the ordinary。 Even though she's scared。 Based on the author's notes at the end of volume 1, it's pretty clear that there wasn't much of a plan going in。 So at first, it's similar to a gag manga, and there's one joke。 Horrifying monster appears; Mieruko-chan turns a blind eye。 So it's slice-of-life with horror scenery。 And lots of gratuitous angles of either her or her buxom bestie。 However, I'm giving Vol2 a try because the comic's popularity & pick-up by a publisher appears to have nudged the story toward more of a plot, which is hinted at in the last panels of Vol1。 I'll hang in there a little while to see if something develops。 。。。more

I picked this up when I was at a local comic book store, and purely because I feel guilty not buying anything if I go into a local book store。 I ended up loving it and I’m glad it wasn’t going to be really dark as I first thought。The main character is really likable and I sympathize that she can’t do much about the ghost she sees even when it’s the ghost of father。

Ehh it was okay。 It has fan service as others have said but not as bad as I was expecting。 Even so, the plot is kinda weak and I can’t see myself keep going。 I might return to it when it’s a completed series。 Overall, interesting start to a series but didn’t hook me right away。

I have a story in my head that is similar to this, and with my research and thoughts about, “how would you react if you could one day, see something horrible?” came out and in that, this book’s reality seared me to the core。Miko is adorable, but there is far more than meets the eye with her。 She was normal and then, she wasn’t。 She’s trying to protect her friend from these horrible spirits that are mostly large eyes, big box teeth, and too many limbs。 On top of her trying to keep her loved one s I have a story in my head that is similar to this, and with my research and thoughts about, “how would you react if you could one day, see something horrible?” came out and in that, this book’s reality seared me to the core。Miko is adorable, but there is far more than meets the eye with her。 She was normal and then, she wasn’t。 She’s trying to protect her friend from these horrible spirits that are mostly large eyes, big box teeth, and too many limbs。 On top of her trying to keep her loved one safe, there is a hint of, “because the spirits are around a particular person, that person might be evil。” Neither Miko nor these creatures are one-dimensional, and that’s appreciated。 There are particular sequences and pages where the creatures in all of their horrific glory are revealed to the audience, and just as you think Miko found a way to expel the creatures, she finds more questions than answers。 We are just as frustrated as she is。 This is a well-crafted story about the examination of grief, loss, and how sometimes, ignoring a problem can only make it worse。 I could’ve done without the fan service, as I find I’m getting too old for that, but if we take that out of the equation, this nails the landing。 4。5 / 5 stars。 。。。more
