Summary

From Brian Moylan, the writer of Vulture’s legendary Real Housewives recaps, a table-flipping, finger-pointing, halter-topping VIP journey through reality TV’s greatest saga…

In the spring of 2006, a new kind of show premiered on Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County。 Its stars were tanned, taut, and bedazzled; their homes were echoey California villas; and their drama was gossip-fueled, wine-drenched, and absolutely exquisite。 Fifteen seasons on, RHOC is an institution, along with The Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Potomac, and more。 Over the years these ladies have done a lot more than lunch, launching thirty-one books, a cocktail line, two jail sentences, a couple supermodel daughters, Andy Cohen’s talk show career, thirty-six divorces, fourteen albums, a White House party crash, and approximately one million memes。

Brian Moylan has been there through it all, in front of the screen and behind the scenes。 The writer of Vulture’s beloved series recaps, he’s here to tell us the full story, from the inside scoop on every classic throwdown to the questions we’ve always wanted to know, like—what are the housewives really like off-camera? (The same。) How much money do they make? (Lots。) He has a lot to say about the legacy and fandom of a franchise that’s near and dear to his heart, and inextricable from pop culture today。

A must-have for any fan of real drama and fake [redacted], The Housewives is the definitive companion to an American TV treasure。

I love Brian's recaps of RHONY, RHOBH and Summer House but this book was surprisingly dry and dull。 There wasn't much dirt dished at all and there was far too much about the producers and Bravo than about the actual housewives。 Plus, Alexandre de Lesseps is French, not Swiss and descended from one of the promoters/builders of the Suez Canal, something easily found by Googling him。 I love Brian's recaps of RHONY, RHOBH and Summer House but this book was surprisingly dry and dull。 There wasn't much dirt dished at all and there was far too much about the producers and Bravo than about the actual housewives。 Plus, Alexandre de Lesseps is French, not Swiss and descended from one of the promoters/builders of the Suez Canal, something easily found by Googling him。 。。。more

I had no doubt that I would love this juicy book about one of my favorite pastimes- the Housewives have been a personal obsession since I was 15 years old and I watched the first season of RHONY。 I’ve also been a fan of Brian for a long time- I religiously read his Vulture recaps after watching new episodes, and his commentary is part of the enjoyment for me。This book really did have everything- it was a mix of origin story, behind-the-scenes information, personal anecdotes, and deep analysis of I had no doubt that I would love this juicy book about one of my favorite pastimes- the Housewives have been a personal obsession since I was 15 years old and I watched the first season of RHONY。 I’ve also been a fan of Brian for a long time- I religiously read his Vulture recaps after watching new episodes, and his commentary is part of the enjoyment for me。This book really did have everything- it was a mix of origin story, behind-the-scenes information, personal anecdotes, and deep analysis of why we love and love to hate this pop culture behemoth。 I particularly loved learning the mechanics of production and compensation- I’ve always wanted to know who pays for the trips!!!! I LOVED this。 I haven’t finished a book in months, and I finished this one in days。 I wish there was more。 As a proud viewer of reality tv, especially the housewives, this was a really interesting psychological, statistical, and gossipy discussion about why we love those women。

As a casual viewer years ago, it wasn't terribly interesting。 I was looking for more of a behind-the-scenes look at RHOC and RHONY。 But I imagine a real fan will enjoy。 As a casual viewer years ago, it wasn't terribly interesting。 I was looking for more of a behind-the-scenes look at RHOC and RHONY。 But I imagine a real fan will enjoy。 。。。more

An absolute must-read for any Housewives fan。 It’s the perfect book for when you’ve binged hours of Housewives already in a day, and you don’t want to leave them, but know you should probably pick up a book。 If you pick this one up, it’s the next best thing to actually watching。 I went in thinking “I already know so much about the ‘wives”, but I learned so much more than I ever thought I could。 This is a history text book that should be taught, and Brian Moylan should be the one teaching it。

Where are my @bravotv fans at? Specifically Real Housewives fans, have I got a super fun book rec for you! I have been obsessed with the Housewives since their inception。 Growing up on reality TV (real and also scripted), I knew this was just the book that I needed to read。 The Housewives tells the story of the Bravo series, but also gives behind the scenes insights and the historical background of the network and show。 Everything in this book was completely fascinating, but also gave a nostalgic feel to take a walk down memory lane of iconic episodes。 The audiobook is narrated by the author, Brian M I have been obsessed with the Housewives since their inception。 Growing up on reality TV (real and also scripted), I knew this was just the book that I needed to read。 The Housewives tells the story of the Bravo series, but also gives behind the scenes insights and the historical background of the network and show。 Everything in this book was completely fascinating, but also gave a nostalgic feel to take a walk down memory lane of iconic episodes。 The audiobook is narrated by the author, Brian Moylan。 Brian is completely entertaining and engaging。 His words are snarky and many times, tongue in cheek。 I found myself laughing out loud multiple times, because Brian is hilarious。 He knows how to deliver a line and do a killer Housewives impression。 I didn't have to speed up the narration too much, which is a first for me (and I loved it)。 This book is perfect for Housewives lovers or those that enjoy Bravo。 I've already pre-ordered a physical copy and am sharing it with my mother in law, who also is obsessed with the housewives。 The Housewives is out May 25。 Thank you MacMillan Audio for the ALC。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This book is a fun history lesson for any Real Housewives fans。 Brian Moylan did his research and I give him kudos for trying to wrangle as many housewives (former and present) and producers to gather information。 For all the people that Brian interviewed, thank you for taking part of this because I was thoroughly entertained。

Brian Moylan did an absolutely fantastic job at recreating all of my favorite Housewives moments that will forever live in history, as well as recapping exactly how the franchise has gotten to where it is today。 He did such a great job as researching the ins and outs of the history of reality tv and how these shows came to be。 His talent in interviewing Bravolebrities is unmatched and he really knows how to get them to spill the tea。 This was such an entertaining listen and I will surely be reli Brian Moylan did an absolutely fantastic job at recreating all of my favorite Housewives moments that will forever live in history, as well as recapping exactly how the franchise has gotten to where it is today。 He did such a great job as researching the ins and outs of the history of reality tv and how these shows came to be。 His talent in interviewing Bravolebrities is unmatched and he really knows how to get them to spill the tea。 This was such an entertaining listen and I will surely be relistening to this in the future when I need a Housewives fill。 Thank you to the published, author, and NetGalley for this advanced copy。 10/10 。。。more

I just reviewed The Housewives by Brian Moylan, thank you #NetGalley and Macmillan Audio。 I love when an audiobook is not only engaging, but also read by the author。 Brian does a fantastic job unfolding the story, and behind the scenes takeaways from a favorite binge worthy TV phenomenon Real Housewives。 While we sit behind our TV screens, and watch the life of these privilege women across America ranging from The OC, to New York, to Atlanta, we can’t help but identify with some of them even tho I just reviewed The Housewives by Brian Moylan, thank you #NetGalley and Macmillan Audio。 I love when an audiobook is not only engaging, but also read by the author。 Brian does a fantastic job unfolding the story, and behind the scenes takeaways from a favorite binge worthy TV phenomenon Real Housewives。 While we sit behind our TV screens, and watch the life of these privilege women across America ranging from The OC, to New York, to Atlanta, we can’t help but identify with some of them even though our privilege may look very different than theirs。Brian does a great job of toeing the line between making the Real Housewives empire relevant, and personal, but still keeping in mind the satire of reality TV。 The author’s knowledge, background, and research of the Empires production, was well vetted and spot on。 I truly enjoyed the journey and highly recommend this book to anybody who is a fan of any branch of the Real Housewives。Thank you NetGalley for this ARC。 And don’t forget to check out The Housewives, released on May 25th 。。。more

So much fun! This is for die hard housewife fans only, but for those people (i。e。 my people) this is a must read。 Snarky, gossipy but also lots of fascinating behind the scenes stuff, and all with the author’s obvious affection for his subject(s)。 A little history, a little feminist theory, a whole lot of anecdotes。。。。 and I laughed。。。。 a lot! The perfect audio soundtrack for my Key West road trip! 💕
