Summary

The Hellboy saga concludes, with the most ambitious chapter, Hellboy in Hell, collected in its entirety--all written and drawn by Mike Mignola。

On the heels of Hellboy Omnibus Volume 3: The Wild Hunt, Hellboy is cast into Hell, where familiar faces reveal secrets of his origins, and previously unknown family members come forward。 Hellboy forever alters the face of Hell, giving new significance to his role of Beast of the Apocalypse。

While featuring big answers and one of the most momentous choices Hellboy's ever made, Hellboy in Hell also offers a return to the simplest and best Hellboy stories, as Hellboy roams a unique world only Mignola could present, filled with strange and magical encounters rich with the power of folklore and myth。

The four volume Hellboy Omnibus series along with the two volumes of The Complete Short Stories collect all of Mignola's award-winning Hellboy stories in chronological order for a definitive reading experience。

Honestly, I am *slightly* dissappointed with this book as an ending。 Don't get me wrong, the artwork is stunning and the writing has lots of great little moments that tie together the whole series。。。 But the fact that the overarching plot of the Ogru Jahad doesn't get resolved here is dissappointing。 I understand that comes together in the BPRD series, but I am not a fan of having to acquire multiple series to get a full story。 Still, there's lots of cool moments and Hellboy remains a cool chara Honestly, I am *slightly* dissappointed with this book as an ending。 Don't get me wrong, the artwork is stunning and the writing has lots of great little moments that tie together the whole series。。。 But the fact that the overarching plot of the Ogru Jahad doesn't get resolved here is dissappointing。 I understand that comes together in the BPRD series, but I am not a fan of having to acquire multiple series to get a full story。 Still, there's lots of cool moments and Hellboy remains a cool character。 I'm glad I collected and read this series, and who knows。。。 Maybe I'll get around to the BPRD one day! 。。。more

A beautifully dark and poignant ending to the best comic series ever。

Had no idea how this would end but I like it。 I hope to reread the entire Hellboy series one day but I don’t want to read every BPRD Book

It was a little short, but I like that Hellboy was wrapped up。 I feel like just having an ending at all makes it feel more complete, even if it was a bit strange。 Then again, what did you expect to happen in Hell?

Na kraju, spustivši se u pakal, Hellboy je otisa u grandioznost, koja je zanimljiva, ali je izgubi ono ca je Hellboya cinilo tako dobrim, britkost i akciju。

I literally read this in a day。 I know it’s a comic but I couldn’t put it down。

A poetic end for Hellboy, and one that's worthy of him。 Mignola's art is as striking as ever, and Hellboy's journey through hell is sad, funny, mysterious, all the things you've come to expect。 I read afterwards about the Hellboy in Hell series and what Mignola originally intended to do as an ongoing series and the shift that caused him to bring it to a close -- a few elements of this volume make a lot more sense in that light。 Ultimately, there are parts of the plot here that feel a bit disconn A poetic end for Hellboy, and one that's worthy of him。 Mignola's art is as striking as ever, and Hellboy's journey through hell is sad, funny, mysterious, all the things you've come to expect。 I read afterwards about the Hellboy in Hell series and what Mignola originally intended to do as an ongoing series and the shift that caused him to bring it to a close -- a few elements of this volume make a lot more sense in that light。 Ultimately, there are parts of the plot here that feel a bit disconnected from the rest, which is really its only *minor* drawback。 But they're all as charming as ever, and I'm looking forward to reading through Hellboy's saga many more times。 。。。more

The narrative is still distractingly disjointed and often incoherent, and I did not find the ending satisfying at all。 But man, that art is as gorgeous as ever。 More eye candy than novel。

I love all the callbacks in this collection, revisiting so many stories, moments, and characters, and illuminating them further。But I hate hate hate that Hellboy has an ending at all。 I want him to go on having amazing adventures forever! 😭Also, I feel that more definitely could have been done with this story, and the author goes on to mention that there was much more planned but it felt like a natural end。 It feels to me that there must have been some happy middle ground we've missed out on, as I love all the callbacks in this collection, revisiting so many stories, moments, and characters, and illuminating them further。But I hate hate hate that Hellboy has an ending at all。 I want him to go on having amazing adventures forever! 😭Also, I feel that more definitely could have been done with this story, and the author goes on to mention that there was much more planned but it felt like a natural end。 It feels to me that there must have been some happy middle ground we've missed out on, as things seemed a bit truncated toward the end。I shall hold out hope that someone, someday, somehow, goes and gets Hellboy back。 If Supernatural can get half the cast back out of Hell, I see no reason the B。P。R。D。 can't figure it out。 。。。more

The stories in this volume introduce ideas that, if handled properly, could have made for an interesting finale。 Unfortunately, the reader is rushed past those ideas at a breakneck pace and only given a glimpse at each of them before being whisked away to ooh and ah at another equally pointless spectacle。 This results in numerous plot critical events happening between panels and chapters and creates the appearance of logical inconsistencies。 By which I mean that the author might understand why e The stories in this volume introduce ideas that, if handled properly, could have made for an interesting finale。 Unfortunately, the reader is rushed past those ideas at a breakneck pace and only given a glimpse at each of them before being whisked away to ooh and ah at another equally pointless spectacle。 This results in numerous plot critical events happening between panels and chapters and creates the appearance of logical inconsistencies。 By which I mean that the author might understand why events happen, but the information given to the reader is not enough to justify the events unfolding as they do。 By Mignola's own admission (in the afterword) the story of Hellboy in Hell was intended to "go on forever, a rambling parade of stand-alone stories。" While that is not much better than what was produced, it could have provided the same simple joy as the short story collections。 Instead, Mignola goes on to explain how the story kept accelerating and condensing until it just ended。 Which goes a long way to explain why it reads like one large unplanned mess。 。。。more

I’ve been reading Mignola’s Hellboy since he first previewed it long ago before we lived in this hell-like world even Hellboy would be creeped out by。 If you don’t love every line and word on every page of this you don’t deserve to go to hell with Hellboy。

I spent the past two months reading Hellboy and the Hellboy Universe titles (I am still making my way through BPRD and others。) But this was the end of Hellboy's solo title written and drawn (usually) by Mike Mignola。 I don't want to say too much but the unbelievably melancholy tone was a surprise and this book has stuck with me for several days since finishing it。 When I saw that Hellboy was going to have adventures in Hell I imagined it as fun spooky stories of Hellboy fighting monsters and sa I spent the past two months reading Hellboy and the Hellboy Universe titles (I am still making my way through BPRD and others。) But this was the end of Hellboy's solo title written and drawn (usually) by Mike Mignola。 I don't want to say too much but the unbelievably melancholy tone was a surprise and this book has stuck with me for several days since finishing it。 When I saw that Hellboy was going to have adventures in Hell I imagined it as fun spooky stories of Hellboy fighting monsters and saying "oh crap" a lot。 What I didn't know is it would be a moody, sparse, cold feeling book of loneliness and purposelessness (it's the best word I can think of at the moment, sorry。) Finishing the book left me feeling incredibly sad, confused, and uncomfortable。 It actually reminded me of my feeling at the end of Twin Peaks (both seasons 2 and 3。) Mignola's art becomes even more abstract, his pacing even more uncomfortable and unorthodox, and everything more ambiguous and eerie。 What a fascinating book that I think will stick with me for a really long time。 。。。more

Dark and as atmospheric as the previous volumes, Hellboy's saga ends in what is a somber, yet confusing epilogue。 Mike Mignola's artwork comes to an astounding head, with a dark color scheme that perfectly matches the tone of the story it is attached to。 I'm not particularly a fan of how slow this chapter moves compared to the previous ones, but as a farewell to Hellboy and his world, it does it's job and does it fine。 Dark and as atmospheric as the previous volumes, Hellboy's saga ends in what is a somber, yet confusing epilogue。 Mike Mignola's artwork comes to an astounding head, with a dark color scheme that perfectly matches the tone of the story it is attached to。 I'm not particularly a fan of how slow this chapter moves compared to the previous ones, but as a farewell to Hellboy and his world, it does it's job and does it fine。 。。。more

This felt like a good wrap up to Hellboy。 Solid Mignola art the whole way, and I think it has a good balance of plot development vs。 folklore-inspired episodic weirdness, which has always been part of what I've like in Hellboy。 And its nice that he's finally able to get beyond anyone trying to claim him/his hand to bring doom to Earth (he just does so by bringing doom to hell)。 I know I read the first volume of this, but not sure about the rest。 It felt new to read it, but also seemed vaguely fa This felt like a good wrap up to Hellboy。 Solid Mignola art the whole way, and I think it has a good balance of plot development vs。 folklore-inspired episodic weirdness, which has always been part of what I've like in Hellboy。 And its nice that he's finally able to get beyond anyone trying to claim him/his hand to bring doom to Earth (he just does so by bringing doom to hell)。 I know I read the first volume of this, but not sure about the rest。 It felt new to read it, but also seemed vaguely familiar at parts?
