Summary

Ten years ago he killed my son。 Today I married him。

Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed。 My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere。

But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again。 My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets。 Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features。 The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband。

The man who killed my son。

My friends and family can’t understand it。 My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past。 How can I love a man like Tom?

They don’t really know me at all…

The most unputdownable psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K。L。 Slater。 If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage。

"Ten years ago he killed my son。 Today I married him"With a tag line like that how can you not want to read this book at lightning speed? What a action packed read this was! I couldn't read it fast enough。 A main protagonist that you loved to hate。 And characters that are more shadier than each other。My second 5 star read from this Author。Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the Author K。L。 Slater for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review。 "Ten years ago he killed my son。 Today I married him"With a tag line like that how can you not want to read this book at lightning speed? What a action packed read this was! The most intriguing blurb award goes to。。。Its filled with secrets, lies and revenge。 I did guess a couple of the twists but I was equally shocked by some others a good 4 star read。 This is my first read by K。L。 Slater and I have already got another two waiting to be read in my kindle 👍

I’ve read a few of K。L。 Slater’s books, some I enjoy some not so much。 This one was mediocre for me。 I was drawn in by the premise that someone could marry their son’s murderer is beyond belief and I believed it must be revenge, even though that seemed a step too far! There is more to the book than that and other sub-plots are revealed along the way。 Most of the book for me was too slow moving for my personal taste but there are some surprises and twists along the way。My thanks go to the author, I’ve read a few of K。L。 Slater’s books, some I enjoy some not so much。 This one was mediocre for me。 I was drawn in by the premise that someone could marry their son’s murderer is beyond belief and I believed it must be revenge, even though that seemed a step too far! There is more to the book than that and other sub-plots are revealed along the way。 Most of the book for me was too slow moving for my personal taste but there are some surprises and twists along the way。My thanks go to the author, the publishers and to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in return for an honest review。 。。。more

I've said it before, will say it again: this author's books are hit or miss with me。 Thankfully, this one was a hit。 The story kept me guessing right up to the end。 I thought several times I knew where it was heading and was wrong each time。 The characters were well fleshed out and the secret, when revealed, caught me by surprise。 The pacing was tight and I liked the structure of chapters from the various POV。 Clever use of misdirection throughout。 And I loved the clever final chapter。 I've said it before, will say it again: this author's books are hit or miss with me。 Thankfully, this one was a hit。 The story kept me guessing right up to the end。 I thought several times I knew where it was heading and was wrong each time。 The characters were well fleshed out and the secret, when revealed, caught me by surprise。 The pacing was tight and I liked the structure of chapters from the various POV。 Clever use of misdirection throughout。 And I loved the clever final chapter。 。。。more

I am a fan of K。L Slater so I was looking forward to getting my hands on her latest book。The Marriage didn’t go the way that I expected it to。 The story was not predictable so it was even better than expected。 Tom and Jesse were friends from a young age。 Their Mum’s, Jill and Bridget, were best friends until, after an incident on a night out left Jesse dead and Tom sent to prison for his manslaughter。 Restorative Justice put Tom and Bridget in touch whilst Tom served his sentence。 They were marr I am a fan of K。L Slater so I was looking forward to getting my hands on her latest book。The Marriage didn’t go the way that I expected it to。 The story was not predictable so it was even better than expected。 Tom and Jesse were friends from a young age。 Their Mum’s, Jill and Bridget, were best friends until, after an incident on a night out left Jesse dead and Tom sent to prison for his manslaughter。 Restorative Justice put Tom and Bridget in touch whilst Tom served his sentence。 They were married just before Tom was released leaving Tom to break the news to his Mum Jill。The story is told from different perspectives。 I expected the story to be about revenge。 The fact it isn’t made it a better read。I loved that Nottingham is the city it is set in as that is where I live and recognising the towns added to it。 As I have now come to expect, this is another excellent book by K。L Slater -and gets a big thumbs up from meThank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and the author for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "The Marriage" in exchange for my honest review。 The story starts with the Prologue in April 2019 when Bridget (48) is getting ready to marry Tom (28), in the prison chapel because he murdered her son Jesse 10 years ago。From there the story goes back to October 2009 and tells how Jesse Wilson (18) was killed by Thomas Billingham (18)。 They had been friends since childhood and a fight between them ended Jesse's life。 The story then returns to 2019 Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "The Marriage" in exchange for my honest review。 The story starts with the Prologue in April 2019 when Bridget (48) is getting ready to marry Tom (28), in the prison chapel because he murdered her son Jesse 10 years ago。From there the story goes back to October 2009 and tells how Jesse Wilson (18) was killed by Thomas Billingham (18)。 They had been friends since childhood and a fight between them ended Jesse's life。 The story then returns to 2019 and tells how Bridget started visiting Tom in prison 2 years ago under a Restorative Justice program。 6 months ago Tom proposed to Bridget and they decided to get married in the prison chapel because they knew that even though Bridget had found it in her heart to forgive him, their families would not understand。 We also meet Coral McKinty who was 6 months pregnant when Jesse died and she now has a son named Ellis。 The story continues to travel back and forth in time and it's told in several voices。There are some unexpected and shocking twists before the end of the book。 。。。more

I have to admit this is this first book of Kim's I've read but it won't be the last。 The blurb caught my attention right away。 Why the heck would a mother marry the man who killed her own son? Bizarre, right? Loved the characters and the insight we get of them all from every angle。 The twists and turns throughout kept my attention so much that i read the book in a day。 That doesn't often happen I can tell you。 Relationships, lies and let's say other criminal activities, without giving any spoile I have to admit this is this first book of Kim's I've read but it won't be the last。 The blurb caught my attention right away。 Why the heck would a mother marry the man who killed her own son? I read this and spent the whole time trying to figure out what was going to happen and who I should be suspecting。 I changed my mind so many times it was crazy! But that’s the fantastic thing about this book – it will have you hooked and you will have no clue what will happen next。 The twists absolutely blew me away – some of which I genuinely didn’t see coming! The characters are all pretty mysterious and I’m pretty sure you will doubt each and every one of them in some way! I really liked Bridget but felt that I shouldn’t – there was something about her, Jill was a miserable old bag, Tom was handsome and charming but again, I felt there was more to him that I realised。 Basically every character seemed to have something about them that made you question them!Slater’s writing style is fantastic and really will keep you hanging on。 It’s enjoyable, easy to read and follow and intriguing。Overall, if you’re looking for a fabulous, gripping psychological thriller that will get you suspecting everyone and wondering what is going to happen next, then this is for you! Highly recommended by me。 。。。more

Bridget Wilson is excited about seeing her fiancé at the wedding ceremony that day, which is normal for any bride。 However, Bridget is getting married in prison, to the man convicted of killing her son 10 earlier。 Bridget and Tom get married before his release knowing the backlash they will receive from family。 The twist and turns of events following Toms release unravel a whole host of hidden secrets。 A great psychological thriller which keeps you wanting to read the next chapter。

This starts off with a bang。 The narrator is 20 years older than her soon to be husband and if that isn’t enough, he’s killed her son。 I was drawn in from those first few pages。 The story settles down and unwinds the facts of it all for you, but it is a wild ride。 Are Bridget’s and Tom’s motives pure for getting married? Why did Tom kill Jesse? There are secrets galore and they aren’t always where you’d expect them。 What a great read! Kept me rapt from start to finish。

This was my first KL Slater book and won’t be my last。 About 2/3 of the book was very slow but still kept my interest。 The last 1/3 of the book was fast paced and very intriguing。 Everything I thought was happening wasn’t and when everything was revealed I was truly shocked。 3。5/5 stars。 Would definitely recommend。

I’ve really enjoyed this author in the past, so I was looking forward to this one。 The set-up was very clear。 The author did a great job of showing the connections between each of the characters (and there were quite a few to keep straight)。 But it was all well-plotted and I wasn’t confused at all。 There were some good twists, but the second part felt predictable, and I wasn’t really surprised by anything。 I also thought that things that were supposed to be shocking weren’t so very much。 I can’t I’ve really enjoyed this author in the past, so I was looking forward to this one。 The set-up was very clear。 The author did a great job of showing the connections between each of the characters (and there were quite a few to keep straight)。 But it was all well-plotted and I wasn’t confused at all。 There were some good twists, but the second part felt predictable, and I wasn’t really surprised by anything。 I also thought that things that were supposed to be shocking weren’t so very much。 I can’t fault the author for that though。 I think the world we live in has conditioned us to accept that anything goes。 It’s still a decent book。 3。5 stars。 For a full review, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks。 Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital ARC of the book。 。。。more

In this story nothing was as it seemed。 I wasn't sure what to believe and who was telling the truth。 It is a bit odd and unnatural to marry the killer of your son。 And I was on the fence about Bridget and her intentions throughout the whole book。 That said, I wasn't sure about Tom and his story or his family。 There was so much going on, driving the story forward。 Very engaging and impossible to put down。I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased。 In this story nothing was as it seemed。 I wasn't sure what to believe and who was telling the truth。 It is a bit odd and unnatural to marry the killer of your son。 And I was on the fence about Bridget and her intentions throughout the whole book。 That said, I wasn't sure about Tom and his story or his family。 There was so much going on, driving the story forward。 Very engaging and impossible to put down。I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased。 Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture! 。。。more
