Summary

There is nothing to be found in the pages of these books but misery and despair。 You still have time to choose something else to read。 But if you must know what unpleasantries befall the charming and clever Baudelaire children read on。。。The Hostile Hospital - There are many pleasant things to read about, but this book contains none of them。 Within its pages are such burdensome details as a suspicious shopkeeper, unnecessary surgery, heartshaped balloons, and some very starling news about a fire。 Clearly you do not want to read about such things。 About the Author: Lemony Snicket Lemony Snicket has spent several eras researching the travails of the Baudelaire orphans。 During his spare time, he gathers evidence and is considered something of an expert by leading authorities。 Lemony Snicket published his first book in 1999 and has not had a good night's sleep since。 To his horror and dismay, he has no wife or children, only enemies, associates, and the occasional loyal manservant。 Lemony Snicket's extended family, if they were alive, would describe him as a distinguished scholar, an amateur connoisseur, and an outright gentleman。

I love this book。 For me it was a really good children's litellature, I want to show it to my brother。 This is the best start for children who have started reading。 I like it but I don't feel good reading it because the writing style wasn't for me。 I love this book。 For me it was a really good children's litellature, I want to show it to my brother。 This is the best start for children who have started reading。 I like it but I don't feel good reading it because the writing style wasn't for me。 。。。more

Done! Another depressing episode of this relentlessly sadistic chronicle under my belt。。。 Really, take the author's warnings to heart: If you aren't a kid, avoid this series。 My god! Reading this aloud to my grandkids helps them go to sleep。 I am not kidding。。。 Adults are too fragile for this stuff。 Kids are much stronger。。。 Hmm, maybe I just came up with an idea for a story。 Thank you, Mr。 Snicket! Still keen! The ending is the most suspenseful one yet。。。I love that Sunny’s one-word responses now make sense! “Arrete” for stop; “Impro” for “we’ll think of something” (improvisation)。 It’s like as you go along, her language gains logic - making it feel as if you are really grasping her own little vocabulary! And the occasional joke in there (“Orlando!”) makes it all the better。 On top of that, the random literary references (which I won’t spoil for you here) in this book were an absolute gem Still keen! Part of the charm of Mr。 Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is it is always up to the children to help themselves。 This is a bit of a double edged sword, on the one hand, you want it to be about the kids and you want them to be the ones to solve the problems, on the other hand, every adult they come across in the series are either incompetent idiots or malicious fiends。There isn't anything terribly clever about the plot, but the writing is clever, Mr。 Snicket's style is what makes these bo Part of the charm of Mr。 Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is it is always up to the children to help themselves。 This is a bit of a double edged sword, on the one hand, you want it to be about the kids and you want them to be the ones to solve the problems, on the other hand, every adult they come across in the series are either incompetent idiots or malicious fiends。There isn't anything terribly clever about the plot, but the writing is clever, Mr。 Snicket's style is what makes these books。I think I've had enough of his style, though my boy is still enjoying them so we will carry on。 。。。more

"The Hostile Hospital"is certainly something else。 The hospital is strange; from the location, to the way it's run, to the fact that so much dangerous stuff can go on right in plain sight。 Snicket takes something that most people trust and feel safe in, hospitals, and makes it dark and terrifying。 I wish the Baudelaire's had gotten more time to explore the hospital and see if they can find mysteries relating to other people, not just themselves。 I feel like they could have found some interesting "The Hostile Hospital"is certainly something else。 The hospital is strange; from the location, to the way it's run, to the fact that so much dangerous stuff can go on right in plain sight。 Snicket takes something that most people trust and feel safe in, hospitals, and makes it dark and terrifying。 I wish the Baudelaire's had gotten more time to explore the hospital and see if they can find mysteries relating to other people, not just themselves。 I feel like they could have found some interesting stuff。 It makes you wonder: what other secrets are hiding around the Heimlich Hospital?(Spoilers in the next two paragraphs) My favorite thing about this book is how intense it is and how high the stakes are。 This is something I also praised in the previous book, "The Vile Village," so I'm glad the this book follows that pattern。 The Baudelaire's go through quite a bit in this book, and the second half of the story is rather terrifying。 Although, in my opinion, "The Wide Window" is the scariest book of the series, this one is the runner up, and impacted me much more my second read through。 What happens to Violet is horrifying, and it shocked me how no bystander in the hospital saw anything wrong with what Count Olaf was doing to her。 The suspense as Klaus and Sunny tried to stall the operation was intense, and it took all my strength to not peek ahead and see when it was over。 And of course, even after Violet was saved, the fire was also awful。 For all we know, many innocent patients could have been killed or injured in the process。One thing I was on the fence about was the hospital itself。 It's very strange, and it's almost as if Snicket purposely wrote the hospital in an ironic way, and made the Heimlich Hospital be he absolute opposite of what a real hospital should be。 For one, the location。 Most hospitals are closer to where people are living, and they aren't far out of the way, or in the middle of nowhere, like the Heimlich Hospital。 Two, the Heimlich Hospital isn't even completely built, which seems irresponsible and hazardous。 If the rest of the building was complete they could have room for more patients。 Three, the security is awful。 No real hospital would let someone like Count Olaf in for no reason。 And it's hilarious how someone like Esme could walk in with literal knives attached to her shoes! When I was in the hospital they confiscated almost everything from me out of safety。 I don't know how any real hospital could have allowed that。 Fourth, and finally, the staff at the hospital are incredible naive。 They don't question anything, not even clearly malicious, unprofessional, and dangerous things。 They also don't turn a head when they see a child and a literal baby walking around, impersonating doctors。 I know that the troupe in these books is that the adults are rather ditzy and stupid, but it makes me feel concerned for the fictional patients at this hospital。 If the staff is so naive, then how can I trust that the patients are being taken care of properly?I wanted to mention that another strong point of this book is how it really starts to answer some of the series's nagging questions, and it even opens up some more。 I enjoy how the later books provide so much critical information, and this book is no exception。 At the point the series is really shifting and the Baudelaire's are taking things in their own hands。 They are no longer being shuttled from guardian to guardian, with Count Olaf following。 It's now getting to the point where they're following him。 It's a wonderful and interesting shift, and it changes the old pattern that separates the first half of the series from the last。This really is a fun and exciting book with twists and turns as the stakes get higher and higher。 It really takes the series in a new and refreshing direction。 The second half of this book is particularly thrilling and exciting, and anyone who is interested in more high-stake and high-action books will enjoy this book a lot。 I enjoy this book myself, and I also enjoy how strange and mysterious the Heimlich Hospital, and the information it holds, is。 。。。more

This one is it。 This is the turning point where the kids full on pivot into the chaos。 The end of the last book, they did something that was shocking, but made sense。 They started deceiving in the end of the last book as well, but again, it was something that they had to do to get things done。 But this is where they were more self-aware of it and were doing self-examination。 Children this young should not have to go through this type of trauma, but it really does happen (obviously not this sever This one is it。 This is the turning point where the kids full on pivot into the chaos。 The end of the last book, they did something that was shocking, but made sense。 They started deceiving in the end of the last book as well, but again, it was something that they had to do to get things done。 But this is where they were more self-aware of it and were doing self-examination。 Children this young should not have to go through this type of trauma, but it really does happen (obviously not this severe), but children have to make moral decisions and then question their moral character。 While they are outrageous and so much going on in these books, they have deep underlying parts。 I love that。 。。。more

The disbelief is really played up in this one, maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much。 I liked the Netflix adaptation a bit more。 I'm determined to finish this series however, so I will put up with the nonsense for a while longer。 It is enjoyable when one is in the right mood。 The disbelief is really played up in this one, maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much。 I liked the Netflix adaptation a bit more。 I'm determined to finish this series however, so I will put up with the nonsense for a while longer。 It is enjoyable when one is in the right mood。 。。。more

i liked it because they had to work with what they got in the hospital。 They had to sleep at the unfinished half of the hospital because they could not get Mr Poe to come and get them。 Count Olaf almost was able to get their money。

Dear reader, By now you must know that cheerfulness is not a cure for illness and that people are very suggestible。 P。S。 I have the horribly cheerful (and macabre) Volunteers Fighting Disease song stuck in my head 😬

I feel like these stories are dragging on a bit now, as much as I like libraries, with the odd bit of mystery solving happening to keep you reading but mauve it was just the setting that was a bit boring and the different tact at the end of the book will prove interesting。

Started the Netflix series upon starting this book and I find it fascinating to see how the depiction of the show compares with the books and what I've envisioned in my mind。 This hospital part of the series will be an interesting one, and my heart goes out to Violet。 Started the Netflix series upon starting this book and I find it fascinating to see how the depiction of the show compares with the books and what I've envisioned in my mind。 This hospital part of the series will be an interesting one, and my heart goes out to Violet。 。。。more

Good! The story seems a bit more narrow and less encompassing than some prior, but the focus of the story made up for it。 The plot goes to some seriously dark depths, and embraces a less formulaic story than most of its predecessors。

The most absurd hospital that can exist, where even a little girl can pretend to be a doctor。 I'm sorry but I didn't like this book very much, even if I'm willing to accept nonsense。 It seems that in these books on the Baudelaires there is not even an intelligent adult, if they are not completely idiots they cannot exist。 At this point the most intelligent character is Olaf, even if he is a bad actor he always deceives everyone and finds orphans wherever they go。Unfortunately this story has become too long and is therefore boring。 。。。more

I read this book first, completely out of sequence, because I didn't realize it was a whole series。 Apparently it was good enough to prompt me to read the whole series properly, and good enough to stand on its own as a book as opposed to a required continuation of a series。 It's been a long time so I can't properly review it but I remember enjoying this book。 I read this book first, completely out of sequence, because I didn't realize it was a whole series。 Apparently it was good enough to prompt me to read the whole series properly, and good enough to stand on its own as a book as opposed to a required continuation of a series。 It's been a long time so I can't properly review it but I remember enjoying this book。 。。。more
