Me gustó bastante， pese a que es un poco irregular， me explico: para ser un libro de divulgación tiene apartes demasiado técnicos en los que terminé pasando de puntillas。 Eso si， los apartes divulgativos llegan a ser incluso emocionantes。 Gran parte del libro me la pasé con un sentimiento de pesimismo respecto al futuro de la humanidad con la IAG， （cuasi spoilers） pero el libro termina con un refrescante optimismo al respecto。Creo que Max Tegmark tiene madera para escribir una novela sobre el te Me gustó bastante， pese a que es un poco irregular， me explico: para ser un libro de divulgación tiene apartes demasiado técnicos en los que terminé pasando de puntillas。 Eso si， los apartes divulgativos llegan a ser incluso emocionantes。 Gran parte del libro me la pasé con un sentimiento de pesimismo respecto al futuro de la humanidad con la IAG， （cuasi spoilers） pero el libro termina con un refrescante optimismo al respecto。Creo que Max Tegmark tiene madera para escribir una novela sobre el tema， por ejemplo una basada en el equipo Omega :-P No me gustó que el libro acaba en el 78% de las páginas， el restante 22% se va en agradecimientos y cosas de esas。 。。。more

Good for an introduction to lay people。 If you work with AI， this will probably bore you。The book contains a fair amount of short sci-fi stories to illustrate a few scenarios （with a whole lot of speculation）。 Another big part of the book are the personal stories and the journey of the author to kick-start AI safety research and make it mainstream。The tone ist mindfully optimistic， even though the book shows a lot of possible pitfalls to be aware of。

If your idea of the future of AI is some dystopian nightmare where evil robots have enslaved humanity， you have a very wrong picture of things。 That's what has been depicted in movies like Terminator but then again there's a reason they're called sci-fi。 The future is ripe with countless possibilities。 Our species has been continuously improving and with the kind of technological evolution that AI is expected to deliver （and has been doing so）， we possess the ability to ascend to further heights If your idea of the future of AI is some dystopian nightmare where evil robots have enslaved humanity， you have a very wrong picture of things。 That's what has been depicted in movies like Terminator but then again there's a reason they're called sci-fi。 The future is ripe with countless possibilities。 Our species has been continuously improving and with the kind of technological evolution that AI is expected to deliver （and has been doing so）， we possess the ability to ascend to further heights （literally and figuratively）。Superintelligence is something that many of the great minds in the world agree will definitely happen。 When it will happen， is a matter of debate but one thing is certain: it won't be happening anytime soon。 （A few may beg to differ though。）We have built machines that have surpassed us in many aspects but the ultimate goal that remains is to create a truly superintelligent machine。 This is something that should excite us but for the most part， we remain skeptic and tend to think of the worst possible scenarios。 Of course， AI poses risks and there are things to be concerned about。 Even though our track record with death and destruction hasn't been entirely clean， we are still existing and have the ability to change things and overall， be good。 So instead of losing our senses over the concerns and making outlandish cries about how AI will doom us all， our focus should be on the measures that make AI safe and ethical。 It's a remarkable feat that the author himself， along with the help of many distinguished personalities， has given AI safety research a lot of traction through valuable meetings and setting up organisations for it。 Some of the commonly held notions towards AI definitely need to change。Whether you have doubts about AI or you wholeheartedly embrace it; as long as it is something you've had considerable thought about， you should get your hands on this book。 。。。more

This book provided several excellent frameworks for thinking about Artificial Intelligence。 Tegmark makes the subject completely accessible and invites the reader to join the conversation about what we want a world with AI to look like。 He does an excellent job of exploring many viewpoints and allowing all to be valid。 The world needs more writing like this。

Ok so I read this for an interview and I did actually， surprisingly， enjoy it。 Admittedly， parts went a little over my head but thats due to lack of focus on my part more than Tegmark， generally he explains concepts well and it was an interesting read。
