Picked this up because I never played the game, but this was one everyone talked about。 Now I just want to play the game

。。。more

I felt that the Majora's Mask story was adapted really well。 I was curious to see how they handled the time travel element but I liked where they went with it。 It did feel a tad bit too short for me though。I preferred the A Link to the Past story。 I have never played the game so the story was fresh and brand new for me。 I felt the story was a lot more interesting and I really enjoyed Link's character。 I felt that the Majora's Mask story was adapted really well。 I was curious to see how they handled the time travel element but I liked where they went with it。 It did feel a tad bit too short for me though。I preferred the A Link to the Past story。 I have never played the game so the story was fresh and brand new for me。 I felt the story was a lot more interesting and I really enjoyed Link's character。 。。。more

I think I need more nostalgia for all of this。 As it is, I'm reading in a format I'm not familiar with, with a narrative I'm not familiar with, and it just made me want to play the game instead。 If I had played the game before perhaps I would be noticing little expansions。 Then again it's possible I'd notice it's just a straight up rehash。 I think this was probably just too far outside my current interests。 It did make me want to play the game though so it's not bad。 I think I need more nostalgia for all of this。 As it is, I'm reading in a format I'm not familiar with, with a narrative I'm not familiar with, and it just made me want to play the game instead。 If I had played the game before perhaps I would be noticing little expansions。 Then again it's possible I'd notice it's just a straight up rehash。 I think this was probably just too far outside my current interests。 It did make me want to play the game though so it's not bad。 。。。more

Good manga, but poor Zelda story。 I recall the story of Majora's Mask being grandier。 And didn't particularly like the A Link to the Past story。The drawings and coloring are fantastic and character design is brilliant。But that's about it, sadly。If you like old fashioned manga stories, you'll love this one。 If you are a fan of Zelda, not so much。But it's still a good book。 3/5 for me。 Good manga, but poor Zelda story。 I recall the story of Majora's Mask being grandier。 And didn't particularly like the A Link to the Past story。The drawings and coloring are fantastic and character design is brilliant。But that's about it, sadly。If you like old fashioned manga stories, you'll love this one。 If you are a fan of Zelda, not so much。But it's still a good book。 3/5 for me。 。。。more

I think it's more of a two star but I don't have the heart to give it two。 It's jarring cuts keeping it from running smoothly。 Let's see where it worked and where didn't it。I need to say;Coming off part 1 and 2 off The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Part 2 I didn't notice the transition into the updated series。 The Legendary Edition series is cohesively busted。 CoverHonestly this cover is way too nice and sophisticated for what I expected。 It's based on a video game I'll give it credit there I think it's more of a two star but I don't have the heart to give it two。 It's jarring cuts keeping it from running smoothly。 Let's see where it worked and where didn't it。I need to say;Coming off part 1 and 2 off The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Part 2 I didn't notice the transition into the updated series。 The Legendary Edition series is cohesively busted。 CoverHonestly this cover is way too nice and sophisticated for what I expected。 It's based on a video game I'll give it credit there is passion and soul in the book work but it's still a video game manga。 This is sit back with a pipe and reminisce nice。 It's gorgeous。 InteriorMajora's MaskI expected weird。 But I have to admit I didn't expect the story and pacing it actually had。 It had quite an emotional side stories。 Personally I think there is too much spirituality for my liking and it's sort of weird but I think Majora's mask always seemed like an odd ball。 I do like how it continues on from Ocarina of Time story line presenting Skull Kid at an early age。 A Link to the Past Really? I can't believe I'm going to be saying this but there should be a rule against adding a origin story into the middle of a book。 Just why? It's going to make the reader confused expecially if the first half is a polar opposite to the second story。 At least at the end of the story this is a different Link from a different time。 Another big issue is that it's really jarring。 As being the ninth book in the original series it feels tired and more disjointed maybe because they assume you'd know the story already。 This story really needed a part two to have the proper care taken into it。 Add more personality to the Ghanti and more of a connection to Link。 Even if she was more hard nosed and retorted back to Link in sections would have helped。 Also the journey and fights are cut way to much。 Comedy is completely gone for a more drama。 Which would have given a longer story more support to go on。 。。。more

I think I’m starting to rewire my brain for manga reading - just a little。 These stories were fun, and I especially liked how the Link to the Past story was fleshed out and given just a little more depth than was in the game。 For Majora’s Mask, I imagine it’s story must’ve been difficult to translate into novel form, what with the repeating three days and all, but I thought they did a good job with that, though I still prefer the game itself to the manga。 Their backstory for Majora was a cool ad I think I’m starting to rewire my brain for manga reading - just a little。 These stories were fun, and I especially liked how the Link to the Past story was fleshed out and given just a little more depth than was in the game。 For Majora’s Mask, I imagine it’s story must’ve been difficult to translate into novel form, what with the repeating three days and all, but I thought they did a good job with that, though I still prefer the game itself to the manga。 Their backstory for Majora was a cool addition as well, but I found it just a little unsatisfying - maybe not epic enough for such an evil character, but kudos to them for trying。 Oh, and it’s still bizarre for me to see Link actually speaking, but it felt more natural in the Link to the Past story for some reason。Overall, it’s delightful having these mangas around when even the games aren’t quite enough to satisfy the hunger for escaping unto Hyrule! 。。。more

Akira Himekawa is the pseudonym of a writer-artist manga team。 It seems Nintendo trusted them with coming up with their own stories to make the manga interesting on its own, yet still faithful enough to the series。 They expertly took into account how boring it would be to read about Link fighting hordes of monsters and solving puzzles inside of temples, and instead gave him a voice and introduced small interactions with other characters that add more content to the story; similar to how a movie Akira Himekawa is the pseudonym of a writer-artist manga team。 It seems Nintendo trusted them with coming up with their own stories to make the manga interesting on its own, yet still faithful enough to the series。 They expertly took into account how boring it would be to read about Link fighting hordes of monsters and solving puzzles inside of temples, and instead gave him a voice and introduced small interactions with other characters that add more content to the story; similar to how a movie would add something that isn’t explicit in a book。 Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda game, yet this manga rendition felt rushed, where Link only went through the motions yet missed out on the rich variety of character interactions in the game。 It’s no wonder this happened though, since Himekawa states that they were hired to create the manga even before the game was released, so they only had a few trailers and such to work with。 They make up for it in two ways though: 1) the first 18 pages of the manga are in full color, and 2) at the end, they included an original story about the origin of Majora’s Mask。 I don’t know if it’s considered canon by Nintendo, but it’s enjoyable anyway。 As for the A Link to the Past manga, it is worlds better。 The story, though appropriately condensed, has more substance when it comes to the characters。 They have meaningful interactions, inner turmoil, existential conflicts, and explicitly stated motivations that fuel the richness of the story。 If you’re a Zelda fan, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy in this manga。 It’s not boring just like reading a step-by-step playthrough of the game。 If you’re not a Zelda fan however, these stories might seem too rushed or lacking in substance to you。 Lastly, the back pages include an interview with Himekawa and Eiji Aonuma (one of the producers for the Legend of Zelda)。 They share an interesting tidbit about how the Rito in Wind Waker were partly influenced by an original story that Himekawa wrote for the Ocarina of Time manga。 。。。more

Much like the 'Ocarina of Time' manga, the ones for 'Majora's Mask' and 'A Link to the Past' are absolutely fantastic。Regarding Majora's Mask: they have adapted the game's story into a credible and emotional narrative thread in a very smart way。 Keeping the more important emotional beats (like Anju and Kafei's side-story) and streamlining some of the more 'game-like' parts (like all the dungeons), the manga feels like an accurate representation of the game, with enough differences to make it sta Much like the 'Ocarina of Time' manga, the ones for 'Majora's Mask' and 'A Link to the Past' are absolutely fantastic。Regarding Majora's Mask: they have adapted the game's story into a credible and emotional narrative thread in a very smart way。 Keeping the more important emotional beats (like Anju and Kafei's side-story) and streamlining some of the more 'game-like' parts (like all the dungeons), the manga feels like an accurate representation of the game, with enough differences to make it stand out。 Yes, it does feel less weird than the game, and yes, some of the more esoteric and darker aspects of the story have been left out, but apart from that, it's quite the entertaining read。Regarding A Link to the Past: once again, it's a very accurate representation of the game's story, although even more so than Majora's Mask, it's quite different from its source of inspiration。 There's more story and more character here than in the game (Link starts as an apple farmer, for example), and there's even an original character who, despite being a little annoying in the beginning (with dumb changes of motivation), eventually comes through。 There's action and there's some fun interplay between the characters。 My only complaint would be that the dungeons are barely even mentioned, more so than in Majora's Mask: they are rushed through, which makes them (and the hunt for the medallions) feel a little unimportant。 Apart from that, though, it's quite the interesting and entertaining manga。Oh, and the book comes with two bonus stories (one for each manga), as well as an interview between the authors and Eiji Aonuma, which took place just before the release of 'Twilight Princess', back in 2004。 。。。more

I have been a fan of the Legend of Zelda games for as long as I can really remember, so you can imagine that seeing that a manga existed for LoZ, I was exited, and I picked up this edition because it happened to include two of the 3 games (if I'm not mistaken) in the franchise that I haven't played at least a little。 With that, this review is based on the manga itself, not its playable counterpart。 I am again, a fan of the franchise but even then, I am not a immediate fan of everything that has I have been a fan of the Legend of Zelda games for as long as I can really remember, so you can imagine that seeing that a manga existed for LoZ, I was exited, and I picked up this edition because it happened to include two of the 3 games (if I'm not mistaken) in the franchise that I haven't played at least a little。 With that, this review is based on the manga itself, not its playable counterpart。 I am again, a fan of the franchise but even then, I am not a immediate fan of everything that has "Legend of Zelda" slapped on it。 I thing the medium for portraying the story though a game doesn't compare to this manga version。 The games are better, lemme tell you why。 The story and Link just feel like they are designed for a game story。 It feels shallow and like there is a lot of it that is just meant for someone that is playing the a game to fill in for themselves。 Link is running around, in this, acting (and partially because he is one) a kid but he has no depth to him, he just sorta runs around and is given the line we all know too well for going on a heroic quest he can only do。 It just feels iffy, almost like this manga was somewhat of a novelty for fans。 。。。more
