Summary

A classic picture book by Eric Carle - The Tiny Seed。

When the tiny seed is blown away from its parent plant, it travels a very long way - over seas, deserts and mountains。 The tiny seed survives the hazards of the journey and finally falls onto fertile earth。 It grows and grows, becoming the tallest, biggest flower for miles around。 Then one day the wind blows and thousands of the flower's seeds begin their own journeys。

Eric Carle is an internationally bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator of books for very young children。 Eric lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Barbara。 The Carles opened The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts in 2002。

This book was a fantastic read。 The illustrations are intriguing and have many beautiful details that help children understand the seasons and how they change。 The narrative of the story is focused on a tiny seed and how it grows。 This allowed opportunities for lots of questions to be both asked and answered。 The activity that followed reading this book was a cut and stick exercise of the main parts of the story。 The children then wrote a sentence to summarise what happened in their own words。 I This book was a fantastic read。 The illustrations are intriguing and have many beautiful details that help children understand the seasons and how they change。 The narrative of the story is focused on a tiny seed and how it grows。 This allowed opportunities for lots of questions to be both asked and answered。 The activity that followed reading this book was a cut and stick exercise of the main parts of the story。 The children then wrote a sentence to summarise what happened in their own words。 Imagination was vibrant in the classroom, and it was an excellent experience for the children to explore the seasons and learn about how the seed would change。 Following this activity was a chance to do some outdoor learning and think about retelling the story with the wind and the trees。 I highly recommend this book for KS1 children。 。。。more

Preschoolers loved this book! The beautiful illustrations and easy-to-understand narrative make it easy for students to understand the life cycle of a flower。 I coupled this with a sequencing activity。

I think this is a great book that you could bring in one teaching elementary school and teaching science。 It’s the lifecycle of a seed in a flower which could be really cool to bring into a lesson。 Overall the illustrations are very detailed in the story is simple into the point

This Eric Carle classic tells the story of a tiny sunflower seed。 The book teaches what a seed must go through to become a new flower。 They face birds, oceans, the sun, and many other dangers。 If they survive that then the face being trembled by children and picked for a loved one。 In the end the smallest seed id the one who prevails teaching a lesson of perseverance while also teaching about life cycles of flowers。

Grade Level: K-1 Genre: Informational Text I like this book。 I remember reading this book when I was a kid。 It would be a great addition to my classroom。 I like how you get to follow this tiny little seed around。 I also enjoyed the illustrations。

This book describes the life cycle of a seed。 It starts with the seed, which then is carried by the wind。 The seed is eventually planted, and when it grows, it has seeds of its own that travel in the wind。 The illustrations are bright and beautiful, and the story is extremely engaging。 Because of this, I gave this story five stars。 It is a perfect read for younger kids who are just beginning to learn about science。 It is a great read for those who teach students ages 5 to 7。

The illustrations in this book are very beautiful。 They could be taken out, framed and hung on the wall。 The book tells the journey of a seed and all the crazy places that it could end up。 Would recommend this book to teach children about plants。 Would double great with a science lesson。

Although put into a fun story, Eric Carle does a great job at explaining how seeds become flowers and how the flowers will produce seeds。 Specifically in this story, we follow a small seed, smaller than all of his friends, as he travels and grows into a big flower。 The flower watches as some of his friends do not make the journey to become beautiful flowers, but despite the odds, he is one of the few who make it。 I rate this book a five star because it is an intriguing story of the little seed。 Although put into a fun story, Eric Carle does a great job at explaining how seeds become flowers and how the flowers will produce seeds。 Specifically in this story, we follow a small seed, smaller than all of his friends, as he travels and grows into a big flower。 The flower watches as some of his friends do not make the journey to become beautiful flowers, but despite the odds, he is one of the few who make it。 I rate this book a five star because it is an intriguing story of the little seed。 It is a fun way to look at how plants are made, even if it has a few steps that aren't true for plants in the real world。 It is a great introduction to have children begin to think about how plants are really made。 。。。more

Text-to Teaching Connection: I really enjoyed reading this book! As a class I would do a year round project, how do the 4 season affect plant growth! Since school starts in the Fall we would start with the season。 We will plant seed during fall, winter, spring and summer。 We would use pictures, drawing and writing to document our findings!

I am surprised this has such good reviews。 I felt like I was reading something written by a 5th grader。 So many seeds meet unsavory endings, then it upbruolty ends。 😬

I think I am still too little for this book。 I love the drawings but it is quite long for me。 Mommy said we should read this again when I am older。*read when I was 2 years old

The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle is a nonfiction book for children in elementary school。 This story follows a group of seeds focusing, particularly on a tiny seed。 At first, the seeds are blown by the wind。 Some of them don’t make it。 The ones that survive settle under the snow。 In spring, the seeds take root and flourish into plants, but have to compete for water and sunlight。 At a couple points throughout the story, humans get in the way of the plants growing (by stomping or picking the plants)。 By The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle is a nonfiction book for children in elementary school。 This story follows a group of seeds focusing, particularly on a tiny seed。 At first, the seeds are blown by the wind。 Some of them don’t make it。 The ones that survive settle under the snow。 In spring, the seeds take root and flourish into plants, but have to compete for water and sunlight。 At a couple points throughout the story, humans get in the way of the plants growing (by stomping or picking the plants)。 By summer, the plant from the tiny seed has grown into a giant flower that’s visited by birds and insects。 By autumn, the giant flower from the little seed releases it’s own seeds into the wind。 I rated this story 3/5 because it accurately and artistically portrays the journey of a seed in a colorful depiction that’s appropriate for young readers。 I think it could have used more technical terms, for example the author said that birds and insects came to “visit” the giant flower rather than “pollinate” the flower。 The language is simple and describes the journey of the tiny seed in layman’s terms rather than technical terms。 The colorful illustrations are a mix of paint and collage set against a white background。 Some of the pages are text heavy, so when working with children I think it would be best to show the pictures while reading。 This book would be appealing to children who are learning about the life cycle of a seed and would pair nicely with an activity where they get to watch their own seeds grow。 。。。more

This book follows the journey a tiny seed goes on to become a plant。This book would be good for teaching children about seed dispersion and the conditions needed for a plant to grow。 Children could grow their own plants as part of a plants topic (I would say the plant in the book seems a bit like a sunflower so I personally would grow these) and children can make sure all the conditions for growth are met。 This could be extended to house learning when the plants go home with the children and the This book follows the journey a tiny seed goes on to become a plant。This book would be good for teaching children about seed dispersion and the conditions needed for a plant to grow。 Children could grow their own plants as part of a plants topic (I would say the plant in the book seems a bit like a sunflower so I personally would grow these) and children can make sure all the conditions for growth are met。 This could be extended to house learning when the plants go home with the children and they can have a sunflower competition to see who can grow the tallest flower。 。。。more

While first reading this book I did not realize how big of a message there would be。 The book has so much versatility as it can be taught as a Science lesson with Kindergarteners or 1st graders and it can also be read to show that even the smallest and the biggest underdogs can still pull through as long as they have the heart and desire。

For a book to be informational, it was also really good! It wasn’t boring even though it was full of facts, I love that about a book!

Bright, happy early learning from this story of a seed's journey, with amazing collage artistically designed illustrations, showcasing the words。 Captivating tale of how a tiny seed survives the harsh elements of sun, wind, water to plant in the earth。 Interesting way to learn about the four seasons and how they are part of the growth of plants, each in a unique way。 The story comes full circle, for new seeds to journey。 Bright, happy early learning from this story of a seed's journey, with amazing collage artistically designed illustrations, showcasing the words。 Captivating tale of how a tiny seed survives the harsh elements of sun, wind, water to plant in the earth。 Interesting way to learn about the four seasons and how they are part of the growth of plants, each in a unique way。 The story comes full circle, for new seeds to journey。 。。。more

This is a very good and educational resource that will also attract to the upper ks1 and lower ks2。 It is rather long and some of the children may find it difficult to pay attention and engaged for this period of time。 It has very clear links to science through plants and growth and is a beautiful story of the journey representing the timeline of a seed across different seasons。
