Summary

What happens when you mix 1 (accidental) murder with 2 thousand wedding guests, and then toss in a possible curse on 3 generations of an immigrant Chinese-Indonesian family?

You get 4 meddling Asian aunties coming to the rescue!

When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body。 Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline。 It's the biggest job yet for the family wedding business—"Don't leave your big day to chance, leave it to the Chans!"—and nothing, not even an unsavory corpse, will get in the way of her auntie's perfect buttercream flowers。

But things go from inconvenient to downright torturous when Meddy's great college love—and biggest heartbreak—makes a surprise appearance amid the wedding chaos。 Is it possible to escape murder charges, charm her ex back into her life, and pull off a stunning wedding all in one weekend?

Cute。 A bit unbelievable and definitely Weekend at Bernie’s vibes but funny -hopefully would make a good rom com。 Appreciate Asian aspects of the book-not one that would really appeal to teens。

was excited for an overly silly fun romp but unfortunately, the writing in this was too poor to fully get behind/enjoy。 the flashback chapters in the first half really killed the mood and I wish it had been funnier :( I'm excited for the Netflix adaptation tho bc I think it'll make a good movie was excited for an overly silly fun romp but unfortunately, the writing in this was too poor to fully get behind/enjoy。 the flashback chapters in the first half really killed the mood and I wish it had been funnier :( I'm excited for the Netflix adaptation tho bc I think it'll make a good movie 。。。more

3。5 stars。 This was an enjoyable, totally chaotic, offbeat romcom。 The publisher bills it as part murder mystery, part romcom, part celebration of mothers/daughters。。。 I thought it was pretty light on mystery and also on romance (there were a couple steamy scenes that honestly felt out of place), but definitely a celebration of family。 I will be shocked if it's not made into a movie。 It was a little repetitive, especially in the second half, but overall a fun read/listen (the audiobook narrator 3。5 stars。 This was an enjoyable, totally chaotic, offbeat romcom。 The publisher bills it as part murder mystery, part romcom, part celebration of mothers/daughters。。。 I thought it was pretty light on mystery and also on romance (there were a couple steamy scenes that honestly felt out of place), but definitely a celebration of family。 I will be shocked if it's not made into a movie。 It was a little repetitive, especially in the second half, but overall a fun read/listen (the audiobook narrator was great)。 。。。more

This book was a fun escape (especially as an audiobook) and a wild ride。 As long as you know going into it that it’s purposefully over the top, a bit unrealistic, and at times quite silly, you’ll love it too。 What an entertaining read for summer! It had me laughing out loud during many a long walk。

This was just so funny and delightful。 I loved it。

Phenomenal! It’s as plausible as “Weekend at Bernie’s” but just as much fun。 Actually, probably more fun。 This book contains one of the funniest scenes I have read in ages。 I found myself going back and re-reading it a few times and it still made me laugh out loud every time。 I am delighted there will be a sequel, although I don’t know how the author will top this ridiculously entertaining story。

What It’s About: Meddy Chan is the photographer for her family’s wedding business。 The night before a huge job, she’s set up on a date with the owner of the wedding venue。 Things go from awkward to awful when Meddy accidentally kills her date。 Unable to contact the police, Meddy turns to her family for help and hilarity ensues。What I Liked: This book is completely goofy and so much fun! The plot is over-the-top crazy。 It was impossible to anticipate what would happen next。 The rivalries between the aunties are entertaining, but the love between the family members is always clear。 It found it really interesting to learn a little about the characters’ culture and the different aspects of Chinese-Indonesian weddings。 On the whole, the book reminded me of a soap opera, except it was laugh-out-loud funny。 What I Didn’t Like: The way the corpse is treated throughout the novel shows little regard for the dead man。 I was able to suspend belief on that part of the story, but I can see where it might bother some readers。 。。。more

I know I'm in the minority here, so take this review with a grain of salt。 Maybe it was because I read it while my in-laws were in town。 Maybe it's because it was graduation week。 Maybe it's because literally everyone I know said it's the best book ever and I'd love it。 I don't know。 I just didn't have that A-HA reaction that everyone else did while reading this。 I think maybe part of it is the suspension of disbelief you have to go along with for so long on this one。 A dead body。 Being funny。 A I know I'm in the minority here, so take this review with a grain of salt。 Maybe it was because I read it while my in-laws were in town。 Maybe it's because it was graduation week。 Maybe it's because literally everyone I know said it's the best book ever and I'd love it。 I don't know。 I just didn't have that A-HA reaction that everyone else did while reading this。 I think maybe part of it is the suspension of disbelief you have to go along with for so long on this one。 A dead body。 Being funny。 And being dragged all over the place。 It just was odd for me。 And some of the catty humor I just didn't click with。 I don't have a huge family, so maybe I just didn't get all the extra cast members in this one。 It was cute and a unique premise, so definitely worth the read。 Just not my favorite。 I also read three other Romcoms this past week so maybe I was just tapped out。 (I totally LOVED Twice ShyTwice Shy and Second First ImpressionsSecond First Impressions, by the way, so check out those reviews!)To read more reviews, head over TO MY BLOG。Or see what I'm currently reading over on my INSTAGRAM PAGE。 And now you can even follow my book chats on my BOOKTUBE CHANNEL! 。。。more

I am not exactly sure what genre this book is because it is part rom-com and part murder/crime drama。 The plot is extremely far-fetched。 The main character, Meddy Chan, and her Aunties try to get rid of the body that Meddy accidentally killed。 What I loved about the book is the bond Meddy had with her mother and aunts。 Their love is so strong that they would do anything to protect each other including covering up a murder all the while trying to help Meddy find the man of her dreams。 The best pa I am not exactly sure what genre this book is because it is part rom-com and part murder/crime drama。 The plot is extremely far-fetched。 The main character, Meddy Chan, and her Aunties try to get rid of the body that Meddy accidentally killed。 What I loved about the book is the bond Meddy had with her mother and aunts。 Their love is so strong that they would do anything to protect each other including covering up a murder all the while trying to help Meddy find the man of her dreams。 The best part of the book is the bickering between the Aunties。 There were times they made me laugh out loud! Sutanto's latest book is a quick and fun summer read that I easily breezed through, but gave it a 3。5 stars because some of the dialogue between the main character, Meddy, and her aunts, as well as the plot dragged on and seemed unrealistic。 But I loved how Sutanto put a spotlight on the Chinese-Indonesian culture, and described a crazy family similar to mine。 Sutanto's latest book is a quick and fun summer read that I easily breezed through, but gave it a 3。5 stars because some of the dialogue between the main character, Meddy, and her aunts, as well as the plot dragged on and seemed unrealistic。 But I loved how Sutanto put a spotlight on the Chinese-Indonesian culture, and described a crazy family similar to mine。 。。。more

"Your aunties coming over, so late at night, coming to help us get rid of body, and we don’t even offer them any food?"In Dial A for Aunties, Meddy has her work cut out for her。 She accidentally killed her blind-date and her mom and aunties are trying to cover up the murder。 At the same time, they are also trying to do their jobs at a wedding that are going to make or break their career。 And if that wasn't enough, Meddy has also bumped into her ex-boyfriend that she has been in love with for the "Your aunties coming over, so late at night, coming to help us get rid of body, and we don’t even offer them any food?"In Dial A for Aunties, Meddy has her work cut out for her。 She accidentally killed her blind-date and her mom and aunties are trying to cover up the murder。 At the same time, they are also trying to do their jobs at a wedding that are going to make or break their career。 And if that wasn't enough, Meddy has also bumped into her ex-boyfriend that she has been in love with for the past four years, and she desperately wants to win him back。I think that if you want the definition for batshit crazy, then you pretty much have it here in this book。 The events here feel like a car is on fire, but we still decide to drive it around。 And it works beautifully! The novel is absolutely hilarious。 Probably because Meddy knows that these events are neither normal nor realistic, but she still has to deal with it。 I was almost considering tagging this as horror because with another writing tone, this would have been a very, very dark story。But I was laughing so much。 Meddy and her family are just the best! The love and hate they all have for each other; that all big families have for each other, was so well described。 At first, I was a bit confused with all of the aunties, but they were just all brought so alive that I was totally sucked into the story。 And it is so sweet how they just decide to help Meddy with covering it up, no questions asked。 They were 110% on board while Meddy was just desperately trying to cope with everything going on。 And Nathan and Meddy's relationship was so cute; I just adored all of their interactions。I really hope that there will be more books with these characters, but regardless I am definitely going to read whatever Sutanto next writes, and if something should be dramatised for a fun rom-com slash crime show, then this definitely gets my vote。 It would be work beautifully as a TV-show; I would have just as good a time watching this as I had reading it。 。。。more

Love the rep in this! But i would have to say this is more murder/mystery/light crime story than cute contemporary romantic romance。 I loved Nathan and her but i wish we focused more on them together than the body and the family

OMG this book was soo fun to read。 The banter between the four aunties was soo cute and realistic。 Being from a indian family I kinda get the whole rivelry between cousins。 I actually didn't expect a few twists in the book。 The story is about Meddy who is a wedding photographer and part of the family wedding business run by her mom and aunts。 Her mom sets her up on a date by pretending to be her on a dating app。 While she is shocked by her mother's actions, she still goes on the date。 Circumstan OMG this book was soo fun to read。 The banter between the four aunties was soo cute and realistic。 Being from a indian family I kinda get the whole rivelry between cousins。 I actually didn't expect a few twists in the book。 The story is about Meddy who is a wedding photographer and part of the family wedding business run by her mom and aunts。 Her mom sets her up on a date by pretending to be her on a dating app。 While she is shocked by her mother's actions, she still goes on the date。 Circumstances lead to the situation where she has to taser the guy and he ends up dead。 In such situation she takes the help of the only people she could trust her mom and her aunt's (well only her who in turn calls all others but still)。 The whole story revolves around how they are trying to manage a wedding while trying to also hid or more like dispose of the body。 The only reason I cut one star is because I felt the romance between both the main characters was quick, like quick to forgive, quick to move onn。 Meddy did break up with him by giving him a shitty reason。 I felt as though Meddy needed to properly explain why she did what she did and Nathan could have not forgiven her soo soon。 I mean if anyone had done that to me there would be residual bitterness。 But that wasn't the case with Meddy and Nathan, they both saw each other and then Nathan just forgave her。 I felt there could have been a little bit a tiny tiny bit confrontation。 All and all it was funnny great book to read。 。。。more

This is the most fun you can have with a dead body! (Insert rolling on the floor laughing emoji here。) I laughed out loud all the way through this story。 It just kept getting more and more ridiculous and hilarious。 I got serious "Weekend at Bernie's" vibes but even sillier, with a group of middle-aged South Asian aunties instead of young men。 The aunties are some of the best characters I've come across in fiction and while part of me would love to have them in my family, a part of me is really g This is the most fun you can have with a dead body! This book was super cute and quirky。 Would definitely recommend this as a light vacation read on the plane, car or at the beach! I never thought an accidental death plot could be so funny。 You have to suspend belief a little bit throughout because I kept saying to myself, "well if there were security cameras anywhere this would have not gone down the way it did," but other than that, I had a great time reading Dial A for Aunties and will be picking up the sequel。 This book was super cute and quirky。 Would definitely recommend this as a light vacation read on the plane, car or at the beach!
