Summary

"A skillfully plotted mystery, bursting with the glare and feverish energy of its summer amusement park setting。 The atmosphere creeps up on you。。。[and] dark secrets await。"--Holly Jackson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

For fans of Sadie and One of Us Is Lying comes a thriller about a boy who turns up dead under suspicious circumstances and the one girl who may be the key to solving the mystery of his untimely death。

For Ivy, summer means roller-coaster season, spinning cotton candy at the Fabuland amusement park, and hanging out with her best friend, Morgan。 But this summer is different。

One morning, Morgan finds a dead body。 It's their former classmate Ethan, who was alive and working at Fabuland only the day before。 To make matters worse, Morgan is taken to a hospital psych ward only days later, and she's not saying much--not even to Ivy。

The police claim that Ethan simply took a bad fall, but Ivy isn't convinced and realizes it's up to her to get answers。 What she finds is unsettling--it's clear that some people aren't being honest about Ethan's last night at Fabuland。 Including Morgan。 And the more secrets Ivy uncovers, the closer she gets to unraveling dark truths that will change her life forever。

"A dark and timely thriller。"-Amelia Brunskill, author of The Window

Great book! It is not very much of a thriller but still good

After reading other reviews for this, I realize my thoughts and opinions on this book were valid。 At first I thought I was just being picky。 It's like the story wanted so hard to be two different things and it didn't work。 The main character is annoying and she goes all Nancy Drew, something no one asked for。 It's cringeworthy at times and way too obvious。 I enjoyed some parts but overall it was just okay。 After reading other reviews for this, I realize my thoughts and opinions on this book were valid。 At first I thought I was just being picky。 It's like the story wanted so hard to be two different things and it didn't work。 The main character is annoying and she goes all Nancy Drew, something no one asked for。 It's cringeworthy at times and way too obvious。 I enjoyed some parts but overall it was just okay。 。。。more

I really liked this book! Honestly, I went in not expecting much but this exceeded my expectations。Throughout the book, we follow main character Ivy in her quest to find answers about Ethan's death。 We learn about her repressed trauma and that everything is not as it seems。 This book deals with mental illness very well and took many surprising turns that I was not expecting。I will say that this book starts off kind of slow。 It took me a while to get into it, but the climax was so worth it。 I lov I really liked this book! It was a easy read, but didn't keep me hooked or anything。 Liked the plot, but that's all I have to say about it actually。 It just wasn't that interesting or exciting or mysterious or scary or something like that。 It was a easy read, but didn't keep me hooked or anything。 Liked the plot, but that's all I have to say about it actually。 It just wasn't that interesting or exciting or mysterious or scary or something like that。 。。。more

Loved the cover, which attracted me to this book, a dark gritty story of family dynamics, Ivy returning home。 Her best friend is having a breakdown finding a employee of the amusement park dead, underlying secrets and lies peruse through the story , what is the real truth?

All The Pretty Things by Emily Arsenault follows the story of Ivy, the daughter of Fabuland owner and Fabuland employee, who makes it her personal mission to find out what happen the night that former classmate and coworker, Ethan, was found dead by Ivy’s best friend Morgan。 The synopsis of this book intrigued me and promised a thriller/mystery。 I was craving a good thriller so obviously I was excited and expecting a lot from this book, but sadly this book just left me bored and disappointed。 Th All The Pretty Things by Emily Arsenault follows the story of Ivy, the daughter of Fabuland owner and Fabuland employee, who makes it her personal mission to find out what happen the night that former classmate and coworker, Ethan, was found dead by Ivy’s best friend Morgan。 The synopsis of this book intrigued me and promised a thriller/mystery。 I was craving a good thriller so obviously I was excited and expecting a lot from this book, but sadly this book just left me bored and disappointed。 This book was predictable and ended up following plot lines that weren’t at all related to the synopsis。 The characters in this story had absolutely no depth and every chapter seemed to be the exact same thing, just with a new side character talking with Ivy。 The ending was written to be fast paced and exciting, but ultimately it was just weird and focused more on how creepy Ivy’s dad was than what happened with Ethan, even though that ‘mystery’ was explained and ended up just showing how much of a jerk Ivy’s dad was。 I’m disappointed by how awful this book was towards the end and how it wasn’t really a thriller or a mystery。 I personally would not recommend this book。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked it! Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it。 I kind of liked how Ivy’s thoughts were jumping to these conclusions only for them to not be right in the end。 And for her to be looking for answers when she was overlooking other problems going on。 So overall I liked this read。 I thought the amusement park setting was something I hadn’t come across before but really ended up enjoying!

Great young adult book。 Lots of twists and turns。 A Murder, not a murder? Abusive husband? Sec with a minor? All questions answered before it ends。。。。。。

I'm not sure what to say about this book。 I thought the story was interesting in concept but the ending was horribly rushed and it was all too predictable。 I thought the writing was weird and awkward and overall not a great read。 There were potholes that never really got addressed which bothered me。 Don't really recommend this。 I'm not sure what to say about this book。 I thought the story was interesting in concept but the ending was horribly rushed and it was all too predictable。 I thought the writing was weird and awkward and overall not a great read。 There were potholes that never really got addressed which bothered me。 Don't really recommend this。 。。。more

WTF did I just read?!?!? I'm sorry, but this book is NOTHING like its blurb suggests。 It's almost as if it has two separate plots, and *one* is very anticlimactic。 The other 。 。 。 Why are we just going through this book and acting like the dad is not a major creep?!?! Like, how is any of his behavior okay?! Like this guy is a straight up pervert, misogynist, and general dick。 WTF did I just read?!?!? This book really wasn’t for me。 I found myself bored pretty much throughout。 A lot of filler was in there that wasn’t really great or added anything。 I did like the setting, reminded me of all the times I would go to amusement parks and had a blast。

The summary of what the book was about on the back cover was pretty misleading。 Yes, it does talk about the death of Ethan, a down syndrome boy who works at the amusement park, but that is not what the thriller or mystery is about。 It really wasn't much of a mystery to me and everything pretty much unfolded in the last 50 pages of the book。 I wish it would have given more clues and evidence throughout the book instead of just having Ivy, the daughter of the amusement park owner, just being the d The summary of what the book was about on the back cover was pretty misleading。 Yes, it does talk about the death of Ethan, a down syndrome boy who works at the amusement park, but that is not what the thriller or mystery is about。 It really wasn't much of a mystery to me and everything pretty much unfolded in the last 50 pages of the book。 I wish it would have given more clues and evidence throughout the book instead of just having Ivy, the daughter of the amusement park owner, just being the detective throughout the book with no real reason behind what she's doing what she's doing。 Everything kind of intertwined, but I felt like many parts of the book just came out of no where and made it confusing what was going on。 It was okay, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone unless you want to read a not super thrilling, thriller。 。。。more

All the Pretty Things is a straightforward mystery。 Ivy works at her father's amusement park during the summer, and everything falls apart when one of the employees ends up dead。 Most of the people in the community think that Ethan, a young man with Down's Syndrome, got confused and fell to his death from a bridge。 Ivy thinks that something more suspicious is going on, and is resolved to figure out what really happened to Ethan。While I think All the Pretty Things will appeal to fans of mystery, All the Pretty Things is a straightforward mystery。 Ivy works at her father's amusement park during the summer, and everything falls apart when one of the employees ends up dead。 Most of the people in the community think that Ethan, a young man with Down's Syndrome, got confused and fell to his death from a bridge。 Ivy thinks that something more suspicious is going on, and is resolved to figure out what really happened to Ethan。While I think All the Pretty Things will appeal to fans of mystery, there were some things that were pretty problematic for me。 First, I didn't fully believe Ivy's interest in solving the mystery。 Second, Ivy's father bothered me the whole story, and it was hard to watch Ivy ignore/excuse his behaviors。 Lastly, while the ending did sum things up in a realistic way, I don't feel like the characters fully understand the circumstances。 。。。more

This was okay。 Not great。 The main character was very annoying, and didn't really hold up to the depressing mystery。 If I'd liked her more, maybe this would have been more fun。 I only held out to find out what happened in the mystery。 This was okay。 Not great。 The main character was very annoying, and didn't really hold up to the depressing mystery。 If I'd liked her more, maybe this would have been more fun。 I only held out to find out what happened in the mystery。 。。。more

This book is incredible but oh boy is it mismarketed! If you pick this up expecting a YA thriller, you will be sorely disappointed。 A better way of describing it would be a dark contemporary。All the Pretty Things is the story of Ivy, the daughter of a theme park owner。 When one of the workers dies tragically and her friend seems badly affected by the incident, Ivy decides to investigate on her own。 Unfortunately Ivy is also dealing with family stuff and this is the real core of the story。 She ha This book is incredible but oh boy is it mismarketed! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Just no。。。。This book reminded me of books I read as a preteen - 80s books where YA was not that well thought out or complicated。 It was easy to read but other than hating every character in the book I had no interest in the things going on。The dad in the book from the get go was gross。 The trap set and ending again felt dated - tape recorders and stunts? There are cell phones and social media now which would have been so much more believable。 Pass!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was fine, at best。 Light on character development and the ending was pretty abrupt。 It felt like Morgan was basically irrelevant as a friend and really just thrown in there so that there would be more victims of harassment? And any regular mystery reader could've seen the ending from a mile away, maybe with the exception of how Ethan really died。 I feel like him dying in Fabuland was quite a stretch, done just to connect Mr。 Cork to both the sexual harassment and Ethan's death。 It was fine, at best。 Light on character development and the ending was pretty abrupt。 It felt like Morgan was basically irrelevant as a friend and really just thrown in there so that there would be more victims of harassment? Not a mind blowing mystery but a decent YA novel where the daughter of an amusement park owner begins investigating the death of one the of employees。 Her research spirals into her having to make a decision that will affect her family’s life forever。

Katey Outka

A heart-pounding mystery and a beautiful story about being a teenage girl, living up to your parents expectations, and growing up on your own terms, even when those around you may want you to speed up or slow down。

Monica

The book drags for a long while but makes up for it in the end。 Almost didnt make it there though。 Good story。
