Another win by Alexandra Penfold。 Authentic, multi-cultural, useful SEL, excellent lessons without ever preaching。 Perfect for preschool and up。

Sometimes we need help to understand our feelings and sometimes we need to think about others feelings。

A rhyming picture book about a group of children from a variety of backgrounds who decide to cleanup an area to create a play space。 It's a big job and there isn't much agreement about how to get the job done。 A much needed picture book that acknowledges the big feelings that get in the way of working together。 This will be a useful book to open discussions about conflict resolution。 Pair with Kamala and Maya's Big Idea by Meena Harris and Maybe Something Beautiful by F。 Isabel Campoy。 A rhyming picture book about a group of children from a variety of backgrounds who decide to cleanup an area to create a play space。 It's a big job and there isn't much agreement about how to get the job done。 A much needed picture book that acknowledges the big feelings that get in the way of working together。 This will be a useful book to open discussions about conflict resolution。 Pair with Kamala and Maya's Big Idea by Meena Harris and Maybe Something Beautiful by F。 Isabel Campoy。 。。。more

A diverse group of kids finds a vacant lot containing a lovely tree with a bunch of garbage piled around it。 Feelings about what to do with the space are the subject of this picture book about exploring emotions。 The rhyming text is spare, but the mixed media illustrations carry the weight and are full of joy and expression。 Readers will enjoy pointing out all of the diversity – skin colors show kids who are Black, Brown, White and Asian; one child uses a wheelchair and another uses a white cane A diverse group of kids finds a vacant lot containing a lovely tree with a bunch of garbage piled around it。 Feelings about what to do with the space are the subject of this picture book about exploring emotions。 The rhyming text is spare, but the mixed media illustrations carry the weight and are full of joy and expression。 Readers will enjoy pointing out all of the diversity – skin colors show kids who are Black, Brown, White and Asian; one child uses a wheelchair and another uses a white cane; there’s a girl in a hijab, a boy with a Sikh patka and another wearing a yarmulke; some kids are gender non-binary and there’s a set of twins。 What a lovely display of the many ways we can be。 A small black dog watches the activity, as kids’ feelings differ as to how to clean the lot, what to do with the large tire, and how to dispose of the junk。End pages offer a before and after scene of an urban neighborhood, with the front showing kids gazing at one another, and at the end they are waving, having accomplished a big project together。 The dust jacked has a great poster on the verso, showing the kids from the story modeling 15 differing emotions – a nice resource for a kindergarten classroom or a daycare center。I just wished the text could have been as robust and awesome as the illustrations。 。。。more

A group of children have plans to build a tree-house, but have to navigate some big feelings along the way。 This book is okay。 The rhyming text is straightforward and simple, but in a way so vague that most of the story-making has to happen through interpreting and discussing the illustrations—and the emotional arc taking place in the pictures is kind of disjointed as well。 A big question that I was left with was how was the child who uses a wheelchair (who's pictured in the book) going to be in A group of children have plans to build a tree-house, but have to navigate some big feelings along the way。 This book is okay。 The rhyming text is straightforward and simple, but in a way so vague that most of the story-making has to happen through interpreting and discussing the illustrations—and the emotional arc taking place in the pictures is kind of disjointed as well。 A big question that I was left with was how was the child who uses a wheelchair (who's pictured in the book) going to be included in the treehouse the crew is building together? The fact that this question goes unanswered isn't a reason not to read this book, but just an indication of how a critical reading is definitely called for here。 Also, on a less consequential note, there's an odd fold-out page that I couldn't figure out how to work into reading fluidly。 A better book for one-on-one reading with an adult who is prepared to facilitate social emotional learning and critical discussion。Themes: Emotions, Teamwork, FriendsAge range: Preschool-Kindergarten 。。。more

This is a great book showing a range of young children experiencing lots of 'big' feelings and how they learn to deal with those in everyday play situations。The children in the story experience feeling sad, angry, frustrated, happy and more but through the book they learn to identify their feelings, talk about them and emphasise with other children's feelings too。 They work together to come up with solutions through their play。There are great illustrations throughout the story and lovely rhyming This is a great book showing a range of young children experiencing lots of 'big' feelings and how they learn to deal with those in everyday play situations。The children in the story experience feeling sad, angry, frustrated, happy and more but through the book they learn to identify their feelings, talk about them and emphasise with other children's feelings too。 They work together to come up with solutions through their play。There are great illustrations throughout the story and lovely rhyming text that children will enjoy。This would be the perfect book to share in an early years setting to start discussions on the all important topics of sharing, including others and working together that come up on a daily basis! A great book promoting emotional literacy, inclusion and diversity。 I would recommend every school to buy a copy。 。。。more

I like that this book really tackles feelings in a way of talking and working and seeing it from a different perspective。 The art is fun and colorful, too!

What can we do?” And then comes up with simple solutions on how these can be tackled and over come。 It promotes problem solving and working together and is a book that acknowledges and names feelings, which helps children learn to understand them。 I think my little peeps in my setting would love this book and I think it will support them well in their Personal, Social, and Emotional development。 It is a book I plan to make know you my managers, as I think we need this for our setting。 。。。more

I was really excited to read this one because of my love for All Are Welcome, but don’t feel it’s a good fit for my intermediate students。 While it does a good job of naming feelings, I felt the suggestions for how to handle them were a bit oversimplified。 I did love the case covering, gatefold, end pages and bright illustrations, though。 Perhaps a good fit with early childhood/primary readers to get the SEL ball rolling。

This big is a great introduction to exposing children to different emotions they might feel。 I think this book could be a great discussion topic on emotions and asking the students the type of emotions they've felt relating to the book。 This big is a great introduction to exposing children to different emotions they might feel。 I think this book could be a great discussion topic on emotions and asking the students the type of emotions they've felt relating to the book。 。。。more

This is where the book helps children to identify with different emotions through the story and illustrations。 For example; feeling frustrated when something doesn't go according to plan。Feeling inspired when you see something you can create。Feeling Sad when all your friends are arguing or when you are being left out the group because you are different。Feeling Scared to do something。Feeling Excited as a new adventure awaits。 All these emotions are relatable to children and adults at some point。But it's about learning how to deal with those feelings, being kind to each other, working together and communicating and understanding it's ok to have different Feelings and that your not alone。 Big Feelings is an inspirational and uplifting book, that is perfect, for a story time read。 The illustrations are beautifully presented and really bring the story to life。 I loved that the Author was diverse with the characters。This book really needs to be in all Primary Schools as it would make  fantastic teaching material。Thank you to Bloomsbury Children's Books and Netgalley for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily。You can Find this Review and all my Other Reviews on My Blog :- https://dashfan81。blogspot。com/2021/0。。。 。。。more

Beautiful illustrations, extremely simplistic writing。This can be a good springboard for talking about feelings。

The creators of the warm and inviting picture book, All Are Welcome, tackle emotions in this title with illustrations created with acrylic paint, ink, crayon and collage with Adobe Photoshop。 In this timely and relevant story, several youngsters have ambitious plans for the day。 But as often happens, a conflict arises, and they have several choices。 They can simply stop what they are doing, argue, or just leave。 Or they can find a way to work things out as they acknowledge and sort out their fee The creators of the warm and inviting picture book, All Are Welcome, tackle emotions in this title with illustrations created with acrylic paint, ink, crayon and collage with Adobe Photoshop。 In this timely and relevant story, several youngsters have ambitious plans for the day。 But as often happens, a conflict arises, and they have several choices。 They can simply stop what they are doing, argue, or just leave。 Or they can find a way to work things out as they acknowledge and sort out their feelings and try to compromise in order to work together。 I appreciate that the children's feelings aren't dismissed, ignored or minimized since there are repetitive questions of "How can I/we help? What can I/we do?" (unpaged), useful responses that honor emotions while also looking forward to actions that can be taken。 While I'm not particularly enamored with the rhyming text, the idea of emotions that can be hard to express or understand will resonate with youngsters especially since there are many different reactions to the same events。 The illustrations make it clear that working together, these youngsters can solve the problems they have while making the world a better place simply by cleaning up one small but important space。 This one might be good to share as an example of conflict resolution and working together rather than against each other。 。。。more

Despite all the starred reviews, I feel like this one missed the mark with a message that is too general。 I would have liked to see it address strategies on how to manage these big feelings; that's what our students really need who struggle with this。 Despite all the starred reviews, I feel like this one missed the mark with a message that is too general。 I would have liked to see it address strategies on how to manage these big feelings; that's what our students really need who struggle with this。 。。。more

Using rhyme verse, a diverse group of kids encounter a variety of feelings as they try to improve a green space area in their neighborhood。 The book jacket is actually a poster of emotion words which can be helpful as kids negotiate vocabulary in their reading and writing。 There are a lot of feelings books but this might be a nice addition to a classroom collection。

The representation in this story is great。 While the words are simple, the ideas behind them are complicated for kiddos。 I felt that the simplified text offered lots of opportunity for discussion with a child while reading。 There is a lot going on in the pictures--another great element to spark discussion。My biggest criticism is that there is a pull out page that feels backwards, perhaps just a printing error。

I had such high expectations for this book considering how much I love All Are Welcome but, sadly, this book didn't live up to it's predecessor。 While this book has a great message, I think it's delivered a bit awkwardly。 I did really enjoy the variety of children included。 Such great diversity! Children experience real feelings in big ways! While spending a day in the park, a group of children encounter big feelings along the way。 Young readers will relate to the ups and downs of the day and be reminded that no matter what they are feeling, they are never alone。 Reviewer #25

The illustrations in this are fantastic, full of energy and kids reflecting diverse cultures, religions, races, and abilities。 They aptly depict some strategies for dealing with overwhelming emotions and the situations that provoke them: communication, compromise, collaboration, seeing things from another perspective。The text struggles to hold its own against such expressive images at times, but Big Feelings still offers parents, teachers, and librarians ample opportunities to help children conn The illustrations in this are fantastic, full of energy and kids reflecting diverse cultures, religions, races, and abilities。 They aptly depict some strategies for dealing with overwhelming emotions and the situations that provoke them: communication, compromise, collaboration, seeing things from another perspective。The text struggles to hold its own against such expressive images at times, but Big Feelings still offers parents, teachers, and librarians ample opportunities to help children connect to the insights offered by the words, the illustrations, or both taken together。 。。。more
