Summary

Yashiro is the young leader of Shinseikai and the president of the Shinseikai Enterprise, but like so many powerful men, he leads a double life as a deviant and a masochist。 Chikara Doumeki comes to work as a bodyguard for him and, although Yashiro had decided that he would never lay a hand on his own men, he finds there's something about Doumeki that he can't resist。 Yashiro makes advances toward Doumeki, but Doumeki has mysterious reasons for denying。

Yashiro, who abuses his power just to abuse himself, and Doumeki, who faithfully obeys his every command, begin the tumultuous affair of two men with songs in their hearts and no wings to fly。

The title intrigued me, so I got the manga, and, together with some of the chapter headings, discovered it reads like lost fragments of poetry。 I'm particularly taken with one heading:“Though they drift,They do not fly,But nor do they sing”That connector, “But,” does so much work, opens up so many possibilities for that phrase。Which doesn't say much about the manga itself, which is simultaneously strong and rough around the edges。 Yashiro is a young yakuza leader whose also a The title intrigued me, so I got the manga, and, together with some of the chapter headings, discovered it reads like lost fragments of poetry。 I'm particularly taken with one heading:“Though they drift,They do not fly,But nor do they sing”That connector, “But,” does so much work, opens up so many possibilities for that phrase。Which doesn't say much about the manga itself, which is simultaneously strong and rough around the edges。 Yashiro is a young yakuza leader whose also a sexual masochist, an openly passive male who publicly acknowledges wanting to be taken and taken rough。 That right there is an interesting plot twist。 The manga starts with an apparently different storyline from the one described on the back cover, but soon intricate threads are slowly woven together into a character driven plot that’s becomes a page-turner exploring Yashiro’s past and present; a pretty story it isn't。The art is rough around the edges, too, but Yoneda is an expert at developing mood, and the visual pacing is engrossing, again, pulling you from page to page。Uplifting, this isn't。 But I really want to see what happens in volume 2, which is already on my shelf。 。。。more

Actual rating: 2。5Ehhhhhh。 This is kinda confusing to follow and some of the characters are hard to differentiate。 Going to continue and hope it gets better…

At first I didn't really get the point and got a little tired of the manga, but closer to the end of volume 1 I kinda got attached to the characters and began to follow the story a little better。 At first I didn't really get the point and got a little tired of the manga, but closer to the end of volume 1 I kinda got attached to the characters and began to follow the story a little better。 。。。more

*Reread 4/17/2021*I finally got my hands on the physical copies so I'm rereading so I can hopefully get a better understanding of what the heck is happening。 It can be a little confusing at times because of the way the speech bubbles are it's hard to tell who is talking and then with the weird online translations it just made everything so confusing。 But I'm so ready to read this again, it's already a little easier to understand。 I really do like this series。 I love Yashiro and Doumeki so much。 *Reread 4/17/2021*I finally got my hands on the physical copies so I'm rereading so I can hopefully get a better understanding of what the heck is happening。 It can be a little confusing at times because of the way the speech bubbles are it's hard to tell who is talking and then with the weird online translations it just made everything so confusing。 But I'm so ready to read this again, it's already a little easier to understand。 I really do like this series。 I love Yashiro and Doumeki so much。 It's a weird story, kind of fucked story and definitely not for everyone, but it's really good。 *Original Review 3/28/2021*I think these kind of weird, fucked up Yakuza stories are some of my favorites。 Kind of the same vibe as Jealousy, but different。 I think the writing is a little confusing sometimes, but I'm really enjoying this。 I want to see Doumeki and Yashiro's strange relationship develop。 。。。more

This was an interesting start to a series I've always been meaning to read。 It's one of the classic Yaoi I've got on my Must-Read list, but it was a little more confusing than I expected。 The initial couple of the book seem to have had only one chapter dedicated to them, and then never reappeared again, which was surprising and confusing。 Yet, I do like the "main" couple and how interesting they are, both in dynamic and with their background stories。Triggers for historical sexual abuse by a fami This was an interesting start to a series I've always been meaning to read。 It's one of the classic Yaoi I've got on my Must-Read list, but it was a little more confusing than I expected。 The initial couple of the book seem to have had only one chapter dedicated to them, and then never reappeared again, which was surprising and confusing。 Yet, I do like the "main" couple and how interesting they are, both in dynamic and with their background stories。Triggers for historical sexual abuse by a family member, dub-con, and impotence。 。。。more

I jumped on this manga immediately after I finished the anime since I couldn't handle the ending。 Of course, I didn't get the answer to my questions right in this first volume but I got even more compelled to this dark and brutal story because of it。 I am so excited to read a BL manga about adult, grown men, with real, albeit dark, life setting。 I jumped on this manga immediately after I finished the anime since I couldn't handle the ending。 Of course, I didn't get the answer to my questions right in this first volume but I got even more compelled to this dark and brutal story because of it。 I am so excited to read a BL manga about adult, grown men, with real, albeit dark, life setting。 。。。more

I wasn't sure what to expect when this was recommended to me and all I can say is。。。wow。 Maybe one of the best mangas I've read。 It's very (very) dark, very sexually explicit, very violent and deals with a lot of traumatic themes。 So I won't say it's for everyone。 But the story slowly wraps itself around you and pulls you in。 Just beautiful。 I wasn't sure what to expect when this was recommended to me and all I can say is。。。wow。 Maybe one of the best mangas I've read。 It's very (very) dark, very sexually explicit, very violent and deals with a lot of traumatic themes。 So I won't say it's for everyone。 But the story slowly wraps itself around you and pulls you in。 Just beautiful。 。。。more

Somehow this manga failed to meet even my very low expectations。Juné Manga has been on the brink of bankruptcy for quite a few years (just Google about their Kickstarter money scams) and it's apparent in the quality of their books that they can't afford decent translators and editors anymore。 I have a second edition copy of Twittering Birds Never Fly volume 1, and it's still littered with bad grammar, misspellings, and just generally bad translations。The art in this manga is pretty good for the Somehow this manga failed to meet even my very low expectations。Juné Manga has been on the brink of bankruptcy for quite a few years (just Google about their Kickstarter money scams) and it's apparent in the quality of their books that they can't afford decent translators and editors anymore。 I have a second edition copy of Twittering Birds Never Fly volume 1, and it's still littered with bad grammar, misspellings, and just generally bad translations。The art in this manga is pretty good for the most part。 There was one hilarious panel towards the end with some serious "yaoi hands" going on, but most of the manga does not look that bad。 The artist does have a tendency to draw the sex scenes so close-up that you practically can't tell what's going on, but considering the topic of this book is the glorification of abuse, I was actually relieved。So, the plot。 Is there a plot? I don't think there's a plot。 The translation makes it difficult to tell。 There's a lot of homophobic language that I found gross, and tropes and fetishes I found even more disgusting。 The main character is supposedly the leader of a yakuza faction, but actually there's nothing to do with the yakuza in this book; a generic office setting is just used as the backdrop for the unimpressive sex scenes。(view spoiler)[Of course there's the good old Juné trope, "I'm just having sex with this guy but I'm not gay!" The yakuza "boss" is in love with his best friend from high school, but the friend's only sexual interest is in gore。 He's not interested in men or women, he likes his lovers looking abused with open sores or burn marks, and he is also attracted to keloids。 (Google that if you dare。) Since Boss isn't bruised and scarred enough to interest his friend, he hooks his friend up with another guy so he can spy on them with a camera planted in their bedroom。 Add another fetish checkmark for the privacy violation。Then Boss needs a new love interest to fuel his fantasies。 There's a new yakuza at his company, an ex-cop who is just his type。 The problem is, the ex-cop saw his adopted little sister being raped by their father, and since then he has had no sex drive and is totally impotent。 The Boss develops a fetish for impotency once he finds this out, and sexually harasses and assaults the ex-cop nonstop over it。 He also makes the ex-cop watch him have orgies at his office, since that's actually all he does with his time because he's not actually yakuza, even though the author calls him yakuza。 And, Boss admits he was molested by his own step-father and that's why he now has an insatiable sex drive。 (hide spoiler)]This manga was unnecessarily long。 You just see the same things happen over and over with no real character or plot development except for everyone's histories of sexual abuse coming to light。 I found it depressing。 I have no interest in reading any more of this series, and I do not recommend any manga published by Juné Manga in general because the quality is so bad, even if you aren't offended by gay slurs and actually enjoy nonconsensual tropes like the material they tend to publish。 The speech bubbles do not point towards any particular characters so you often can't tell who's speaking。 The grammar was bad and I swear the translator was making up words at one point。 lol Hard pass on this series for me。 。。。more

Story is a little hard to follow sometimes, but I like the romance, as twisted as it is。 I like that it isn't rushed, and that despite the smut, it still builds。 Story is a little hard to follow sometimes, but I like the romance, as twisted as it is。 I like that it isn't rushed, and that despite the smut, it still builds。 。。。more

This kind of reminds me of Banana Fish。 I was pissed off about Yoshiro for leaving Doumeki but I guess he has his reason—I mean, the first time they did it, the gentleness was so alien to him that it confused/hurt him (I don’t want to judge him for that!)It hurt me to read about his past! Kou Yoneda's dark style is still something I'm getting used to。 However I definitely enjoyed this story better than NightS another work by this mangaka。 I liked the main story being sandwiched by two side stories and the context to the main story they provided。 I'm still feeling out the dynamic between the characters and I have mixed feelings。 That is another thing I like about this mangaka。 Not all stories are black and white and not all stories have to be fluff。 This volume did a great job at Kou Yoneda's dark style is still something I'm getting used to。 However I definitely enjoyed this story better than NightS another work by this mangaka。 I liked the main story being sandwiched by two side stories and the context to the main story they provided。 I'm still feeling out the dynamic between the characters and I have mixed feelings。 That is another thing I like about this mangaka。 Not all stories are black and white and not all stories have to be fluff。 This volume did a great job at keeping me involved and connected to the characters as I continued to find out sad, depressing, and disturbing things about their past and how it has shaped them into who they are today。 I am excited to see the relationship between Doumeki and his sister。 the relationship between Doumeki and Yashiro, and, of course, the relationship between the doctor and his mad dog。With the movie coming out soon, I'm definitely all in。 。。。more
