Summary

Based on the Multiple Award Winning Film

Remember a time before cell phones could be found in every pocket? Or when even accessing the world wide web was something only readily available in a library? Back then letters still filled up postboxes and moments just felt so much more precious when captured on Polaroid film。 Now life seems to move at the speed of light。 Our memories are captured and shared with the world on social media platforms。 And love, which is already capricious, can feel like it is moving at terminal velocity。

In Makoto Shinkai’s defining work, the internationally renowned director and animator unfolds a love story that is as timeless as it is fleeting。 Yukiko Seike’s rendition of this modern classic adds a new level of emotion and intimacy that is unique to its source material。

3。5/5 It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t amazing like Your Name。 It is a story of lost love in a way and how people come and go and you never forget the ones that got away。

The art in this book was so beautiful especially with the cherry blossom trees。 Also the snow fall, it was so beautiful。 One of my favorite things about this was the characters for how realistic they were and it was easy to connect with them。 The plot was a point of let down for me。 It started off strong but in the end it kind of went nowhere, and I think a part of it is that in the second half there were POV’s of side characters to the point we got less information on the main characters。 The e The art in this book was so beautiful especially with the cherry blossom trees。 Also the snow fall, it was so beautiful。 One of my favorite things about this was the characters for how realistic they were and it was easy to connect with them。 The plot was a point of let down for me。 It started off strong but in the end it kind of went nowhere, and I think a part of it is that in the second half there were POV’s of side characters to the point we got less information on the main characters。 The ending also leaves you wanting more in that you want to know whether some of these characters were able to overcome the obstacles that have held them back from moving forward。 Which shows that not all of the characters fully grow in the story which spans from middle school to years after college。 Overall, there was some really interesting aspects but I wasn’t in love with the story。 。。。more

This manga really got to me。 It was the first time I really cried reading a book。 It portrayed growing up in a very bittersweet way (and I’m a sucker for that) and really captured how our childhood affects us throughout our lives。 At least I could relate to that, I find it hard to let go of the past。 And it is heartbreaking when you realise that others can。 I liked how mental illnesses was portrayed as well。 It felt very real。 I seem to be in a minority here, but I loved the ending。 I didn’t nee This manga really got to me。 It was the first time I really cried reading a book。 It portrayed growing up in a very bittersweet way (and I’m a sucker for that) and really captured how our childhood affects us throughout our lives。 At least I could relate to that, I find it hard to let go of the past。 And it is heartbreaking when you realise that others can。 I liked how mental illnesses was portrayed as well。 It felt very real。 I seem to be in a minority here, but I loved the ending。 I didn’t need a conclusion, in fact I was kind of relieved there weren’t one。 The open and uncertain ending felt organic, just like life itself。 And I felt hopeful no matter how it turns out。 The art is great and it reads like a poem。 My only complaint is that sometimes it was hard to tell who said whatI haven’t watched the anime, and I will。 But not until I feel mentally stable haha Definitely a 5 star book for me, and I can recommend it to people who are fine with an open (and somewhat abrupt) ending。 。。。more

Maybe I’d get it better if I saw the movie but。。。。 what’s this about? I read it and I still can’t really say。 I did like seeing Takaki grow up; it’s not often we follow manga characters into adulthood。 It seemed like a story about growing up and moving on but it seemed convoluted and switched between characters and places abruptly。 I think this kind of story is suited for animation。 I want to see the movie at some point。

Not usually a fan of love stories, but this one was pretty solid

I’m just sad。 The themes explored in this were done so good。 I liked that it was realistic and not that ‘perfect’ ending for the main characters。 That being said, the actual ending wasn’t the best。 I don’t like that it doesn’t wrap up nicely。 However, I could see that it being left open also benefits the themes。 Even though I’m heartbroken, I think that this was such a great read。

I absolutely loved this manga/anime。 It's my all time favorite。 I remember watching the anime a few times when I was a little younger, even though I couldn't completely understand its meaning, it still spoke to me a lot and kept me fascinated by it。 I'm not necessarily older and more mature now, but as I read/watch it again year to year, I keep understand and learning some new things about life and love life with this book。 The second part really spoke to me。 I absolutely loved this manga/anime。 It's my all time favorite。 I remember watching the anime a few times when I was a little younger, even though I couldn't completely understand its meaning, it still spoke to me a lot and kept me fascinated by it。 I'm not necessarily older and more mature now, but as I read/watch it again year to year, I keep understand and learning some new things about life and love life with this book。 The second part really spoke to me。 。。。more

。。 。。。more

This is a romantic but sad book。 For example: the girl go to other city to study, so she is far away to her best friend(a boy)。 Even though they talked on phone, but when time go, they didn't talk any more, when they came to there hometown, they didn't know each other。 When you read the beginning it is romantic, but the story is really sad at last。 This is a romantic but sad book。 For example: the girl go to other city to study, so she is far away to her best friend(a boy)。 Even though they talked on phone, but when time go, they didn't talk any more, when they came to there hometown, they didn't know each other。 When you read the beginning it is romantic, but the story is really sad at last。 。。。more

Wasn't as "poetic" as Shinkai's other works imo。 I think this is suffering from the problem: "based on the anime" -- relying too heavily on the reader having already watched the film to fill in the blanks。 If you're going to read this, I would recommend watching the film first。 It wasn't bad。 I'll probably reread it at some point, but it was a bit of a disappointment。 Wasn't as "poetic" as Shinkai's other works imo。 I think this is suffering from the problem: "based on the anime" -- relying too heavily on the reader having already watched the film to fill in the blanks。 If you're going to read this, I would recommend watching the film first。 It wasn't bad。 I'll probably reread it at some point, but it was a bit of a disappointment。 。。。more

5 cm per second by Makoto Shinkai is one of my favorite shorter books that I have read in a long while。 I originally had watched the anime movie first, and had felt left in the dark in some spots。 I then found out that there was a book, and I knew I had to read it instantly。 There are so many beautiful quotes within these pages, and many lessons that I think are important to understand rather than having to experience them yourself。 A lot of people when they read this book don't really understa 5 cm per second by Makoto Shinkai is one of my favorite shorter books that I have read in a long while。 I originally had watched the anime movie first, and had felt left in the dark in some spots。 I then found out that there was a book, and I knew I had to read it instantly。 There are so many beautiful quotes within these pages, and many lessons that I think are important to understand rather than having to experience them yourself。 A lot of people when they read this book don't really understand the story or the meaning。 This is a story about how people fall apart from each other slowly over time。 5 cm per second is the rate at which cherry blossoms fall, this is a metaphor for relationships。 I think it's quite beautiful。 If you need something to give yourself some heartbreak, this is definitely the book for you。 These are some of my favorite quotes from this book。 "Then one day I realized that my heart was withering, and in it there was nothing but pain。 And that my beliefs, that I once held so passionately, had completely disappeared。" My personal favorite is this, "Reality is brimming over with beautiful things, scintillating feelings。 How many of them have I been missing?" I love this quote because I have depression, and often find myself missing out on the beautiful things in life because I'm too focused on my own dark mind。 I give this book a 4 1/2 stars, but it wouldn't let me select half stars。 。。。more

Also I’m surprised that Kanae went to look for Takaki instead of being with Ryo that was surprising
