Summary

The legend of the Black Barn tells of an otherworldly building that has appeared and reappeared throughout history, bringing death and madness in its wake。 Now, its mystery ensnares and entwines the lives of two very different men。 One: a young recluse, obsessed with finding hidden clues within the city's trash。 The other: a washed-up Catholic priest, finding his place in a small town that hides dark secrets。 Neither of them are prepared for what's inside the Black Barn。

From Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, the bestselling creative team behind Old Man Logan and Green Arrow, comes a character-driven meditation on obsession, mental illness, and faith。

I liked it。 It has your typical horror elements: mysterious creepy deaths, demon hunting secret club, an evil black farm, & a priest who has lost his way。 Characters have good dynamics, such as the psychologist & her patient。 The plot has me interested so will be moving forward with volume 2。

really like the artwork and the story has potential- i mean that last page really was unexpected

Maaaaan, whatever this corner of horror this is, my goodness, it's what keeps me creeping back on the genre。 Mysterious, sinister, otherworldly, and unexplained evil is something I will plunge into forever with abandon that doesn't otherwise suit me。 I want to know everything about where this is going。 Two men of entirely different setups seeking out more information about a black barn that appears when and how it shouldn't be possible? Oh my god, count me the fuck in。 Maaaaan, whatever this corner of horror this is, my goodness, it's what keeps me creeping back on the genre。 Mysterious, sinister, otherworldly, and unexplained evil is something I will plunge into forever with abandon that doesn't otherwise suit me。 I want to know everything about where this is going。 Two men of entirely different setups seeking out more information about a black barn that appears when and how it shouldn't be possible? Great story。 Excellent characters

In the midst of my annual graphic novel diversion。 Pleasantly strange, curiously laid out on the page, very effectively creepy, ambiguously religious。 Looking forward to seeing where the story goes。

Oozing with quality。 The effort put into creating Gideon Falls deserves mentioning。 Weird, unsettling premise elevated with mind-blowing, mind-bending art。 Looking forward to reading on。 A high quality horror comic book。

Best new horror by farThis is the 3rd time I've read this now and I have caught something new again。 It's one of those stories where one reading is not enough to figure the twists and turns this story takes。Jeff Lemire has another series that will leave readers wanting。Fantastic!! Deeply eerieFantastic horror graphic novel that tells its story as much through panel design and layout as it does through the excellent art and prose。

Gideon Falls? I don’t know what I am doing reviewing comics so I will keep this a little short but I wanted to acknowledge that I read this and enjoyed it。 In this last year I tried to read a few comic series。 I started and enjoyed East of West and Saga because in part they felt like they would be impossible to exist in any other form。 No way a Saga TV show or movie would make sense。 That is the thing that attracted me to those series more than anything。 I did enjoy the stories and the art was fine, but it wa I don’t know what I am doing reviewing comics so I will keep this a little short but I wanted to acknowledge that I read this and enjoyed it。 In this last year I tried to read a few comic series。 I started and enjoyed East of West and Saga because in part they felt like they would be impossible to exist in any other form。 No way a Saga TV show or movie would make sense。 That is the thing that attracted me to those series more than anything。 I did enjoy the stories and the art was fine, but it was a different feeling。 That is not the case with Gideon Falls, which feels like a lost TV series。 I see how it would be filmed, I am hearing a score in my head。 That is a totally different trick but one writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino can feel good about it。 I have no idea where the mystery of the murders and truth behind the black barn is going but I am here for it。The art is amazing, and the way the panels are organized is great, don’t try reading it in low light as I did the first evening I was reading this book。 The story and the setting is creepy with a big fat capital C。 When our point of view character a washed-up Catholic priest asks what happened to the man he is replacing the fear to answer is really earned。Norton the paranoid character trying to solve the mystery is two years ahead of the curve wearing a mask。 His murder wall is one you really spend some time with while reading the book。 Atmosphere, mood, tone, and vibe。 That is what this book is about。 Really interested in where it is going。 。。。more

It's pretty good。 I like the artwork and the panel designs。 Shaping up to be a nice little horror story。 I hope if the tv show is ever made it's as visually striking but I know it will definitely not be。 It's pretty good。 I like the artwork and the panel designs。 Shaping up to be a nice little horror story。 I hope if the tv show is ever made it's as visually striking but I know it will definitely not be。 。。。more

This is surprisingly really good。 Again, another slow-burn story that comes together perfectly。 The set-up, the conflicts, the characters and their characterisation, et al, is well executed。

Nora

The story is interesting and creepy, and while the art fits the vibe I’m just about as far from in love with it as I can be without outright loathing it。

Nefanee

Really enjoyed this。 The story was interesting and I can’t wait to see where it goes。 Some of the art was genuinely creepy。

Barns are scary。 Big, empty Canadian agricultural space is scary too。 I like this and will soon plunge into volume 2。 I'm not a huge horror fan, but this is moving right along and has a rawness that I like。 My only real complaint so far is that garbage guy's cute psychiatrist folds a little too quickly when she begins seeing his visions。 It could work, but she hardly hesitates to jump on the crazy train。 Barns are scary。 Big, empty Canadian agricultural space is scary too。 I like this and will soon plunge into volume 2。 I'm not a huge horror fan, but this is moving right along and has a rawness that I like。 My only real complaint so far is that garbage guy's cute psychiatrist folds a little too quickly when she begins seeing his visions。 It could work, but she hardly hesitates to jump on the crazy train。 。。。more

Kind of a trippy story with a strong horror vibe, and I've got to admit, liked it more than I thought I would。It starts with this crazy dude who pokes around in garbage thinking he's finding clues to some secret of the universe stuff in the trash。 His shrink thinks he's nuts。Until she doesn't。When she starts seeing the same weird shit he does, it looks like she may have to reevaluate her patient's illness or check herself into the hospital right alongside him。At the same time, a priest with a Kind of a trippy story with a strong horror vibe, and I've got to admit, liked it more than I thought I would。It starts with this crazy dude who pokes around in garbage thinking he's finding clues to some secret of the universe stuff in the trash。 His shrink thinks he's nuts。Until she doesn't。When she starts seeing the same weird shit he does, it looks like she may have to reevaluate her patient's illness or check herself into the hospital right alongside him。At the same time, a priest with a checkered past gets reassigned to the small town of Gideon Falls after their priest mysteriously dies。 <--or did he die?The whole town is filled with people who aren't necessarily what they seem to be at first, and somehow it all connects to this Black Barn。A Black Barn of Eviiiiil。Not sure where this is headed but it has the potential to be cool。 It's one of those stories that could easily slip off the rails and crash into whatthefuck territory, but for now, I'm interested in seeing where it goes。 。。。more
