Summary

Presidential candidate and former host of The Apprentice Donald J。 Trump reveals the business secrets that have made him America’s foremost deal maker!

“I like thinking big。 I always have。 To me it’s very simple: If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big。”—Donald J。 Trump

Here is Trump in action—how he runs his business and how he runs his life—as he meets the people he needs to meet, chats with family and friends, clashes with enemies, and changes the face of the New York City skyline。 But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated eleven guidelines for success。 He isolates the common elements in his greatest deals; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker’s art。 And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it。 Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur and an unprecedented education in the practice of deal-making。 It’s the most streetwise business book there is—and the ultimate read for anyone interested in achieving money and success, and knowing the man behind the spotlight。

Praise for Trump: The Art of the Deal

“Trump makes one believe for a moment in the American dream again。”—The New York Times

“Donald Trump is a deal maker。 He is a deal maker the way lions are carnivores and water is wet。” —Chicago Tribune

“Fascinating 。 。 。 wholly absorbing 。 。 。 conveys Trump’s larger-than-life demeanor so vibrantly that the reader’s attention is instantly and fully claimed。” —Boston Herald

“A chatty, generous, chutzpa-filled autobiography。” —New York Post

Didn't think I could like Trump more!I respect his vision and drive, and the way he values people。 Much of what he says in his book was reflected in his Presidency。 For example, he admits he has, since childhood, been a polarizing individual。 People either love him or hate him。 Truth。Well worth the read。 Love the stories, the way he speaks, and the format of the book as he shares a week in the life。 Didn't think I could like Trump more!I respect his vision and drive, and the way he values people。 Much of what he says in his book was reflected in his Presidency。 For example, he admits he has, since childhood, been a polarizing individual。 People either love him or hate him。 Truth。Well worth the read。 Love the stories, the way he speaks, and the format of the book as he shares a week in the life。 。。。more

Amazing man, amazing family, amazing stories。 I should have read it 10+ years ago。 I wasn't expecting to learn so much about ice rinks, football, rentals, taxes, skyscrapers, casinos, lawyers, politicians, New York, indoor waterfalls, marble, leadership - America。 What's Next"Fortunately, I don't know the answer because if I did, that would take half the fun out of it。 This much I do know: it won't be the same。 I've spent the first twenty years of my working life building, accumulating, and ac Amazing man, amazing family, amazing stories。 I should have read it 10+ years ago。 I wasn't expecting to learn so much about ice rinks, football, rentals, taxes, skyscrapers, casinos, lawyers, politicians, New York, indoor waterfalls, marble, leadership - America。 What's Next"Fortunately, I don't know the answer because if I did, that would take half the fun out of it。 This much I do know: it won't be the same。 I've spent the first twenty years of my working life building, accumulating, and accomplishing things that many said could not be done。 The biggest challenge I see over the next twenty years is to figure out some creative ways to give back some of what I've gotten。 I don't just mean money, although that's part of it。 It's easy to be generous when you've got a lot, and anyone who does, should be 。But what I admire most are people who put themselves directly on the line。 I've never been terribly interested in why people give, because their motivation is rarely what it seems to be, and it's almost never pure altruism。 To me, what matters is the doing, and giving time is far more valuable than just giving money。 In my life, there are two things I've found I'm very good at: overcoming obstacles and motivating good people to do their best work。 One of the challenges ahead is how to use those skills as successfully in the service of others as I've done, up to now, on my behalf。 Don't get me wrong。 I also plan to keep making deals, big deals, and right around the clock。 " 。。。more

Interesting to read after his presidency, having never read it before。 Trump has a unique perspective on life which is probably why he comes across so brash。 He doesn't appreciate any one that proves to be an enemy, and doesn't like people that aren't willing to put in the work。 Interesting to read after his presidency, having never read it before。 Trump has a unique perspective on life which is probably why he comes across so brash。 He doesn't appreciate any one that proves to be an enemy, and doesn't like people that aren't willing to put in the work。 。。。more

As a Trump supporter, it was great to support the greatest president ever by buying this book, but I thought it was okay。You get to learn a bit about his upbringing in the beginning which I enjoyed the most, but after that it’s just real after deal he does。I was expecting more about how to make deals but he just tells about the deals he made- impressive as they are。3/5 stars

É um livro de escrita fácil e com muitos ensinamentos, principal no quesito mentalidade e perseverança, há de se ter paciência para fechar bons negócios。 Um livro que me fez, não admirar, mas respeitar Donald Trump e seu jeito de negociar。

Not what I expected, this book is more a collections of deals Trump has made throughout his life and while there is value to that and it is interesting to hear of his upbringing。 It's not exactly what I wanted to take away from the book。 After about 150 pages that I did read, I started to lose interest and thats why I dropped the book。 Overall its pretty ok Not what I expected, this book is more a collections of deals Trump has made throughout his life and while there is value to that and it is interesting to hear of his upbringing。 It's not exactly what I wanted to take away from the book。 After about 150 pages that I did read, I started to lose interest and thats why I dropped the book。 Overall its pretty ok 。。。more

No reader goes into reading a book as a blank slate。 In my case, I am not a fan of Donald Trump as President。 But one day I was wondering what the young Donald Trump said about making a deal and did his Presidency live up to that reputation?Trump: The Art of the Deal is essentially a biography。 Or maybe an autobiography depending on how much you think Donald Trump wrote。 As such,he talks about how his accomplishments turning around properties became successes。 It seems like the lessons Donald T No reader goes into reading a book as a blank slate。 In my case, I am not a fan of Donald Trump as President。 But one day I was wondering what the young Donald Trump said about making a deal and did his Presidency live up to that reputation?Trump: The Art of the Deal is essentially a biography。 Or maybe an autobiography depending on how much you think Donald Trump wrote。 As such,he talks about how his accomplishments turning around properties became successes。 It seems like the lessons Donald Trump presents are:* Go Big* Get out of a deal before it goes bad* Do not rush into a deal* Trust your gut feelingBy reading this book, did I learn how to make a deal? No。 Did I learn more about who Donald Trump is? Yes and I think I gained confirmation about his character and personality。 Before Donald Trump became President, he said that President Obama and his Iran negotiators should have read this book。 I am left wondering did President Trump follow his own advice? If so, what political or international deals did he make which he would write another book about? For more of my thoughts, please see my book blog。 。。。more

The Art of the Deal is a dreadful book, but not because it is badly written or its contents are horrible。 The Art of the Deal is dreadful as it is, completely as expected, a commercial for Trump。 Tony Schwartz did a sufficient job in trying to make Trump seem human, but there are some chapters that are paper-thin veils for what Trump really is。 An example is chapter 10, which is about Trump’s battles with the tenants of Central Park South and how he is not a “bad guy” as he does not “import truc The Art of the Deal is a dreadful book, but not because it is badly written or its contents are horrible。 The Art of the Deal is dreadful as it is, completely as expected, a commercial for Trump。 Tony Schwartz did a sufficient job in trying to make Trump seem human, but there are some chapters that are paper-thin veils for what Trump really is。 An example is chapter 10, which is about Trump’s battles with the tenants of Central Park South and how he is not a “bad guy” as he does not “import truckloads of junkies, prostitutes, and thieves” to “move them into vacant apartments to terrorize holdout tenants”。 However, he did, what Trump called, run the building “more efficiently” by taking the uniforms off the doormen, prohibiting them to help tenants with their luggage and replacing the bulbs in the hallway with “lower-wattage bulbs”。 Obviously Trump pretends this was all in good faith to simply run the building efficiently, but I have severe doubts。 These tales of Trump being portrayed as a good guy who simply wants the best deal possible and is not out to harass or hurt anyone are ‘funny’ to read now that hindsight is 20/20 and we can read about how most of these projects have either failed or there were significant problems with Trump’s involvement。 As a time capsule, the book is a great read。 As a book about the art of the deal however, it is lacking。 。。。more

Interesting book about making large transactions, and what it is like to be in the ultra high end market。 My business experience typically consists of smaller, repetitive transactions, to middle or working class clients。 Very eye opening to see how someone approaches the top end of their market。 Also found it a bit insightful on Trump's chaotic personality。 I recommend this to anyone interested in real estate, deal making, or the Trump presidency。 Interesting book about making large transactions, and what it is like to be in the ultra high end market。 My business experience typically consists of smaller, repetitive transactions, to middle or working class clients。 Very eye opening to see how someone approaches the top end of their market。 Also found it a bit insightful on Trump's chaotic personality。 I recommend this to anyone interested in real estate, deal making, or the Trump presidency。 。。。more

Self bragging and nothing to take back for young readers who want to take the core values of trump which made him an icon he is today。 Totally disappointment and it was a waste of time reading his accomplishments and the deals he closed without listing any of the failures he faced and not even accepting them at any point

I read this book in the 90s and I am just updating my Goodreads app。 I did take a couple of things away and applied it to my business but overall you look back and you see hell just like today he is all over hisself。 The one main thing I did like is hell he has his 15 or 30 minute meetings and gets straight to the point and moves on。 I’ve always tried to run my business the same way to be more efficient。 Not that we can’t chitchat at times but I like to be more efficient when needed。

Trump writes precisely as he speaks: candidly and to the point。 Best: insight into what to consider when entering into a contract and how to negotiate。 Worst: sometimes absolutist and self-righteous。

Interesting read。 It helped me understand better some aspects of the New York construction business。 I also learnt about how some celebrities in New York protested an increase in rent price in 1980s, even though the rent they were paying was set in the 1940s as a way to help soldiers returning from WW2 Europe get back to life。Reading this book allowed the reader to find some good in Trump, not just observe the man one-dimensionally。 All people are good at something and not so good at other thing Interesting read。 It helped me understand better some aspects of the New York construction business。 I also learnt about how some celebrities in New York protested an increase in rent price in 1980s, even though the rent they were paying was set in the 1940s as a way to help soldiers returning from WW2 Europe get back to life。Reading this book allowed the reader to find some good in Trump, not just observe the man one-dimensionally。 All people are good at something and not so good at other things。 。。。more

Great book。 This book convinces me without a doubt that Trump is an expert at appealing to hot cognitions(aka "fast" or "System 1" thinking from Thinking Fast and Slow) and controlling frame(read Pitch Anything)。 This book is basically a tutorial of how he uses this knowledge to close deals, influence media, etc。 There's also a lot of bragging(it's Trump lol)。 Great book。 This book convinces me without a doubt that Trump is an expert at appealing to hot cognitions(aka "fast" or "System 1" thinking from Thinking Fast and Slow) and controlling frame(read Pitch Anything)。 This book is basically a tutorial of how he uses this knowledge to close deals, influence media, etc。 There's also a lot of bragging(it's Trump lol)。 。。。more
