I understand now why Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the classic manga series out there that stood the test of time。 It has conflicting themes that make you question life versus death, war versus saving humanity, etc。 Impressive storytelling and art Himoru Arakawa! Wonderful job! Well-worth the read 📖😊

If only for the flashback part, I have to give it 5 stars。

Well, this volume certainly answered a lot of questions。 It's probably the first time I've finished one of these with less questions than where I started! Wow this book is dark though。 Our heroes reach their lowest point, as the villains prove themselves more powerful than ever and the heroes having less allies than they'd hoped。 Everything goes wrong, up until the point where we finally get told what happened in Ishbal。 Yup, a whole arc dedicated to a flashback and how gruesome the war was。 And Well, this volume certainly answered a lot of questions。 It's probably the first time I've finished one of these with less questions than where I started! Every character featured in it comes out less dignified (but more complex and interesting) than before。 Hiromu Arakawa really digs in and shows just how terrible the war was- and hell, we barely see the villains, it's just our protagonists being told to do bad things and then they do it without question。 Jeeze。 But this feels like a real turning point in the series- everyone is at their lowest, but they're also more knowledgable and with a few leads that might turn into something better。 。。。more

I've been putting this review off for almost a week。 I considered writing a small one for GR, but I've written a proper review for all the other volumes, and I want to continue that till the end。 Besides, we're over halfway there! Things are heating up, the team is coming together, and what's more important is that the main characters are more informed now。 They know about the homunculus, and they know King Bradley is one of them—it took me until now to realize that his name was King and that he I've been putting this review off for almost a week。 I considered writing a small one for GR, but I've written a proper review for all the other volumes, and I want to continue that till the end。 Besides, we're over halfway there! The third is a backstory volume。 I've been told it's the last backstory volume, and I'm glad about that, but it was still one of the best volumes in this series。 It was about the Isbalan war, which we've only heard about until now。 And to see it like this, see the actions that the military took against Isbalans。。。 It was genocide, plain and simple, and it was horrifying。 Arakawa did an exceptional job of portraying it, all sides of it。You know, seeing the war and the role State Alchemists played in it。。。 I mean, the State Alchemists were the tipping point。 It makes sense now why Scar hates them。 I can even say that I don't blame him for wanting to kill most of them。 Except that he also tried to kill two children。 Ed might be a state alchemist, but wasn't even in the war! So yeah, I still don't like Scar。 Or his god-complex。 But I understand him more now。And。。。 I think that's all I wanted to say。 It's hard to discuss these things without giving out spoilers。 I don't even know what synopsis to give since I always go in without reading one。 All I can say is that I love this manga and that these might have been my favourite three volumes so far。 。。。more

his soul placed in a hollow suit of armor that can't feel the touch of others。 As neither of them sacrificed their lives in their entirety, the exchange failed and the boys created an abomination in place of their dead mother。After burning their own home down and dealing with the abomination they created, Edward and his brother enlist themselves in the military to atone for their sins and learn more about the many secrets of alchemy; potentially learning how to recover their original bodies in the process。 While serving in the military, the brothers begin to realize how the wonders of alchemy can be abused for nefarious purposes。 Immortal life can be gained by sacrificing hundreds of innocents souls, wars can be staged and foreign nations can be annihilated under false charges, human experimentation aided by alchemy can lead to unnatural mutations, the world of alchemy is more dark and dangerous than either of them could've bargained for。Fullmetal Alchemist grew on me the longer I read it。 When I first started reading, it seemed like it was going to be generic shounen material, but it gets deeper and darker the further it goes on。 The way it handles political and religious corruption, the dangers of advanced states abusing their technology and resources at the expense of foreign nations caught in the turmoil, and the sad futility of revenge are all very well done。The characters all bear the weight of what alchemy is capable of。 Edward and Alphonse carry the burden of abusing alchemy for selfish purposes。 Their master Izumi loses her womb after attempting to resurrect her dead child。 Scar takes many lives after his entire country is desecrated and gets trapped in a pointless cycle of revenge。 Roy and Riza endure the regret of committing brutal war crimes for the sake of protecting their own nation。 Alchemy creates and destroys in equal measure and no one is free from the consequences of tipping the balance。The fight scenes are flashy and exciting without being too over-the-top because of the dangerous limitations that alchemy involves。 The law of equivalent exchange keeps the power scaling in check and adds plenty of tension to the action。 The female characters are especially well done, all of them are strong and unique in their own way。 The lead heroine Winry being a skilled mechanic, Riza being an honorable warrior of the military, Olivier Armstrong as cold and vicious as the snowy fortress she guards, and that's just a few of them。The villains are an interesting parody of the seven deadly sins。 Each of them represent the darkness and regrets of each of the main characters and they can only be conquered by coming to terms with their own flaws and sins。 The characters having to overcome their personal demons to take on the greater demons trying to overthrow the world from the shadows made the struggles of every single person in the story feel personal。 Every character, no matter how minor had their moments to shine。 Everyone had a vital role to play and the camaraderie between friend and foe alike never felt cheesy of forced。Unlike most shounen series I've read, the final arc was my favorite。 A lot of long-running shounen series have a habit of being dragged out, losing touch with what made them great or breaking their own rules in messy, plot-hole-filled final arcs that leave a lot to be desired。 Fullmetal Alchemist has no lose ends, all characters have complete arcs where they learn and grow from their dark pasts, the romance and comedy are handled well without relying on cheap fanservice, the action scenes are great but they don't overshadow the plot and the final chapters tie everything together beautifully。 It's not my favorite manga by any means as I usually tend to favor seinen, but it's definitely one of the greatest stories to ever come out of the shounen demographic in my opinion。 The ending is a tearjerker but it left me in good spirits。***My Social MediaMy Instagram Account: https://www。instagram。com/michael_sor。。。My YouTube Channel: https://www。youtube。com/channel/UCPPs。。。My Wattpad Account: https://www。wattpad。com/user/Michael-。。。My Twitter Account: https://twitter。com/SorbelloHorrorMy Facebook Account: https://www。facebook。com/michael。sorb。。。 。。。more

What an excellent piece of manga。 My head tilted inwards during those lose last few chapters。 We see, just like in Berserk, how we could live in such a sad state of affairs and for Fullmetal we all turn towards the past at a war in Ishbal。 Now, I felt split about this。 I suppose I still do。 If Ishbal remained a mystery I’d be perfectly content。 The need to flesh out every nook and cranny of a plot can really kill the spirit for me。 So far we’ve been given snippets of Ishbal from each character What an excellent piece of manga。 My head tilted inwards during those lose last few chapters。 We see, just like in Berserk, how we could live in such a sad state of affairs and for Fullmetal we all turn towards the past at a war in Ishbal。 Now, I felt split about this。 I suppose I still do。 If Ishbal remained a mystery I’d be perfectly content。 The need to flesh out every nook and cranny of a plot can really kill the spirit for me。 So far we’ve been given snippets of Ishbal from each character creating a jigsaw of a puzzle that never has all the pieces。 We make those pieces。 So here’s the deal, the last volume reveals a LOT about Ishbal。 And Ishbal is depicted as war。 I could use words like horrendous, awful, bloody, mad and all the rest of it。 But it’s war。 Mad might be the only thing that can really describe it。 For me personally, since the war was hinted at being what war is really about, I felt like the curtain shouldn’t be pulled back。 This is a manga。 It can’t do it… To my surprise Hiromu Arakawa does it。 She mentioned earlier that she buckled down and did a lot of research, so props to her, but not only that she maintained the fluency and spirit of Fullmetal Alchemist all the while portraying quite frighteningly the realities of war。 Now I’m not the one to say much about this, but I feel like this deserves some extra attention for what I believe to be the care and guided penmanship of a master。 We’re introduced to new characters, parts of the plot come full circle, the dark, shrouded past is darker。 The manga is coming clean with its characters。 These characters are not exactly who you thought they were。 Or maybe they are, and you’re just judging them based on the past… For me this is by far the best installment to Fullmetal Alchemist。 My review focuses on maybe 10% of what this book is about。 A lot of things happen before all this that are just as good。 I just feel like I had to put some more awareness on what I felt was the beating heart to volume 15 (and maybe the whole series)。 Ishbal could make or break the series and I feel like its remade Fullmetal。 Arakawa is going at Fullmetal like Winry with her automail。 It’s better each time。 。。。more

No one dies in the first two volumes, which surprised me, but then thousands of people die in the third one and I wasn't surprised at all。 😅I enjoyed the long flashback in this omnibus。 I feel like the main story isn't progressing very fast, but instead of that we got a lot of backstory, so my emotional connection towards (some of) the characters is growing stronger。 I like what happened to Lin, it seems to suit his character。 No one dies in the first two volumes, which surprised me, but then thousands of people die in the third one and I wasn't surprised at all。 😅I enjoyed the long flashback in this omnibus。 I feel like the main story isn't progressing very fast, but instead of that we got a lot of backstory, so my emotional connection towards (some of) the characters is growing stronger。 I like what happened to Lin, it seems to suit his character。 。。。more

Series Info/Source: This is the 5th 3-in-1 volume in the Fullmetal Alchemist series and contains volumes 13-15 of the original series。 I purchased this copy。Story (4/5): The first part of the story is spent with Ed, Envy, and Prince Lin stuck in Gluttony’s stomach。 They struggle to find a way out of this disgusting domain。 I really enjoyed this part of the story and how we learn more about the homunculi and about the Father of all Homunculi。 The second part of the story is spent mostly with Colo Series Info/Source: This is the 5th 3-in-1 volume in the Fullmetal Alchemist series and contains volumes 13-15 of the original series。 I purchased this copy。Story (4/5): The first part of the story is spent with Ed, Envy, and Prince Lin stuck in Gluttony’s stomach。 They struggle to find a way out of this disgusting domain。 I really enjoyed this part of the story and how we learn more about the homunculi and about the Father of all Homunculi。 The second part of the story is spent mostly with Colonel Mustang as he struggles to figure out how high the corruption goes in the government。 This leads to a flashback where we learn what really happened in the Ishbalan War。 I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first half, although the flashback to the war did provide a lot of interesting background。Characters (5/5): I continue to really enjoy all the characters in this series。 We meet a couple of new characters in the flashback and they are well done。Setting (4/5): This volume jumps around a lot between different locations and settings。 I still really enjoy the world created here, but felt like all the jumping around really disjointed things some。 Writing/Drawing Style (4/5): This continues to be a very well drawn manga series, lots of details。 Some of the fight scenes in Gluttony’s stomach were a bit hard to follow and some of the complex battle scenes in the Ishbalan War flashback were also a bit tough to follow as well。 I continue to enjoy how the story is put together and the dialogue is really well done too。Summary (4/5): This was a solid continuation of the Fullmetal Alchemist but my least favorite of the series so far。 There was just too much jumping around and too much time spent on politics。 Hopefully the next volume will spend more time with Ed and Al and their quest for the Philosopher’s Stone。 。。。more

This book focuses a lot on the Ishbalan war which is a big part of the Fullmetal Alchemist lore and extremely important to the story overall。 Knowing that I still found a good chunk of the end a little dull。 The parts that went dull were overly graphic with their violence, like unnecessarily so。
