Really enjoyed this - I extended walks to carry on listening to thisEve Hunter is back to work after recovering from an injury sustained at work but carrying the guilt of knowing she shouldn’t have been on dutyThe team are fractured but have to work together to find a killer who is taking a memento from every woman he kills。 The clock is ticking。。。Fast paced and so enjoyable

This first in the series explains so much, considering I read the second book before this one。I do recommend reading in order。For me, three stars means good, four means very good, and five means excellent。 I see Deborah Masson getting 4 or 5 stars very soon。 Good story, characters still developing but very interesting, and plot line a bit clearer in this first book than in the second, but then I can be obtuse!Thumping good read。

Great debutI really enjoyed this debut novel。 I have already purchased the next one。 Can’t wait to meet Eve Hunter and her team again。

When reading the review for this book I was intrigued and wanted to read it。 It’s all about DI Eve Hunter who has just returned from sick leave following a severe work related accident where her partner was left paralysed。 She’s back carrying a lot of blame and is thrown into another serial killer case。 It became slightly predictable at times leaving me feel like I knew how it would turn out although persevered and found some small differences at the end。 A good book in all although a bit grim a When reading the review for this book I was intrigued and wanted to read it。 It’s all about DI Eve Hunter who has just returned from sick leave following a severe work related accident where her partner was left paralysed。 She’s back carrying a lot of blame and is thrown into another serial killer case。 It became slightly predictable at times leaving me feel like I knew how it would turn out although persevered and found some small differences at the end。 A good book in all although a bit grim and gory at times。 Thanks Netgalley for this copy。 。。。more

Best murder mystery I've read in a while。 Simple, easy to follow, full of red herrings for the readers, and lots of shocking twists。 Best murder mystery I've read in a while。 Simple, easy to follow, full of red herrings for the readers, and lots of shocking twists。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book, but the ending fell a bit flat & was easily guessed half way through。 Would read more of this series with the characters though。

Page turningI know a lot of people groan at the expression ‘page turning’ but this book was for me。 A good story line, believable characters and a red herring or two along the way。 I didn’t guess who the murderer was。Really looking forward to meeting Eve, Mearns, Cooper and Ferguson in the next book。

A solid 4。5 star debut with a team I look forward to hearing more from。 Highly recommend!

Good quality procedural crime book。 Good twists, memorable characters。 Audible narration was very good too, with distinct accents between characters that have them。

Reading choice for book club this month。 Serial killer crime story。 Not for me

Wow! What a fantastic read! It’s set in Aberdeen, my home, and the author incorporated so many landmarks throughout, it was easy (and scary!) to visualise。 This book is certainly not for the feint hearted, it’s pretty gruesome and graphic with regard to the murders, but a really well written and extremely gripping story。 I can’t wait to read the next one。 MJ Arlidge fans will love this series!

This felt like a dramatisation of real life events。 What a great read! I am looking forward to more。

I am really sorry to give a bad review, something I never do。 The book is believable and the prose flows comfortably, still not for me。 If you don’t have a great memory, don’t read this book。 If you like an introspective book, this also isn’t the one for you。 I found the whole thing an ordeal and not for the reasons the author aims at。 Life is too short for this kind of read and I wish I had followed my instincts and given up after a chapter or two。

Setting: Aberdeen, Scotland。 This is the first in a crime series featuring D。I。 Eve Hunter but there is already quite a bit of 'backstory' to which the reader is introduced as the story proceeds。 As a serial killer haunts the city streets in the approach to Christmas, his victims appear to be totally random and the team struggle to find a link between them or any clue as to who the next one could be。 Meanwhile, Eve is struggling to make any headway in her first major investigation since her retu Setting: Aberdeen, Scotland。 This is the first in a crime series featuring D。I。 Eve Hunter but there is already quite a bit of 'backstory' to which the reader is introduced as the story proceeds。 As a serial killer haunts the city streets in the approach to Christmas, his victims appear to be totally random and the team struggle to find a link between them or any clue as to who the next one could be。 Meanwhile, Eve is struggling to make any headway in her first major investigation since her return to work after a vicious assault against her and a colleague。。。。At first, I found the book to be quite similar to others of the same genre - a female DI; a past mistake she is regretting; a team member/s who seem to wish her to fail; a vindictive local journalist - yet still the story was pretty gripping and it certainly wasn't obvious who the killer was, although several names were investigated and later discarded。 I will certainly be reading the second in the series, which I already have on TBR - 8/10。 。。。more

This was an incredible debut novel that started my 2020 with a bang。 It is a must read for anyone who loves tense crime thrillers。 Addictive - I could not put it down。 Even when you think you’re close, the book just keeps you guessing - right till the very end。

Brilliant first book in a new detective series with DI Eve Hunter! Fantastic characters in the team in that I could relate to each and every one of them。 Moving on to her second book now and will definitely be following this author to see what else she has in line for DI Hunters team

Its official I am now hooked on this series。 I did just towards the end begin to wonder at the culprit but not in a million yearsdid I predict the final moments involvingMearns and the team。Cannot wait to get stuck into the 2nd book。

Loved the story even though a couple of points were worked out before the end, there were also some twists。 Will look forward to reading #2。 Easy quick read。

I enjoyed the plot and the characters。 While I guessed some aspects of the story, the writing kept me interested enough from start to end。

Formulaic but a formula that works。。。cop on the trail of a serial killer, killer leaving a trail of messages, cop running out of time。It did take me a little while to get into this and I thought I had missed something as there were references to things in the main character's past that were integral to the story that I didn't comprehend。 But I just kept reading and the suspense really built up and the characters became more interesting。 Of course the back story of the main character was revealed Formulaic but a formula that works。。。cop on the trail of a serial killer, killer leaving a trail of messages, cop running out of time。It did take me a little while to get into this and I thought I had missed something as there were references to things in the main character's past that were integral to the story that I didn't comprehend。 But I just kept reading and the suspense really built up and the characters became more interesting。 Of course the back story of the main character was revealed later on。The relationships between the members of the task force were developed perfectly and this leads me to anticipate more books in the series。 。。。more

This is book, Deborah Masson’s debut novel, gripped me from start to finish。 Introducing Aberdeen cop DI Eve Hunter, Hold Your Tongue has twists, red herrings, false trails and a climax to get the blood pumping and the tension ratcheted up。 It reads like the work of a seasoned crime writer and Masson deserves to be ranked alongside some of the big hitters in this genre。 With a debut this good, she has a lot to live up to with her follow up novel which is due out in paperback in December 2020。 I This is book, Deborah Masson’s debut novel, gripped me from start to finish。 Introducing Aberdeen cop DI Eve Hunter, Hold Your Tongue has twists, red herrings, false trails and a climax to get the blood pumping and the tension ratcheted up。 It reads like the work of a seasoned crime writer and Masson deserves to be ranked alongside some of the big hitters in this genre。 With a debut this good, she has a lot to live up to with her follow up novel which is due out in paperback in December 2020。 I can’t wait for it to hit the bookshops! 。。。more

OK, rather formulaic detective drama。 Quite gruesome。 I finished it。Would I read another by the author - if it was offered, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one or choose from the library。Would I recommend - well - it's ok so yeah, maybe。 OK, rather formulaic detective drama。 Quite gruesome。 I finished it。Would I read another by the author - if it was offered, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one or choose from the library。Would I recommend - well - it's ok so yeah, maybe。 。。。more

Hold Your Tongue is a gritty debut by Deborah Masson based in Aberdeen - the grey granite city。 DI Eve Hunter returns to work after a six month absence to investigate a series of murders。 What unfolds is a twisty and gruesome tale which costs the lives of several victims。This book contains so much grotesque imagery it left me cringing but I couldn't help but read on。 The characters were spot on offering the perfect balance as they were flawed but they were likeable。 These killings I would say ar Hold Your Tongue is a gritty debut by Deborah Masson based in Aberdeen - the grey granite city。 DI Eve Hunter returns to work after a six month absence to investigate a series of murders。 What unfolds is a twisty and gruesome tale which costs the lives of several victims。This book contains so much grotesque imagery it left me cringing but I couldn't help but read on。 The characters were spot on offering the perfect balance as they were flawed but they were likeable。 These killings I would say are comparable to The Hannibal, that's the kind of vibe I got anyway。 What topped this off for me was the setting, its so close to home I could vividly picture it and Aberdeen is the prefect setting for this book。 I love the psychology and gameplay of a serial killer and Masson definitely has sussed to a tee。 。。。more
