Summary

Cosmos has 13 heavily illustrated chapters, corresponding to the 13 episodes of the Cosmos television series。 In the book, Sagan explores 15 billion years of cosmic evolution and the development of science and civilization。 Cosmos traces the origins of knowledge and the scientific method, mixing science and philosophy, and speculates to the future of science。 The book also discusses the underlying premises of science by providing biographical anecdotes about many prominent scientists throughout history, placing their contributions into the broader context of the development of modern science。

The book covers a broad range of topics, comprising Sagan's reflections on anthropological, cosmological, biological, historical, and astronomical matters from antiquity to contemporary times。 Sagan reiterates his position on extraterrestrial life—that the magnitude of the universe permits the existence of thousands of alien civilizations, but no credible evidence exists to demonstrate that such life has ever visited earth。

Listened to this on audio to go to sleep to and I really enjoyed it! I’ve heard Brian Cox talk about how much he loves Carl Sagan and I knew this book was written in the 80’s so thought I’d give it a listen。 Was really cool to see how much things had changed between then and now and I’m loved hearing him talk about voyager 1 and 2 since those missions are still going! Sagan is a master at weaving science, history, and humanity all into the beautiful unboxing of our glorious Cosmos。 A classic gem that will stay in my collection forever。

Overall: Sagan's novel is eye opening。 The universe is not a simple concept, but he easily breaks it into its simplest forms。 It's extremely fun to see how much our understanding changes over time, and also how we still are discovering things。 A great read for science lovers。 Overall: Sagan's novel is eye opening。 The universe is not a simple concept, but he easily breaks it into its simplest forms。 It's extremely fun to see how much our understanding changes over time, and also how we still are discovering things。 A great read for science lovers。 。。。more

Carl Sagan's "magnum opus" was written decades before the ISS, Hubble Space Telescope and Mars Exploration missions yet it still stands as a breakthrough model of bringing astronomy to pop culture and captivating the imagination and passions of millions in scientific pursuit。 Sagan and his wife would go on to write many more works but none were as influential as Cosmos。Sagan's descriptions of the physics, chemistry and origins of our solar system and the regions that exist beyond it are told in Carl Sagan's "magnum opus" was written decades before the ISS, Hubble Space Telescope and Mars Exploration missions yet it still stands as a breakthrough model of bringing astronomy to pop culture and captivating the imagination and passions of millions in scientific pursuit。 Sagan and his wife would go on to write many more works but none were as influential as Cosmos。Sagan's descriptions of the physics, chemistry and origins of our solar system and the regions that exist beyond it are told in a common-sense language that any reader from the elementary to collegiate level experience can interpret easily。 The accounts are also presented in a vivid and entertaining style that sweep away the sterilized scientific nomenclatures and presentation of academic readings。Cosmos captivated a generation that witnessed the first Apollo Moon-landing missions and the Space Shuttle era and continued to make fans of their children who today bear witness to the 21st century's efforts to return to the Moon and research the Red Planet。Modern authors and astrophysics guides such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the late Stephen Hawkins owe some partial success to their audiences due to Cosmo's early success。 In addition to the knowledge and perspective of the "final frontier", Sagan was a optimist and a humanist who believed that space held salvation for the human race。 The path we race down today would have concerned him but not discouraged his faith in the human spirit。 。。。more

A total dissapointment。 Ok, it was written 50 years ago。 But nevertheless, it is all about nothing。 Talking about evolution and everything possible, but as if for a pub audience。

Informative and easy to read for a science bookCarl Sagan was a gem of a person。 I look forward to meeting him someday in a perfect world and discussing the design of everything in the Cosmos。

One of the best I could have my hand on。 I started the book in the memory of Late Actor, Sushant Singh Rajput。 As I was shocked by his early demise and realizing that he was so much fond of space and science, I began to read this priceless treasure of knowledge of space。 It had covered everything, Past, Present, and Future of every planet and all other aspects of space。 I recommend this book to all。 Students, Professors, Working Professionals, Techies, And Kids。 Best Wishes。 And hats off, Karl S One of the best I could have my hand on。 I started the book in the memory of Late Actor, Sushant Singh Rajput。 As I was shocked by his early demise and realizing that he was so much fond of space and science, I began to read this priceless treasure of knowledge of space。 It had covered everything, Past, Present, and Future of every planet and all other aspects of space。 I recommend this book to all。 Students, Professors, Working Professionals, Techies, And Kids。 Best Wishes。 And hats off, Karl Sagon for presenting to us, COSMOS。 。。。more

A timeless book that balances scientific knowledge and entertaining prose。 100% recommended。 Sagan is a mastermind at painting the long range of existence and the mindblowing scale of the universe。 Thoughtful and beautiful all around。

Cosmos is a brilliant read but only for a properly elite science-loving audience。 You are hereby warned to pick the book you read。 。。。more

“Books break the shackles of time, proof that humans can work magic。”40 years after it was first published, the book still poses relevant questions about the existence of life and the future of humanity。 What I found very pleasant is that the book both describes worlds our generation will never visit, but also draws interesting connections to our history, biology and psychology among others, making it a diverse and enjoyable read。
