Summary

Overall this was so sweet and tender I was able to get past the fact that I felt the book swerved wildly between being a book for middle graders and being a YA fantasy story。

So beautifully written, and so funny to read。 I don't know if a book has ever made me cry- or even laugh so much- but I definitely teared up a few times。 One of my new favorites by far。 So beautifully written, and so funny to read。 I don't know if a book has ever made me cry- or even laugh so much- but I definitely teared up a few times。 One of my new favorites by far。 。。。more

What a fantastic book。 It's so comforting。 I read it in one sitting and cried a few times and my heart feels soft。 It reads like a book meant for 13/14 year olds or thereabouts, but I really feel like a wide audience can take a lot out of this, and enjoy it a lot。 Its got it all, themes of found family, self love, romantic (and gay) love, familial love, emotional healing, and growth。 Definitely one of my favorite books ever。 Please read it What a fantastic book。 It's so comforting。 I read it in one sitting and cried a few times and my heart feels soft。 It reads like a book meant for 13/14 year olds or thereabouts, but I really feel like a wide audience can take a lot out of this, and enjoy it a lot。 Its got it all, themes of found family, self love, romantic (and gay) love, familial love, emotional healing, and growth。 Definitely one of my favorite books ever。 Please read it 。。。more

May be because I am not emotional type person but this book felt a little too much sweet。 The humour is mostly odd and unrelatable (with few good exceptions)。 I was about to give up at 75% mark but then felt, I might as well just finish it out。I would have rated this book lower but I guess it won't be that disappointing to others as it was for me。 May be because I am not emotional type person but this book felt a little too much sweet。 The humour is mostly odd and unrelatable (with few good exceptions)。 I was about to give up at 75% mark but then felt, I might as well just finish it out。I would have rated this book lower but I guess it won't be that disappointing to others as it was for me。 。。。more

Amazing book。 Hits all the childhood feels, even more so than Harry Potter would do for me nowadays。 Love the vision, the inclusiveness, and the humorous writing。 I chuckled, cried and felt all the things。

This book was amazing! It had everything that I wanted。 Monster children and an unexpected protagonist who is 45 years old。

I loved the majority of the book, but hated the ending。 So blah。 The characters were great though。

A nice story with a good message。 While marketed for kids, there is much to think about for adults。 I would definitely put this on your TBR list as a quick read, funny and serious。

It is hard not to have high expectations when a book has a 4,53 rating here on Goodreads so I was really looking forward to reading this book。 It sounded fresh and interesting - and the cover is just gorgeous。 And I’m not disappointed。 I was entertained while reading it and it’s well-meaning - but it’s not a book that stays with you。 It’s too fluffy for that, a bit like candy floss。 I liked the characters - Linus, Arthur, the kids - but they felt a bit one-dimensional。 And while I agree with the It is hard not to have high expectations when a book has a 4,53 rating here on Goodreads so I was really looking forward to reading this book。 It sounded fresh and interesting - and the cover is just gorgeous。 And I’m not disappointed。 I was entertained while reading it and it’s well-meaning - but it’s not a book that stays with you。 It’s too fluffy for that, a bit like candy floss。 I liked the characters - Linus, Arthur, the kids - but they felt a bit one-dimensional。 And while I agree with the moral of the book - inclusivity, be nice to others even if they are different, don’t fear the unknown, no to racism etc - it was just too heavy-handed delivered。 Characters gave speeches explaining the morals for page after page。 And you could spot the ending and the plot twist pretty much from when Linus arrived at the island (I’m not even sure there were plot twists - they were so obvious!)。And yet, I liked reading it。 It was a cozy read。 A nice beach read (even if that term is a bit condescending because why can’t you read good literature on the beach?)。 But it was a nice read, just not very memorable。 。。。more

Es de esas lecturas que te deja sí o sí con un sabor de boca, un sentimiento de alegría y una gran sonrisa en la cara。 Toca el tema de la adopción bien, muestran como las minorías lamentablemente siempre son olvidados。

This book was a bit of fresh air! It felt very magical and whimsical。 The narrator of the audiobook did a phenomenal job with the voices of the different children in the story。 I would love to see this turned into a movie! I typically read dark suspenseful romances or psychological thrillers, but this was a nice change of pace! I highly recommend! This is available on the Libby app with your library card。

this book was so weird and heartfelt and odd and surprising and delightful。 it reminded me of frederick backman's style of writing a bit, and of backman's main character in "a man called ove", with like some harry potter mixed in, also with like a super awkward bumbling middle-aged gay main character。 the story is about a man named linus (right, that name says everything!) who is tasked with visiting an orphanage for magical children and determining whether it's safe to continue running it。 linu this book was so weird and heartfelt and odd and surprising and delightful。 it reminded me of frederick backman's style of writing a bit, and of backman's main character in "a man called ove", with like some harry potter mixed in, also with like a super awkward bumbling middle-aged gay main character。 the story is about a man named linus (right, that name says everything!) who is tasked with visiting an orphanage for magical children and determining whether it's safe to continue running it。 linus grapples with trying to be proper and follow the rules, but he falls in love with the kids (and with their caretaker too I might add!) and grows from a subservient and rotund man to one who is confident and sticks up for the marginalized。 in this case, the marginalized cast of characters are the kids at the orphanage – a wyvern, a gnome, a shapeshifter, a forest spree, a jellyfish like blob, and the antichrist himself。 yup, t。j。 klune makes even the antichrist himself an endearing character。 this book had such a great message and was a beam of positivity。 very cute overall, very wholesome。 。。。more

What a perfect book。 I am always so wary when books are SO HYPED as I am always, always disappointed。 Well, that was not the case with The House in the Cerulean Sea。 This book is 100% worth the hype。 It was charming, heartbreaking, colorful, funny, and warm。 I will read it again and again。 Buy this one。

I’ve heard this book described as “a hug in book form” and the front cover has a quote from Seanan McGuire that says, “This book is very close to perfect。” Both statements are incredibly accurate。 I loved this book。 I would find myself smiling while reading and sometimes even laughing out loud。 The adult characters—Linus, Zoe, Helen and Arthur were so special。 But the children of Marsyas will forever be with me。 Thalia, Phee, Chauncey, Theodore, Sal, and especially Lucy。 Children can teach us so I’ve heard this book described as “a hug in book form” and the front cover has a quote from Seanan McGuire that says, “This book is very close to perfect。” Both statements are incredibly accurate。 I loved this book。 I would find myself smiling while reading and sometimes even laughing out loud。 The adult characters—Linus, Zoe, Helen and Arthur were so special。 But the children of Marsyas will forever be with me。 Thalia, Phee, Chauncey, Theodore, Sal, and especially Lucy。 Children can teach us so much and bring about a different perspective in our daily lives。 The children in The House in the Cerulean Sea were no exception。 A lot of the fictional problems in the book could have a word or idea swapped out and apply to the real world。 I find myself wishing the island of Marsyas was a real place。 The House in the Cerulean Sea was a sweet book。 。。。more

I think I might need to accept that T。 J。 Klune's writing is not my thing。 This is the third book I've read by him - after Into this River I Drown and The Extraordinaries - and while each one had a premise I found appealing, somehow I keep coming out of them feeling underwhelmed。 I know I'm in the minority here, but I have to be honest。 To me, this book feels flat and yet also over-the-top。 Linus's workplace and his lonely life in the city are exaggeratedly dreadful。 The island and its inhabitan I think I might need to accept that T。 J。 Klune's writing is not my thing。 This is the third book I've read by him - after Into this River I Drown and The Extraordinaries - and while each one had a premise I found appealing, somehow I keep coming out of them feeling underwhelmed。 I know I'm in the minority here, but I have to be honest。 To me, this book feels flat and yet also over-the-top。 Linus's workplace and his lonely life in the city are exaggeratedly dreadful。 The island and its inhabitants are insistently, almost violently, quirky and charming。 Dialogue feels overblown and saccharine speeches abound, all of them sounding cheaply inspirational because the characters who deliver them aren't given much depth。 Maybe once or twice throughout the whole thing, a scene actually felt like it got at something real。 See: the ice cream parlour, the cellar (view spoiler)[Arthur was locked inside as a child (hide spoiler)]。 Overall, though, between a plot that is beyond predictable and a writing style that is Hallmark movie-unworthy, this book is pretty forgettable。This may come as a surprise, but this is actually my favourite book so far of the three I've read by this author。 It's my favourite because some of my favourite tropes are in it。 There's a found family, a slow(ish) burn romance, and admittedly cute kids (Theodore is my favourite)。 But equally, I've seen those tropes executed much better。I would really like to be able to like Klune's books。 Alas。。。 。。。more

I am still reeling from all the color this lovely and delightful book brought into my life。 This book。。。 made of paper, brittle and thin, lit a little fire in my heart and reminded me of all the best parts of humanity- weird and wonderful as it is- how fiercely we burn for each other。*moves to favorites shelf*

This was such a wholesome, funny and cute book! Although maybe my expectations were a lil’ too high because of the hype I think, I really enjoyed it。 The kids were funny, cute and I laughed and cryed with the characters。 The audiobook was nice but sometimes the narrator did the voices weirdly, but it was still enjoyable。
