I think I liked this one even more than the first。 There's some new characters introduced who are really interesting (view spoiler)[I was really not expecting we'd meet Andy any time soon (hide spoiler)] and I want to learn more about。 The world is also being expanded so I like seeing that。 Plus that ending。 Really enjoying this series, and of course Dustin Nguyen's art is incredible。 I just love that it's watercolors。 (I think my only complaint is that one character is referred to as blond but I think I liked this one even more than the first。 There's some new characters introduced who are really interesting (view spoiler)[I was really not expecting we'd meet Andy any time soon (hide spoiler)] and I want to learn more about。 The world is also being expanded so I like seeing that。 Plus that ending。 Really enjoying this series, and of course Dustin Nguyen's art is incredible。 I just love that it's watercolors。 (I think my only complaint is that one character is referred to as blond but on my screen looked like a redhead。 I don't know if that's a bad scan or if the art itself does lean more red than blond but oh well。) 。。。more

Going into this, I wasn't sure how much of the plot I would remember from Volume 1。 I read the first Volume of Descender over 2 years ago and had very little recollection of the plot and characters。 I'm happy to say, despite that time gap, this series was extremely easy to hop back into。Descender, Vol。 2 is an excellent graphic novel, and one of the best I've read this year。 The plot is structured extremely well and everything just flows。 My main gripe with a lot of other graphic novels is w Going into this, I wasn't sure how much of the plot I would remember from Volume 1。 I read the first Volume of Descender over 2 years ago and had very little recollection of the plot and characters。 I'm happy to say, despite that time gap, this series was extremely easy to hop back into。Descender, Vol。 2 is an excellent graphic novel, and one of the best I've read this year。 The plot is structured extremely well and everything just flows。 My main gripe with a lot of other graphic novels is while the art is beautiful, the writing is all over the place。 Thankfully, this is not the case for Descender。 The writing is as equally exquisite as the beautiful watercolor illustrations。 Something about sci-fi and cyberpunk doesn't seem like it should go with watercolors, but it's so cohesive I can't help but want to look at it more。The characters in this series are also extremely well-developed to the point where I'm emotionally involved in ALL their lives。 Hell, I even care about Driller the Killer robot to an extent that surprises me。 Not to mention Tim-21 and Bandit which you really can't help but love。 I wish I had a bandit robot in my life。Overall, the premise of the book is also interesting as hell。 I'm not really super into this subgenre of graphic novels but I'm obsessed with this。 I love the conflict of robots vs。 carbon races。 Nothing is ever as it seems in this series and I can't wait to see where it goes from here especially after the cliff-hanger ending。 。。。more

This may be becoming one of my favorite comic series- Descender is definitely my favorite comic storyline in ages! I love the characters and reveals- but I'm not quite sold on the art yet。I just finished volume 5 of Monstress, and where sometimes I am meh on the story in Monstress, I keep going back for the amazing art。 Descender is the opposite where I love the story, but the more muted watercolors aren't my preferred style of comics。 Will aboslutely finish the series though- can't believe I ha This may be becoming one of my favorite comic series- Descender is definitely my favorite comic storyline in ages! Not great。Good enough that I'll keep going but it's suffering a bit from the "small universe" effect wherein everyone knows everyone else and bumps into each other in the vast canvas of space。Twists were predictable, though the characters are still good。 The art is growing on me, it has more the feel of a series of still art than fluid continuous story。 Not great。Good enough that I'll keep going but it's suffering a bit from the "small universe" effect wherein everyone knows everyone else and bumps into each other in the vast canvas of space。Twists were predictable, though the characters are still good。 The art is growing on me, it has more the feel of a series of still art than fluid continuous story。 。。。more

We see more of the galaxy and meet some new characters。 The political plots thicken。 The balance between plot and character development is good。 The art continues to be stunning。 I am excited to continue to the next volume。 This is definitely a machine/AI vs。 biological species conflict。 The main characters are caught in the middle and trying to survive。 There are some evil individuals, but on the whole there is no one good faction。 Most of the characters are morally grey。

It's been such a long time since I read the first volume of this series, and I'm not sure why I never picked this one up because I remember loving the story。 The art is fantastic and I love the steady world-building that is found throughout, the new characters are really intriguing, and I love the reveals。 I'm really curious as to where the story is going and just how things are going to end, so I will definitely be grabbing the third volume at some point。 Hopefully a bit quicker than I did with It's been such a long time since I read the first volume of this series, and I'm not sure why I never picked this one up because I remember loving the story。 The art is fantastic and I love the steady world-building that is found throughout, the new characters are really intriguing, and I love the reveals。 I'm really curious as to where the story is going and just how things are going to end, so I will definitely be grabbing the third volume at some point。 Hopefully a bit quicker than I did with this one。 。。。more
Hailey Edge,
What a solid second volume for this series。 When reading a series by volume (instead of by issue or omnibus) The pacing is usually a bit skewed as the series is rarley intended to be broken up into 5 issue arcs。 Reading graphic novels by volume is my preferred method, however I do see the weakness in this as it chops up the story in a way that may not have been originally intended。 That being said, the end of Descender volume 1 and 2 both feel like intentional cliffhangers。 Although I own all of What a solid second volume for this series。 When reading a series by volume (instead of by issue or omnibus) The pacing is usually a bit skewed as the series is rarley intended to be broken up into 5 issue arcs。 Reading graphic novels by volume is my preferred method, however I do see the weakness in this as it chops up the story in a way that may not have been originally intended。 That being said, the end of Descender volume 1 and 2 both feel like intentional cliffhangers。 Although I own all of the volumes and can easily move onto the next book, there is something nice about closing the back page and letting the thrill and anxiety of a cliffhanger wash over you。Although Decender's cast is extensive Lemuire does an amazing job fleshing out their faction history and a hint of personality without spending too much time explaining characters who are ultimately inconsequential。 Each time a new character is introduced find myself a tad disappointed it isn't more development about Tim-21 or (view spoiler)[Andy (hide spoiler)], but my tune quickly changes as the entire cast in this series are instantly loveable (even if they are also hateable)。The artwork, absolutely amazing as always。 I find myself lost in the texture of the images, just staring at the grain of the paper。 If you haven't seen this art it's impossible to explain, but once you know you know。 。。。more

Again, Lemire is building a universe so complex, but still, so simple。 Over here, we see that the robots got some union as well, and they're going to strike mankind back!Dustin Nguyen art is sti beautiful。 I just love how you see his pencil marks on the characters。 I believe it's some sort of paradox, being a sci-fi comic and leaving his art so raw like this。 Anyway, a must read。 Again, Lemire is building a universe so complex, but still, so simple。 Over here, we see that the robots got some union as well, and they're going to strike mankind back!Dustin Nguyen art is sti beautiful。 I just love how you see his pencil marks on the characters。 I believe it's some sort of paradox, being a sci-fi comic and leaving his art so raw like this。 Anyway, a must read。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 This graphic novel series continues to surprise me by just how amazing it is。 The best way I can describe it is if you mixed the movie “Artificial Intelligence” and the video game series “Mass Effect” (two pieces of entertainment I love thoroughly), you would have an idea of what these graphic novels are about。 I loved this installment。 It’s amazing how easy it is to get attached to all of the characters。 They all have very different personalities which I really love。 The only issue I 4。5 stars。 This graphic novel series continues to surprise me by just how amazing it is。 The best way I can describe it is if you mixed the movie “Artificial Intelligence” and the video game series “Mass Effect” (two pieces of entertainment I love thoroughly), you would have an idea of what these graphic novels are about。 I loved this installment。 It’s amazing how easy it is to get attached to all of the characters。 They all have very different personalities which I really love。 The only issue I had with this installment is I didn’t think it lacked quite the emotional punch that the first one did so I couldn’t give it the full five stars。 I can’t wait to read the next one and see where it leads。 。。。more

The robot army has Tim-21。 All Tim-21 wants to do is try and find his family。 Everyone else wants him because he has the same codex as the harvesters。 The human(oids) want him for reasons; the Hardwire want him for other reasons。Meanwhile, Andy is alive; he knows Tim-21 is alive; and they're looking for each other。 Wow, it's like a sci-fi version of Toy Story。 Except with plenty of suspense and angsty flashbacks。 The robot army has Tim-21。 All Tim-21 wants to do is try and find his family。 Everyone else wants him because he has the same codex as the harvesters。 The human(oids) want him for reasons; the Hardwire want him for other reasons。Meanwhile, Andy is alive; he knows Tim-21 is alive; and they're looking for each other。 Wow, it's like a sci-fi version of Toy Story。 Except with plenty of suspense and angsty flashbacks。 。。。more

Radius,
Collected volume 2 expanded the universe of the series and created a better pace than the expository volume 1。 The fully watercolored illustrations are beautiful and expressive, with a washy imprecision that creates a sense of constant movement。 I’m not sure yet if it’s because I’m only in volume 2 but I’m finding the characters to be flat。 But the multi-layered universe with strained interplanetary and inter-species relationships are captivating enough for me to continue。
