Events are converging as good Tim tries to escape, protect his friends, and find the ur-robot。 Bad Tim gets worse, Driller is marooned on a seemingly magical planet, and the robots launch their ugc/humanity attack。 Every body end up in the vicinity of a water planet, trying to wipe out their enemies and find out about their fate via the last surviving old robot。 More surprises too!

Somehow, and I'm really not sure how, the art got better。 Or maybe I've now officially spent so much time with these characters that they ump off the page more because they are more real to me。 The story has turned up to eleven, as well。 We're at the key moment in a third act where all the stakes are raised and everything feels too intense。And I'm here for it。One more volume in the series。 It's late, but I can't go to bed here。 Somehow, and I'm really not sure how, the art got better。 Or maybe I've now officially spent so much time with these characters that they ump off the page more because they are more real to me。 The story has turned up to eleven, as well。 We're at the key moment in a third act where all the stakes are raised and everything feels too intense。And I'm here for it。One more volume in the series。 It's late, but I can't go to bed here。 。。。more

The ending of this volume knocked my socks off because I briefly forgot what we were on Mata for。 Wowie did a lot happen this volume!Tim is my favorite robot son and I love the relationship he’s building with Telsa。 I live for the “rough character adopts younger character against their initial wishes” trope。 I think Tim could worm his way into anyone’s heart。 Such is his nature! Can I also just say this volume has some of the most intriguing and unsettling cover art。 Just。 So much space and yet s The ending of this volume knocked my socks off because I briefly forgot what we were on Mata for。 Wowie did a lot happen this volume!Tim is my favorite robot son and I love the relationship he’s building with Telsa。 I live for the “rough character adopts younger character against their initial wishes” trope。 I think Tim could worm his way into anyone’s heart。 Such is his nature! Can I also just say this volume has some of the most intriguing and unsettling cover art。 Just。 So much space and yet so much texture。 I would like to have it as a print at some point。Also I’m slowly coming to accept that space operas are just one of those genres I will always love and enjoy until the end of time。 I just have too much fun reading and watching them。 。。。more

Yet another volume completed in one sitting。 I can't get enough of this series, each turn of the page reveals a new element I could have never seen coming。I have watched a lot of sci-fi films and played a lot of sci-fi games in my life and always felt the plots to be a bit formulaic。 Although Descender follows this generic formula (machines gain sentience and take revenge against humans who have treated them poorly) it manages to weave in surprises that feel authentic to the genre。 I think that Yet another volume completed in one sitting。 I can't get enough of this series, each turn of the page reveals a new element I could have never seen coming。I have watched a lot of sci-fi films and played a lot of sci-fi games in my life and always felt the plots to be a bit formulaic。 Although Descender follows this generic formula (machines gain sentience and take revenge against humans who have treated them poorly) it manages to weave in surprises that feel authentic to the genre。 I think that part of this is achieved by the short nature of the chapters。 When sci-fi television episodes drag one plot point on for an hour long episode it feels like an artificially lengthened arc。 That same arc can be represented in a comic book throughout one chapter or less。 Although you are getting more content out of a television series I much prefer the comic book approach of shorter arcs, as I find very little joy in suspense for the sake of suspense。 It is hard to find a cliff-hanger exciting when it occurs with every other plot point, instead in Descender Lemire identifies what will happen at the end of the series (view spoiler)[(Tim-21 leading the machine attack on the humans) (hide spoiler)] and allows that to fester in the readers minds throughout the entire series until its climax。At the end of this volume the entire cast has convened at the same location for the final showdown。 This is the moment I have been waiting for throughout the entire series, and hope that the final volume fully delivers on everything I have imagined while reading this series。 。。。more

This volume didn’t feel quite as action packed as the other volumes even though some significant events do occur and there is quite a cliffhanger ending。 I just don’t see how the sixth volume can possibly wrap all this up but I am excited to find out what happens next!

Wow。Just。 Wow。I did not expect this book to bring in fantasy, though I knew that the next series - Ascender, is in the same universe and has a fantasy setting。 Everything is coming to a head now。 I must buy a copy of volume 6 ASAP。

FF66FF: orphan home cornfield (tkaronto)If this were a film, volume five would be the big climatic fight where the seats would be reverberating from all the explosions。 There's a ton of cutting back and forth between key fights and our various heroes, still separated by circumstances。 There's also the beginning of personal and large scale reckonings。 On the personal level, Tim-22 is defeated。http://pussreboots。com/blog/2020/comm。。。 FF66FF: orphan home cornfield (tkaronto)If this were a film, volume five would be the big climatic fight where the seats would be reverberating from all the explosions。 There's a ton of cutting back and forth between key fights and our various heroes, still separated by circumstances。 There's also the beginning of personal and large scale reckonings。 On the personal level, Tim-22 is defeated。http://pussreboots。com/blog/2020/comm。。。 。。。more

Maybe the last volume will be good, but I have no high hopes honestly。 These characters are dry af, they have no motivation whatsoever, their backgrounds are cliche and the plot itself is cliche。 Andy is annoying the hell out of the with him calling Queen Between by her old name, even tho she said already she doesn't like it。 The only reason I'm continuing is because it's already ending, but I really don't have any curiosity in how this is gonna end。 The art style still remains incredible, thoug Maybe the last volume will be good, but I have no high hopes honestly。 These characters are dry af, they have no motivation whatsoever, their backgrounds are cliche and the plot itself is cliche。 Andy is annoying the hell out of the with him calling Queen Between by her old name, even tho she said already she doesn't like it。 The only reason I'm continuing is because it's already ending, but I really don't have any curiosity in how this is gonna end。 The art style still remains incredible, though。 。。。more

I've said all I can say about the cinematic story, art, and characters, but I have to mention the clever layouts。 Lemire has done this in his other works (ex。 Sweet Tooth), but the artists he work with always bring their own creativity to these layouts。 I loved the foldable 4-page spread in this volume。 It really captured the vast destruction of that specific scene。 In past volumes there were also flipped panels and two-page spreads designed to be read with the book flipped on its side。 All very I've said all I can say about the cinematic story, art, and characters, but I have to mention the clever layouts。 Lemire has done this in his other works (ex。 Sweet Tooth), but the artists he work with always bring their own creativity to these layouts。 I loved the foldable 4-page spread in this volume。 It really captured the vast destruction of that specific scene。 In past volumes there were also flipped panels and two-page spreads designed to be read with the book flipped on its side。 All very cool。One more volume left, and I'm excited for the finale。 。。。more

Descender has been a solid and thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable series throughout, and volume five here really raises the level - Here's hoping that Lemire sticks the landing in the final installment which I shall start reading right now because I'm addicted。 Descender has been a solid and thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable series throughout, and volume five here really raises the level - Here's hoping that Lemire sticks the landing in the final installment which I shall start reading right now because I'm addicted。 。。。more
