Summary

Dziecko nie żyje。 Nie pozostało nic więcej, by wiedzieć。

I przede wszystkim – kto kłamie, a kto mówi prawdę?

Czarny Lampart, Czerwony Wilk to opowieść niezwykle brutalna, osadzona w fantastycznej scenerii, a jednocześnie poruszająca。

I would definitely not recommend this book to everyone or even most people to be honest。 It’s a hard book to read - at times because of the violence and at times because of the beautiful and poetic prose that does not allow for lazy reading。 Despite the 4 stars, I’m not sure I liked the book but it has definitely stuck with me。

In actual fact I have not read this book as I gave up in complete despair after about 150 pages。 This isn't fantasy, it is just nonsensical gibberish。 If there is a story in here somewhere, I have not found it yet and to be honest I simply can't be bothered。 My heart always sinks when I see a list of characters at the beginning of a book。 It basically means that there are too many for the writer to control and to keep the interest of the reader。 Why would I need to refer to a list of characters In actual fact I have not read this book as I gave up in complete despair after about 150 pages。 This isn't fantasy, it is just nonsensical gibberish。 If there is a story in here somewhere, I have not found it yet and to be honest I simply can't be bothered。 My heart always sinks when I see a list of characters at the beginning of a book。 It basically means that there are too many for the writer to control and to keep the interest of the reader。 Why would I need to refer to a list of characters if the author was giving me a clear enough picture of them to keep each one fixed in the reader's mind? Having read his novel A Brief History of Seven Killings and with a recommendation from Salman Rushdie in the blurb, I hoped for much better, but this is a crushing disappointment。 Perhaps it will make sense when televised but I won't be holding my breath。 。。。more

This is an extremely violent but also creative book。 There are tons of monsters, magic, witchcraft and a good story to keep you hooked, but good lord it is violent。 I'd recommend reading the first chapter if possible and if you are still interested then go for it。 This is a long book, and it took me a good 3+ months to get through which is about the same pace as a game of thrones book for me。 This is an extremely violent but also creative book。 There are tons of monsters, magic, witchcraft and a good story to keep you hooked, but good lord it is violent。 I'd recommend reading the first chapter if possible and if you are still interested then go for it。 This is a long book, and it took me a good 3+ months to get through which is about the same pace as a game of thrones book for me。 。。。more

Very well written with a fascinating storyline, great characters and character development。 This is a fast paced adventure story that is very engaging。 That said, it is not likely a story for everyone。 It is quite violent at times and descriptively so。 There is also a lot of descriptive sex scenes many of which are male homosexual in nature and some animal sex scenes, which goes along with the whole mystical man to animal transformation parts of the story。 However, the gratuitous sex and violenc Very well written with a fascinating storyline, great characters and character development。 This is a fast paced adventure story that is very engaging。 That said, it is not likely a story for everyone。 It is quite violent at times and descriptively so。 There is also a lot of descriptive sex scenes many of which are male homosexual in nature and some animal sex scenes, which goes along with the whole mystical man to animal transformation parts of the story。 However, the gratuitous sex and violence fits well in the overall narrative and makes for a wild story that is far from tame or predictable。 Don’t say I didn’t warn you。 Cheers! 。。。more

I heard this described as an African Game of Thrones, but that rather does Black Leopard, Red Wolf a disservice。 This is a brilliant literary fantasy novel, (more along the lines of the excellent Malazan Book of the Fallen series) which draws from myths and legends from Africa and is a refreshing change from the usual pseudo-medieval European fantasy that dominates the genre。It's brutal, nasty and at the same time compelling。 You'll need patience to get through the first 100 pages, but then the I heard this described as an African Game of Thrones, but that rather does Black Leopard, Red Wolf a disservice。 This is a brilliant literary fantasy novel, (more along the lines of the excellent Malazan Book of the Fallen series) which draws from myths and legends from Africa and is a refreshing change from the usual pseudo-medieval European fantasy that dominates the genre。It's brutal, nasty and at the same time compelling。 You'll need patience to get through the first 100 pages, but then the story really takes off。 You'll also need a strong tolerance for violence, torture and a whole host of other things。 It does come with a (very) large trigger warning。The book isn't an easy read, the prose is dense and at times it is hard to figure out exactly what is going on (again, like MBoF) but it is such a great ride it really doesn't matter。 At times I just let it wash over me and didn't worry about the detail too much。The story is wrapped up (mostly) by the end, but I hope volume 2 of the Dark Star trilogy comes along soon。 I am looking forward to revisiting the world Marlon James has created。。。 。。。more

It sucks that rape was everywhere, it sucks that this book made me so angry and sick, it sucks that I know this book could've been so much better than this lightless, hopeless gorefest! It sucks because I honestly loved Tracker, like so much of him is precious to me and I wanted more of the book to be spent on his time with Mossi and his children, or even healing from his various traumas。 Instead we got This, and it's so disappointing! Ugh!  。。。more

The only reason why this book is not a personal five stars, is because it is such a strange, innovative, knotty, and violent narrative that I feel I need to re-read it to fully contend w/ it。

A welcome change of traditional scenery for those that enjoy fantasy books。 The characters are unique and provide a good array of personalities。 The story itself is pretty common, (band of heroes on a quest), and while good, did seem kind of sporadic in pace。 My personal favorite parts of the book were the shorter side stories that are offered by the various characters。James certainly has “a way with words” and there is a lot of swearing, sex and gore。 Some scenes are not pleasant to picture so A welcome change of traditional scenery for those that enjoy fantasy books。 The characters are unique and provide a good array of personalities。 The story itself is pretty common, (band of heroes on a quest), and while good, did seem kind of sporadic in pace。 My personal favorite parts of the book were the shorter side stories that are offered by the various characters。James certainly has “a way with words” and there is a lot of swearing, sex and gore。 Some scenes are not pleasant to picture so know that things will likely get uncomfortable going in。 。。。more
