Summary

I hated this stuff in high school English because it was so hard to understand。 So glad to be reintroduced in this way! Read this book!!!

Needed to refresh my thoughts/ideas around ancient Greek Mythology。 This is a good glimpse into that world, including a love story between two men and the Trojan War。 I listened to the Audio versio while on my walks。 the narrator was excellent。

I could not put this book down。 It was beautiful and captivating。 The bond between Patroclus and Achilles was something to be desired。 I felt sorry for Patroclus, living in Achilles' shadow and was glad when someone saw him for what he was - compassionate and kind。 The ending was heart breaking - Achilles was the only person who loved Patroclus - but I was happy that they got to spend eternity together。 This book definitely lives up to its reputation! I don’t usually read romances or mythology but I absolutely loved this one。 Miller’s writing style is beautiful。 Only she could turn a story about one of the greatest war in history into something beautiful。 I am super excited to read Circe, I have a feeling that I will like it even better!

I know close to nothing about the Greek mythology so I didn't expect to like this book as much as other people did。 And in the end, when I was crying at half past one in the night unable to finish the last 30 pages because tears blurred my vision, I fell in love with this book。 The writing style was hard to get into at first, but it is so poetic and beautiful when you get used to it。This book reminds me of the song "The night we met"。 The line "I had all and then most of you, some and now none o I know close to nothing about the Greek mythology so I didn't expect to like this book as much as other people did。 And in the end, when I was crying at half past one in the night unable to finish the last 30 pages because tears blurred my vision, I fell in love with this book。 The writing style was hard to get into at first, but it is so poetic and beautiful when you get used to it。This book reminds me of the song "The night we met"。 The line "I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you" played in my head on repeat as I was reading。 So do with it what you will。Literally, when I finished it I already wanted to reread it。 。。。more

An enjoyable readA legendary story told from the unique perspective of Achilles closest friend and lover, Patroclus。 The story speaks of the destructiveness of man”s pride and of the meaningfulness of love and kindness to one another。 The writing style, the perspective of Petroclus is that of a simple human with one”s own weaknesses and failings seeing the same in others。 An enjoyable read。

Everyone says this is better than Circe but I disagree。 Keep your phone handy to google all the references if you're a Greek mythology dummy like me。 It was good, and the last page took it to great。 I cried like a baby。 Everyone says this is better than Circe but I disagree。 Keep your phone handy to google all the references if you're a Greek mythology dummy like me。 It was good, and the last page took it to great。 I cried like a baby。 。。。more

Det ska villigt erkännas att jag på min olympiska höjd endast orkat igenom 150 sidor av Iliadens tröstlösa rabblade av personer och hur de är släkt med varandra。 Det här är något helt annat! Finished May 17th, “Song of Achilles”, rating- 10/10 (5 stars), SUCH A GOOD BOOK, even after 75 pages I knew this book was going to be one of my favorites, the characters are so well written and I loved joe the writing style changes as the boys got older, their relationship was so pure and good, it was so refreshing to see something like that for once, the end did kill me, but it was also super cool how Patroclus still narrated after he was gone, definitely going to reread this later

I went into this read with very high expectations and I was not disappointed at all。 This was such a beautifully written book, I don’t think I’ll ever get over it。 I’d seen so much praise for this book and let me tell you it is not misplaced。 Madeline Miller wrote this story of Patroclus and Achilles in a way that highlighted their humanity。 At the base of it, it is a story of two boys attempting to find themselves after having found each other; two halves of the same soul。 Though I am quite fam I went into this read with very high expectations and I was not disappointed at all。 This was such a beautifully written book, I don’t think I’ll ever get over it。 I’d seen so much praise for this book and let me tell you it is not misplaced。 Madeline Miller wrote this story of Patroclus and Achilles in a way that highlighted their humanity。 At the base of it, it is a story of two boys attempting to find themselves after having found each other; two halves of the same soul。 Though I am quite familiar with the story of Achilles, I found myself forgetting about the Greek mythology this story was inspired by and simply enjoying the story of two people in love stumbling through life together。 Miller’s writing is phenomenal in this book and it was her writing paired with the way she went about framing the last couple chapters that truly tore at my heart strings。 There was not a single moment that I did not enjoy while reading this book, even while I struggled to read through the tears。 This is a book I would absolutely recommend to everyone。 Whether this is the type of book you would normally pick up or not, it will be a book you will not regret reading。 。。。more

Poetic, Addictive and Tragic。I could not put this book down and was looking forward to reading it all day。 I was scared going into this incase it was going to be full of blocks and complex mythology I wouldnt understand - Nope。 Man I want to read more books like this。Likes:1) This book was written so beautifully, the language easy to read yet vivid descriptions you could imagine and phrases that would pull at your emotions and heartstrings。 I cried, laughed, swooned, got angry。 It really made me Poetic, Addictive and Tragic。I could not put this book down and was looking forward to reading it all day。 I was scared going into this incase it was going to be full of blocks and complex mythology I wouldnt understand - Nope。 Man I want to read more books like this。Likes:1) This book was written so beautifully, the language easy to read yet vivid descriptions you could imagine and phrases that would pull at your emotions and heartstrings。 I cried, laughed, swooned, got angry。 It really made me feel alot。 Each character, especially the main ones were really well fleshed out that you could almost predict how they would act。 Each with their own perfections and imperfections。 Their emotions written in such a way that I felt as if I was in their bodies, feeling as they feel。 Also I found out that the characters and stories were based on real greek mythology - a plus!2) Not really hate to love, but kind of。 Very much forbidden romance that was destined for tragedy。 Also being hidden and behind the closet。 This is almost emphasized by the little amount that we read of the 2 being intimate in the book - all hidden from the world, only a slice may be detected with those with keen eyes。 But their relationship was so sweet, so much deeper than physical attraction, like soulmates。 Made my heart warm and fuzzy。3) A sad/ bitter-sweet ending done so well。 It was a mistake to finish this before bed because that last chapter r so my tears wouldn't stop。 I usually hate sad endings, as I find it hard to justify many。 Most are there just to make you sad and shock value。 But this one was foreshadowed so early on that you were expecting it - it kept me so curious as to how or why it happened。 I had my guesses - most were correct。 A beautiful tragic ending for 2 star-crossed lovers。 I also loved the twist at the end in terms of 2 unlikely characters who came together for the love and grief of Achilles - that made my heart smile。4) Man I did not see that ending coming for Patroclus - not like that。 I was on the edge。 And the last scenes afterwards too。。。。 written in such an interesting manner。Dislikes (none really but if im being picky):1) I wish we had more time in the cave with Chiron - those were my fave times。 Also I needed more Chiron man, the guy was great。 He also said that he would find both of them。。。 but never came back? Usually, everything he said had weight to it but this one was forgotten maybe?2) Bro I wanted to know what the heck was up with Helen。 She was found but did we found out why she was captured? By exactly who? Was it her scheme????? 。。。more
