Summary

Probably one of my favorite book ever。 Honest and really well written, I felt really sad and empty when I finished the last words。 You really need to read this one!

Way better version of Girl Wash Your Face, but still meh。

I have a very “love/hate” relationship with this book。I feel like if you are not a rich, suburban, middle-aged white women, this book has a lot of aspects that are very hard to relate to。 This isn’t completely a bad thing (just the demographic the author fits into), but I do not fit into that demographic at all, so there were often times I felt disconnected from the author。 When I read the book, I was going through a period where I felt I needed guidance。 I am currently finishing my first year o I have a very “love/hate” relationship with this book。I feel like if you are not a rich, suburban, middle-aged white women, this book has a lot of aspects that are very hard to relate to。 This isn’t completely a bad thing (just the demographic the author fits into), but I do not fit into that demographic at all, so there were often times I felt disconnected from the author。 When I read the book, I was going through a period where I felt I needed guidance。 I am currently finishing my first year of med school, and my first year being a mom。 Often times I am questioning the type of woman and mom that I want to be。 I felt like this book helped me to realize things that I love about myself and some things that I want to change。 I think that this book can be helpful with that, because it’s not a typical self help book。 Overall, I give it 3 stars (3。5 if I could)。 。。。more

"If we never dive inward, we never become who we were meant to be。" [Title expired before I could finish the last few chapters] I like her insights on identity and the importance of self awareness and self efficacy as opposed to being who you think you should be based on your family's or society's expectations。 Not gonna lie, I got a little judgmental about her a few times because she seems privileged, but at least she's self-aware。 "If we never dive inward, we never become who we were meant to be。" [Title expired before I could finish the last few chapters] I like her insights on identity and the importance of self awareness and self efficacy as opposed to being who you think you should be based on your family's or society's expectations。 Not gonna lie, I got a little judgmental about her a few times because she seems privileged, but at least she's self-aware。 。。。more

I love how she sees the world and how she empowers each of us to be our true selves without remorse

I'm conflicted。 I love Glennon Doyle's honesty and life philosophy。 But parts of this book left me。。。。 I don't know。。。。。thinking that she is arrogant。 I hate to say that because I adore the work she is doing for social justice and shining a light on LGBTQI issues。 Glad I read it but felt like the book missed some things。 I'm conflicted。 I love Glennon Doyle's honesty and life philosophy。 But parts of this book left me。。。。 I don't know。。。。。thinking that she is arrogant。 I hate to say that because I adore the work she is doing for social justice and shining a light on LGBTQI issues。 Glad I read it but felt like the book missed some things。 。。。more

I love the way Glennon tells stories。 Her heart is so clear and honest。 Her writing draws you in and convinces you that you are all kindred spirits。

Great Read for men and women!。。 Untamed is the story of letting you be you when sometimes its tough to be - empowering for woman - great feministic perspective on life for men。

I was not impressed。 Though I agree with her about women having been conditioned to constantly sacrifice and ignore their own needs, thoughts, feelings, and opinions to their own detriment in order to fit the mold a patriarchal society requires, I did not find her writing particularly good or compelling。 It was written in a stream of consciousness style, which left it disorganized, somewhat rambling, and often repetitive and self-indulgent。 I think the core message could have been captured with I was not impressed。 Though I agree with her about women having been conditioned to constantly sacrifice and ignore their own needs, thoughts, feelings, and opinions to their own detriment in order to fit the mold a patriarchal society requires, I did not find her writing particularly good or compelling。 It was written in a stream of consciousness style, which left it disorganized, somewhat rambling, and often repetitive and self-indulgent。 I think the core message could have been captured with just a few well-written chapters。 I also could not relate to the whole insta-love-at-first-sight thing, and found that to be a very weak foundation for her whole argument。 。。。more

Had to restart a couple of times。 Not really the memoir I enjoy。 It's just a lot of her philosophy, although some good ah ha moments。 Had to restart a couple of times。 Not really the memoir I enjoy。 It's just a lot of her philosophy, although some good ah ha moments。 。。。more

I am taking some deep-reaching insights with me from this book (primarily about parenting and self-confidence)。 I really enjoyed her personal stories。 I did find that overall the book was too preachy。 Maybe it was trying to be too many things? It didn’t flow well。 It also broke the rule about showing, not telling。 While it’s clear that the author rescued herself。。。at the same time I’m not into the “one perfect soulmate partner” story。 I think it could set some readers who idolize the author up f I am taking some deep-reaching insights with me from this book (primarily about parenting and self-confidence)。 I really enjoyed her personal stories。 I did find that overall the book was too preachy。 Maybe it was trying to be too many things? This book started out so strong for me, but I found myself losing interest in the second half of the book。 I decided to abandon it。

I would give this 1。5 stars if I could。 can understand the hype and how this style of book can be inspirational to some。 Parts were really good, don’t get me wrong but it was too long and same old same old after awhile。 Reading it past the 2nd half felt like a chore— couldn’t even finish it。

I would love for goose to read this book one day。 Glennon is wise, introspective and adult。 I loved hearing her points of view and how she sees life in metaphors。 God blessed her with a gift of language which I found beautiful。

I read this through a workplace book club and from the minute I read the first few pages, it spoke to me。 While the author strikes me as sometimes a bit preachy, what she is saying also strikes me as true。 This will probably be one of the great feminist works of our time but at the same time, it is easy and enjoyable and relatable to read。A new mantra among those of us who read this for work: "We can do hard things。" I read this through a workplace book club and from the minute I read the first few pages, it spoke to me。 While the author strikes me as sometimes a bit preachy, what she is saying also strikes me as true。 This will probably be one of the great feminist works of our time but at the same time, it is easy and enjoyable and relatable to read。A new mantra among those of us who read this for work: "We can do hard things。" 。。。more

Electric, thought provoking, undeniably authentic。

I enjoyed the anecdotes, but I skimmed many pages of preaching and the amazingly perfect advice she gives her friends about every facet of life—parenting, marriage/love/relationship, religion, racism, feminism。 It just tried to address too many topics。 At the same time, some chapters I found Inspiring。 It’s really all over the place。 I bet she’s cooler in real life。

Colette

Stopped reading self-help books many years ago, but a friend highly recommended this。 I Enjoyed the first 90 pages。 However, when the writing changed to self-help and self knowledge techniques, couldn’t read any further。 The writer writes as though she just invented meditation and mindfulness。 There are so many better books out there on these topics, written by qualified people。

I really related to this book。 Uncaging myself little by little!

This was a book I didn't realize I needed until I started reading。 I will continue being unapologetically me。 I will feel all the feelings。 And I will keep putting myself first。 This was a book I didn't realize I needed until I started reading。 I will continue being unapologetically me。 I will feel all the feelings。 And I will keep putting myself first。 。。。more

Little gems of ideas amid sometimes self-centered rambling。 I did enjoy more of it than not, though, so I'll round to 3 stars。 Audiobook was a good format for such personal, almost confessional writing。 Little gems of ideas amid sometimes self-centered rambling。 I did enjoy more of it than not, though, so I'll round to 3 stars。 Audiobook was a good format for such personal, almost confessional writing。 。。。more

I once heard Glennon say that the more personal a writer gets, the more universal they become。 That the deeper you go into yourself, the more everyone sees themselves in you。 That is what untamed is。 A beautiful, raw narrative of her personal journey, that is relatable on every level。 There is so much wisdom in this book that I know I will continue to return to it forever。

Marion Joubert Des Ouches

I’m glad this woman found her truth and I can see how hard that must have been and how much bravery that must have taken but this memoir felt a bit ranty and the style exaggerated at times。

Caitlyn Carmack

Sometimes I resonated with her message, other times I didn’t。 Nonetheless, enjoyed reading something outside of my usual。 Does make for good book club discussions!!

This book leaned a bit too heavily towards "self-help" versus "memoir" for me。 Of course, that's on me。 I didn't know anything about Ms。 Doyle until this book came out。 If I had done any research about her prior two books, or even this one, than I probably would have been better prepared。 As a result, I found the book off-putting, at least at the start。 But then I got used to the author's style/approach。 As with many books like this, some of her topics/essays resonated, and some did not。 All in This book leaned a bit too heavily towards "self-help" versus "memoir" for me。 Of course, that's on me。 I didn't know anything about Ms。 Doyle until this book came out。 If I had done any research about her prior two books, or even this one, than I probably would have been better prepared。 As a result, I found the book off-putting, at least at the start。 But then I got used to the author's style/approach。 As with many books like this, some of her topics/essays resonated, and some did not。 All in all, I'm glad I read it。 。。。more

Not the insight and data driven information I normally look for in non fiction, but I am glad the author has found power and happiness within herself
