Summary

For the first time, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson opens up about his amazing comeback—from tragic personal loss to thriving businessman and cable’s highest-paid executive—in this unique self-help guide, his first since his blockbuster New York Times bestseller The 50th Law。

In his early twenties Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business。 A decade ago the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot。 His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin’s family。 The series quickly became “appointment” television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network—the most lucrative deal in premium cable history。

Now, in his most personal book, Jackson shakes up the self-help category with his unique, cutting-edge lessons and hard-earned advice on embracing change。 Where The 50th Law tells readers “fear nothing and you shall succeed,” Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter builds on this message, combining it with Jackson’s street smarts and hard-learned corporate savvy to help readers successfully achieve their own comeback—and to learn to flow with the changes that disrupt their own lives。

Great autobiography from someone who has had consistent top level success in a variety of industries, with simple and actionable thoughts on what got him there and how to transfer learnings from one industry to another

What can I possibly say about Curtis Jackson? I never really paid attention to him throughout the years。 I knew who he was & even liked a song or two of his。 I am not much of a person who likes rap, although from time to time, there is a song or artist that gets my attention。 His music usually was just a bit too much for me personally but he is talented, I can give him that。 What really started getting my attention with him was when I finally gave in and watched Power and fell in love! Yes, it was a bit much sometimes and I wouldn't recommend it to a lot of people in my circle lol。。。。but, I loved the characters, the writing, etc。 That show gave me a whole new outlook into Curtis Jackson, the man。 As I stated in my notes throughout the time I was reading the book, never once do I remember thinking he was a stupid man, I just never thought much about him。 Not out of being rude, it just is what it is。 When I saw the show and began to look back on his career and all of the things he has done, that made me curious about him。 Then, when I see the book, I knew I had to pick it up。 I went back and forth whether I would or not a couple times but of course, I chose the "would"。 This book gave me further respect for the man that is Mr Jackson。 Do I agree with everything that is him? No。 I'm not meant to。 But his intelligence, straight forward, blunt mannerisms are a breath of fresh air actually but you can't deal with him if you're easily triggered/sensitive。 So, that breath of fresh air for me, I would have to take in small doses if I can be honest。。because I can tend to be a bit sensitive sometimes。。。lol。。。but that has been more in the last I guess 10 years because I've been dealing with a lot more and it's just harder for me to deal with some things, even though I know it's true。 Not that I never had sensitive moments before but it seems to be a bit more lately (just being honest here)。 Now, is that to say that everything bothers me? No。 I just know that sometimes, I may not be ready to hear some things。 But usually, I can shake things off pretty quickly once I sit and think about it and see if what they're saying has any merit or not。 Anyway, didn't mean to go there。 In a nutshell, this book has done it's job。 It got me thinking about a lot of things in my life and how right he is in most areas。 What he does may not work for me but he gave great foundations on things that I know I need to do, its just about doing it。 This may become one of my favorites of this year。 May have to add it to my shelves。 I knew I'd learn some things from this book and the man but wasn't expecting to take out of it as much as I did。 The man that is Curtis Jackson did so much more than expected but at the same time, what I saw, was right。 Intelligence & a fighter wrapped up in a maturity that can only come from paying attention to the things around you and deliberately making changes that you need to make as you get older。 Curtis Jackson, the man, has a new "fan", even if we don't always agree。 :-) 。。。more

A very good read。 What makes the book great is that it felt like as if it all is genuine and felt like him narrating it all along。 A lot of lessons to be learn and with the lessons he gives examples from his own life。 Hustle, hustle hard is all about believing that you are not entitled and that you need to put in your responsibilities to achieve what you want in life。Best part is the part about entitlement。 Yeah no body is entitled to anything in life but a lit of us feel like we are, the way th A very good read。 What makes the book great is that it felt like as if it all is genuine and felt like him narrating it all along。 A lot of lessons to be learn and with the lessons he gives examples from his own life。 Hustle, hustle hard is all about believing that you are not entitled and that you need to put in your responsibilities to achieve what you want in life。Best part is the part about entitlement。 Yeah no body is entitled to anything in life but a lit of us feel like we are, the way that this is not the case presented in this book is a gem。I didn’t like the stuff he talked about a lot of people who he had worked with before。 But overall I will rate this book 4。5 if that is a thing 。。。more

Sincerely I really enjoyed reading this book, maybe it is because of my love for hip hop or just the fact that there were many real life examples that I could easily grasp, either ways Curtis Jackson did a great job, and if you want a light hearted , concise and enlighten advice-book, then this should come on the list for you。

meh, first half was good until he got into criticizing other people。 I liked how he talked very openly about personal failures but once he got into analyzing what other people were thinking, I have to start questioning what he is really bringing to the table。 There are 5 really good chapters about mistakes in the beginning of the book that are definitely worth the read though。

Amazing read! Curtis is an intelligent man! He gives great pointers on what it takes to become successful, how to see opportunities, the importance of discipline and proper discernment of influences, and so much more。 He gives an introspective view of his background and connects it to the portrayal of him we see to this day and age, a man who plays no games (unless it is to his benefit, of course。) If that alone doesn’t intrigue you, then please, get to reading! I promise your mindset will be di Amazing read! Curtis is an intelligent man! This one didn't disappoint me。 What I love about this book is 50 has not only talked about his life and upbringing but also shares some great life, work and business principles。 How to compete with the competition and sharing values and morals that you can apply to your personal, career or business life。 This one didn't disappoint me。 What I love about this book is 50 has not only talked about his life and upbringing but also shares some great life, work and business principles。 How to compete with the competition and sharing values and morals that you can apply to your personal, career or business life。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Curtis Jackson already wrote 'The 50th law'。 Not sure why he wants to write another other than to tell more stories on his life。 He is not perfect: One moment he said he will not mention name so that his friend will not suffer from lack of confidence and that he is sensitive, the next moment he pointed several flaws of people with real names。 But he dishes out pretty good advices。 Curtis Jackson already wrote 'The 50th law'。 Not sure why he wants to write another other than to tell more stories on his life。 He is not perfect: One moment he said he will not mention name so that his friend will not suffer from lack of confidence and that he is sensitive, the next moment he pointed several flaws of people with real names。 But he dishes out pretty good advices。 。。。more

As someone who grew up listening to HipHop and having 50 Cent as one of the most influential individuals in the field, I was eager to see what this book is about, and to be honest I was quite surprised to see Curtis Jackson write in such a "down to earth" way, giving that pretty much all of his music is narcissistic/egocentric oriented, surprisingly I did not feel that kind of energy on this book, and the overall storyline is perfect, motivational as hell。 This one is up there for a reread for s As someone who grew up listening to HipHop and having 50 Cent as one of the most influential individuals in the field, I was eager to see what this book is about, and to be honest I was quite surprised to see Curtis Jackson write in such a "down to earth" way, giving that pretty much all of his music is narcissistic/egocentric oriented, surprisingly I did not feel that kind of energy on this book, and the overall storyline is perfect, motivational as hell。 This one is up there for a reread for sure。 What I also personally loved about this book was that I experienced many similarities in terms of views/visions with Fifty , regarding the hustling mentality in general, dealing with crews, and not possessing entitlement as a psychological trait (even though our life storylines are made up of completely different elements/circumstances)。 。。。more

This has some excellent advice with some incredible stories。 As always, some of the advice can be found in other books, just packaged in a different way。 But this book seems to be more self-aware than many。 For example, 50 cent talks about how, after reading Robert Green's 48 laws of power, only one really stuck with him (never outshine your superiors), and it served him really well over the years。 Likewise, he hopes we find at least one of his rules that resonates with us and we can carry along This has some excellent advice with some incredible stories。 As always, some of the advice can be found in other books, just packaged in a different way。 But this book seems to be more self-aware than many。 For example, 50 cent talks about how, after reading Robert Green's 48 laws of power, only one really stuck with him (never outshine your superiors), and it served him really well over the years。 Likewise, he hopes we find at least one of his rules that resonates with us and we can carry along with us。 Some of my notes:“Fear dominates most people’s lives。 Fear of loss。 Fear of failure。 Fear of the unknown。 Fear of loneliness。”tThe thing most people are comfortable with is fear。 If you're afraid of flying, you don't fly。 If you're scared of going for it, you don't go for it。 This is very dangerous。 “If you’ve put in the work, and know your shit, raise your damn hand!”tYou can be really smart, but you need to speak up otherwise others won't know。 You may out-rhyme me, and even out-smart me, but you'll never out-hustle me。 The story about vitamin water is interestingVery interesting how/why other rappers around him didn't make itIf he comes up with a good rhyme now, he'll give it to a young rapper with tight jeans and facial tattoos, because no one will want to hear it from him。 His anecdote about Mike Pence's "won't eat with a woman without my wife present" is very interesting。 He leaked his "album" to bootleggers to create buzz, which seems like a great strategy。 He mentions how competition is good, and he seems to make use of it from the underdog point of view。 He will shoot for something doing better (targeting GoT when he has his show Power)。 He knows he won't win that battle, but it will get him more viewers and more buzz。 He also mentioned the tour in Switzerland where I saw him! (in passing but whatev)And boy, what a life。 I listened to the audiobook, narrated by 50 cent。 。。。more

This was a hard one to rate。 Was I entertained? Terribly。 Was it a good self help book? Hard to say。 I felt like he would give conflicting advice from chapter to chapter (ie always be honest and true to who you are vs。 don't be afraid to make people think you're something you're not) but it's probably good advice if you want to be a rapper turned tv producer? Highly recommend the audiobook to hear it all from 50 himself。 This was a hard one to rate。 Was I entertained? Terribly。 Was it a good self help book? Way more than expectedI'm a fan of Fif, but honestly wasn't sure if this wouldn't be some fluff just to sell books。 I read one his other books and enjoyed it, so I decided to take a swing。 I was pleasantly surprised at how informative, detailed and yet easy to read this book was。 If you need a jumpstart in your life or career I highly recommend this book。 It's also great whether you're 14 or 54。 Real gems, and a great look inside the mind of a truly successful entrepreneur。 Way more than expectedI'm a fan of Fif, but honestly wasn't sure if this wouldn't be some fluff just to sell books。 I read one his other books and enjoyed it, so I decided to take a swing。 I was pleasantly surprised at how informative, detailed and yet easy to read this book was。 If you need a jumpstart in your life or career I highly recommend this book。 It's also great whether you're 14 or 54。 Real gems, and a great look inside the mind of a truly successful entrepreneur。 。。。more

This book started out strong, and I really liked it。 It became heavy handed halfway in and started to read like a Curtis Jackson advertisement vs。 a narrative of his life (which I get is pretty much the case for any celebrity's autobiography, but I don't want to be reminded I'm being sold to throughout)。 I appreciate the moments of honesty, but they were often accompanied with what the other person did wrong。。。ssssoooooo the message wasn't as impactful to me。 I've read about the business cases h This book started out strong, and I really liked it。 It became heavy handed halfway in and started to read like a Curtis Jackson advertisement vs。 a narrative of his life (which I get is pretty much the case for any celebrity's autobiography, but I don't want to be reminded I'm being sold to throughout)。 I appreciate the moments of honesty, but they were often accompanied with what the other person did wrong。。。ssssoooooo the message wasn't as impactful to me。 I've read about the business cases he uses as examples in his book, and I'd have rather learned about his own experiences than textbook examples (Michael Jordan/Nike deal)。 I do like Jackson more and did learn from him, so maybe this venture was successful! 。。。more
