Summary

In this first book of a new illustrated middle grade series by a #1 New York Times-bestselling author, Marc learns to become a Warrior Kid after his uncle Jake, a Navy SEAL, comes to stay for the summer。

Fifth grade was the worst year of Marc's life。 He stunk at gym class, math was too hard for him, the school lunch was horrible, and his class field trip was ruined because he couldn't swim。 But what was most awful thing about fifth grade? Kenny Williamson, the class bully, who calls himself the "King of the Jungle。"

When Marc's mother tells him that his Uncle Jake is coming to stay for the whole summer, Marc can't wait。 Uncle Jake is a for real, super-cool Navy SEAL。 And Uncle Jake has a plan。

He's going to turn Marc into a warrior。

Becoming a warrior isn't easy。 It means a lot of pull ups, sit ups, pushups, squats, swimming, eating right, and studying harder than ever before! Can Marc transform himself into a warrior before school starts in the fall - and finally stand up to the King of the Jungle himself? Find out in Jocko Willink's Way of the Warrior Kid。

Fantastic message told in a story format that my kids enjoyed listening to and listened intently。 All 3 (age 10, 7, and 4) would ask for more the next time we got in the car。

There is no other book like this that inculcates good values, habits and self-discipline in kids。 In fact, this book took me down a peg or two, realising I could benefit from doing things better and learning from thisthe book。Jocko, you're a real hero that helps those that need help the most。 By them helping themselves。 Definitely a must read for kids and teens! My daughter requested I read this book while I was the hall monitor during standardized testing today。 I started and finished it in less than two hours。 This is a great, relatable read for kids。 Self-discipline is something everyone needs more of, so I highly value this book teaching children how to be better humans from a young age。 Definitely recommend this one!

Every parent should read this to their kids。 We finished last night and my 7-year-old decided to take a pen and paper to bed with him so he could practice his multiplication tables before he went to sleep。

In the book Marc was very bad at a lot of things。 This summer his uncle was coming over and he was very happy to see him because his uncle was in the Navy Seals。 The last day of school was Marc’s worst day。 At the end the book Marc had changed into a Kid Warrior。 He knew everything and he was very good at pulls and he dive from a bridge into the water。 This book encourages kids to never give up on something you should always work to complete your goal and。 Doing nothing will never complete nothi In the book Marc was very bad at a lot of things。 This summer his uncle was coming over and he was very happy to see him because his uncle was in the Navy Seals。 The last day of school was Marc’s worst day。 At the end the book Marc had changed into a Kid Warrior。 He knew everything and he was very good at pulls and he dive from a bridge into the water。 This book encourages kids to never give up on something you should always work to complete your goal and。 Doing nothing will never complete nothing。 。。。more

My 10 year-old son and I read this book together。 I've always enjoyed fiction that teaches a specific lesson -- and this book does that well。 Jocko Willink uses a fictitious character to show how discipline leads to a truly free life in which one's development of competence, strength, intellectual growth, and problem-solving leads to greater confidence and leadership potential -- traits that can then be used to help others。 My 10 year-old son and I read this book together。 I've always enjoyed fiction that teaches a specific lesson -- and this book does that well。 Jocko Willink uses a fictitious character to show how discipline leads to a truly free life in which one's development of competence, strength, intellectual growth, and problem-solving leads to greater confidence and leadership potential -- traits that can then be used to help others。 。。。more

I read it to my 4 and 6 year old。 I had to adjust some of the internal dialogue on the fly as I don't think they have or identify with those ideas yet (and I don't want to rush it)。 Specifically the negative self talk that older children and adults deal with, but I don't think children have to navigate the same way。 Either way, they easily understood and gravitated towards the principles and methods and I have been able to reinforce them with practical things in their life since reading it to th I read it to my 4 and 6 year old。 I had to adjust some of the internal dialogue on the fly as I don't think they have or identify with those ideas yet (and I don't want to rush it)。 Specifically the negative self talk that older children and adults deal with, but I don't think children have to navigate the same way。 Either way, they easily understood and gravitated towards the principles and methods and I have been able to reinforce them with practical things in their life since reading it to them。 。。。more

3。5。 Some great lessons here on character, discipline, and virtue。 Missing is the theological orientation toward God as the standard of virtue and character formation, as well as virtually no mention of the role of healthy friendship and community in the warrior path。 Nevertheless, some good principles and an engaging (bedtime) story。 Plus: it includes the importance of jiu-jitsu, which is an automatic win in my book! My 6 yr old really enjoyed it。

Here's the thing with this book。 I was meh with it。 Jocko isn't really my jam and I don't necessarily agree with all his philosophies。 However, my fifth grade class LOVED it。 I read it aloud to them and they couldn't get enough。 I used this book as a reward, when we had free time, and when the kids begged to read it。 I do think this is such a great book for kids ages 9-12。 It teaches them the value of hard work and perseverance and practice。 It's an easy read, the narrator is personable, and kid Here's the thing with this book。 I was meh with it。 Jocko isn't really my jam and I don't necessarily agree with all his philosophies。 However, my fifth grade class LOVED it。 I read it aloud to them and they couldn't get enough。 I used this book as a reward, when we had free time, and when the kids begged to read it。 I do think this is such a great book for kids ages 9-12。 It teaches them the value of hard work and perseverance and practice。 It's an easy read, the narrator is personable, and kids just love it。 。。。more

Wanted to get my kids to read it, but couldn't get them interested。My only complaint is that the mentor in the book is a soldier。 This is Jockos bread and butter。 However you don't need to have gone through the military to enact these life lessons。 While that point is affirmed many times over in Jocko's other works the format of this one limits in who the kid aspires to be like。 Wanted to get my kids to read it, but couldn't get them interested。My only complaint is that the mentor in the book is a soldier。 This is Jockos bread and butter。 However you don't need to have gone through the military to enact these life lessons。 While that point is affirmed many times over in Jocko's other works the format of this one limits in who the kid aspires to be like。 。。。more

I read this to my 8 year old son。 He loved it。 It's like diary of a wimpy kid, but with good morals。 This is about a 5th grade kid that is struggling and spends the summer with his Navy Seal uncle who teaches him how to study, how to get stronger and how to have discipline。 I read this to my 8 year old son。 He loved it。 It's like diary of a wimpy kid, but with good morals。 This is about a 5th grade kid that is struggling and spends the summer with his Navy Seal uncle who teaches him how to study, how to get stronger and how to have discipline。 。。。more

I have read some of Jocko's other books。 I really don't relate to the ultra-testosterone fill war stories, but he has good ways to think about business leadership。 So this way available from the library audiobook selection, so I finished in one day's commute。 I really struggle with how to prepare my kids for the challenges of life (build grit) and still have them feel unconditionally loved。 Those are not mutually exclusive, but I think they they feel that way to kids。 Being homebound during COVI I have read some of Jocko's other books。 I really don't relate to the ultra-testosterone fill war stories, but he has good ways to think about business leadership。 So this way available from the library audiobook selection, so I finished in one day's commute。 I really struggle with how to prepare my kids for the challenges of life (build grit) and still have them feel unconditionally loved。 Those are not mutually exclusive, but I think they they feel that way to kids。 Being homebound during COVID-19, doesn't help。 Like Jocko's other books, this one is not especially well-written, but I am going to give it to my 11 year old son specifically specifically to use as a context for a more nuanced conversation about effort, personally reasonability, and goals。 We'll see how it goes。 。。。more

This book has some good stuff in it for fourth or fifth grade readers。 The plot is very simple, the lexile is embarrassingly low, and the format is obviously dumbed down for wimpy readers。 The content is okay, largely believable。 It's a shot in the arm for kids who want to develop toughness。 This book has some good stuff in it for fourth or fifth grade readers。 The plot is very simple, the lexile is embarrassingly low, and the format is obviously dumbed down for wimpy readers。 The content is okay, largely believable。 It's a shot in the arm for kids who want to develop toughness。 。。。more
