Allie

Not my cup of tea, as they say。Too random, no flow, no point, more stupid humor than smart wit。 Odd and boring。

Mike Dyer-Evans

This book is by parts hilarious and heartbreaking。 It is much longer than Hyperbole and a Half, but I finished it in three sittings。 I strongly recommend。

Nick

Quick to read, witty and very enjoyable。

Wanted to love。 Blog was so funny and poignant。 I laughed at 2-3 of the anecdotes。 Several were cute。Most felt like a woman working through pain and sadness 。。。like a form of catharsis。 The stories were kind of disorganised and roaming, often without a clear thesis。 Maybe if I'd been through something similar this would resonate with me。 Glad she's writing again though, and looking forward to seeing what she next brings out。 Wanted to love。 Blog was so funny and poignant。 I laughed at 2-3 of the anecdotes。 Several were cute。Most felt like a woman working through pain and sadness 。。。like a form of catharsis。 The stories were kind of disorganised and roaming, often without a clear thesis。 Maybe if I'd been through something similar this would resonate with me。 Glad she's writing again though, and looking forward to seeing what she next brings out。 。。。more

I preferred her first book。

I read this whole book at once like greedy book goblin。 I had to take breaks to breathe from laughing too hard and also to wipe tears from all kinds of big feelings。

3。5 - Not as good as Hyperbole and a Half, but still love the honesty and rawness

This is more better than the hyperbole。 I think I can relate what Allie feel about her life。

This humorous graphic memoir is such a weird little item that I'm not at all sure which of my friends might like it -- but I did。 Written by a young woman who draws herself as a sort of bug, and who may be more comfortable with raw, candid self-disclosure than probably anyone I've ever read, it gives new definition to the word "weird"。 It's laugh-out-loud funny in many spots, and many of the laughs come from a cringing self-recognition on the reader's part。 The author explores such heavy topics This humorous graphic memoir is such a weird little item that I'm not at all sure which of my friends might like it -- but I did。 Written by a young woman who draws herself as a sort of bug, and who may be more comfortable with raw, candid self-disclosure than probably anyone I've ever read, it gives new definition to the word "weird"。 It's laugh-out-loud funny in many spots, and many of the laughs come from a cringing self-recognition on the reader's part。 The author explores such heavy topics as serious illness, a death in the family, loneliness, imploding relationships, and why it's okay to make fun of a dog that's now dead, with remarkable honesty and humility。 The last chapter, on the difficulty of becoming one's own best friend, is so far from a cliche that it made me almost cry。 。。。more

Brosh writes dogs and depression like no one else。 I originally scoffed at this, terrible illustrations, but man its engrossing。

Okay I’m glad that I gave Allie Brosh a second chance, this book was far better than the first! Really funny and I enjoyed the drawings。

Some very funny stories, but most of the book was more serious in tone which I wasn’t expecting。

Fact- The author is a recluse who suffers from severe depression and AHDH。 This is her second book。 Her first book ‘Hyperbole and a Half’ came out way back in 2013 and then she vanished for months on and off from her blogs and the internet。 This book was much awaited after the success of her first book! This book is humorous for most parts and a little slow and pointless in some places, but then that’s what Allie really talks about。 How everything is pretty pointless, but we still make sense of l Fact- The author is a recluse who suffers from severe depression and AHDH。 This is her second book。 Her first book ‘Hyperbole and a Half’ came out way back in 2013 and then she vanished for months on and off from her blogs and the internet。 This book was much awaited after the success of her first book! This book is humorous for most parts and a little slow and pointless in some places, but then that’s what Allie really talks about。 How everything is pretty pointless, but we still make sense of life to keep ourselves from going crazy! Allie talks about her childhood through the most hilarious anecdotes (opening scene is a three year old who gets trapped in a bucket!), but also dives deep into ideas of depression and loneliness and death。A good break in between serious reads, I’d say。 。。。more

It's hard to know how to rate this book。 Her first book made me laugh so much as I could relate hard to many of the things she'd written about but this one wasn't hitting me in the same way。 As I got further into the book I read about the things that went on around the time the first book was being released and began to understand why this book was leaving me more melancholy as I read it。 I still enjoyed it, still laughed at a number of stories she told, but this one hit me much harder, possibly It's hard to know how to rate this book。 Her first book made me laugh so much as I could relate hard to many of the things she'd written about but this one wasn't hitting me in the same way。 As I got further into the book I read about the things that went on around the time the first book was being released and began to understand why this book was leaving me more melancholy as I read it。 I still enjoyed it, still laughed at a number of stories she told, but this one hit me much harder, possibly because I read it during a week when I have been more down than I thought I'd be。I will still pick up future books and I hope to come back to this one when I'm doing better so I can enjoy it even more。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 I absolutely loved Hyperbole and a Half, so I was excited for this one。 There were parts where I was crying from laughing so hard, but overall I didn't like it as much as the first book。 Maybe I didn't relate to it as much。 It was still enjoyable though! 3。5 stars。 I absolutely loved Hyperbole and a Half, so I was excited for this one。 There were parts where I was crying from laughing so hard, but overall I didn't like it as much as the first book。 Maybe I didn't relate to it as much。 It was still enjoyable though! 。。。more

Allie Brosh is an incomparable artist。 She's like the depressed clown Pagliacci telling the joke about himself on stage in a way that is actually funny。 I wish her all peace and happiness, and if she never writes again I'll be glad for what she's done。 If she does write more books, though, I will read all of them。On this specific book:I laughed loudly a few times, and chuckled a lot。 Books almost never get me to do that。I cried! Twice。 That's even more unusual than the laughing。 The sad bits in Allie Brosh is an incomparable artist。 She's like the depressed clown Pagliacci telling the joke about himself on stage in a way that is actually funny。 I wish her all peace and happiness, and if she never writes again I'll be glad for what she's done。 If she does write more books, though, I will read all of them。On this specific book:I laughed loudly a few times, and chuckled a lot。 Books almost never get me to do that。I cried! I always adore Allie’s books。 Whether she has me laughing until I cry or just crying to cry, her books provide so much entertainment。

This is quite a different book when compared with Hyperbole and a Half。 I did not laugh as much though I still enjoyed it。 The stories were much deeper and I really appreciated her exploration of anxiety and depression and loss。 I could relate to her struggles—like trying to exercise the muscles needed to control anxiety。 The story about her trying to overcome her fears was probably my favorite。 That and her poor dog who ended up shaved and bloated and no one could tell they were a dog anymore。 This is quite a different book when compared with Hyperbole and a Half。 I did not laugh as much though I still enjoyed it。 The stories were much deeper and I really appreciated her exploration of anxiety and depression and loss。 I could relate to her struggles—like trying to exercise the muscles needed to control anxiety。 The story about her trying to overcome her fears was probably my favorite。 That and her poor dog who ended up shaved and bloated and no one could tell they were a dog anymore。 Her honesty about life and all it’s messiness is really refreshing。 。。。more

I wish this book was either lighter or bound different。 It was cumbersome。

Brosh’s book is, like her earlier work, both hilarious and tragic (you know, like life)。 I thought that the theme of “life is pointless” was a little heavy-handed, but don’t let that turn you away。 If you enjoyed Hyperbole and a Half, I believe you’ll enjoy this one, too。 Favorite Quotation: “That’s the scary thing about decisions: you don’t know what they are when you’re making them。”

Her first book was hilarious and I finished in hours and bought as gifts。。 Giggle fest。 I loved her drawings, tooThis was just not something I relate to, wrestling with self esteem, loneliness, divorce, her sisters death, her sisters odd friendship as a kid, facing fears by drug tripping and walking until lost? The parts about calling an Uber while on drugs and about adopting a cat were funny。。 The attempt at meditation and following obsession with a clerk she didn't know knitting everything in Her first book was hilarious and I finished in hours and bought as gifts。。 Giggle fest。 I loved her drawings, tooThis was just not something I relate to, wrestling with self esteem, loneliness, divorce, her sisters death, her sisters odd friendship as a kid, facing fears by drug tripping and walking until lost? I had to put this down every 20/30 pages as I was cry/laughing at some of the chapters。 Chapter 9-Bananas-sent me particularly over the edge。 There's something about this animation that I absolutely love。 I had to put this down every 20/30 pages as I was cry/laughing at some of the chapters。 Chapter 9-Bananas-sent me particularly over the edge。 There's something about this animation that I absolutely love。 。。。more
