Summary

From the top feline doctor in Japan comes a fun, practical, adorably illustrated "cat-to-human" translation guide to decoding your cat's feelings。

When your cat's tail is upright, she's saying hello。 If it's quivering? She's happy to see you。 But if it swishes ominously from side to side across your living room floor? Beware-your cat is annoyed。

With nineteen bones and twelve muscles, cats' tails have countless ways of expressing their emotions。 What Cats Want is here to uncover the meaning behind every movement, and the motivation beneath every quirk。 Did you know, for example, that adult cats love to reconnect with their inner kitten? Or that cats prefer multiple watering holes over just one? Our cats are sophisticated-no matter what any dog lover says-and What Cats Want has the answers to every question asked by cat owners young and old。

An invaluable new guide filled with creative tips and darling illustrations, What Cats Want provides a much-desired glimpse into the minds of our most mysterious pets。

Very insightful and educational。 A lot of the things mentioned in this book were things I already knew by owning a cat for many years but there’s always more to learn。

Very and suprisingly informative book。 Really enjoyed illustrations。 They are cute and sassy little cat depictions。 A little bit heavy handed on the diagnostic, watch out for this or that as abnormal signs of behaviour especially in old cats。 Makes it obvious this book is written by a vet - someone who knows what could be worrysome。 However this makes the book feel responsible rather than bad or lightweight。Drew my attention to the fact that I should film my cat when its sneezing or displaying b Very and suprisingly informative book。 Really enjoyed illustrations。 They are cute and sassy little cat depictions。 A little bit heavy handed on the diagnostic, watch out for this or that as abnormal signs of behaviour especially in old cats。 Makes it obvious this book is written by a vet - someone who knows what could be worrysome。 However this makes the book feel responsible rather than bad or lightweight。Drew my attention to the fact that I should film my cat when its sneezing or displaying bad symptoms, so I can better show my cat’s vet what is going on。As a child I would HAVE LOVED THIS BOOK。 。。。more

This book is perfect for the first time cat owner or a brush up on cat care for seasoned cat owners。 Dr。 Hattori explains everything well and the illustrations are a charming companion to his lessons。However, the best cat advice is to know your cat。 Some of the advice given will depend upon the personality of the cat / kitten。

I have had cats my entire life and have read numerous books about cats over the years, but there is always more to learn! This book is practical and easy to read。 It’s intended for adults, but kids might also enjoy reading this。 The graphic novel format makes it quick and simple to understand a broad range of topics。 I like Hattori’s compassionate approach to caring for and understanding cat behavior。 For instance, I never thought of giving a cat a treat after playing with them with a laser pointer, but it makes sense that it could be frustrating for them that they didn’t “catch” anything and they deserve a treat。 It’s also useful to think of the amount of treats I am giving my cat times twenty—if that seems like too many treats for me to eat, then it’s probably too many for my cat。 (Sorry Pancho, no wonder you’re fat!) Most of all, reading this book inspires me to try to be the best cat owner I can be。 My chonky little friend may never enjoy being picked up and cuddled (most cats don’t) but we can enjoy each other’s company in other ways。 。。。more

Really helpful book on understanding cats with adorable illustrations

I loved the cute illustrations! They kept the information from being too blocky, though the writing was easy to understand in itself。That said, I didn’t really learn anything major that I didn’t already know beforehand。 This book would be valuable for a new cat owner, but it’s more of a refresher for someone more experienced with cats。

Charming, easy to read book with cat care information for indoor cats。 The illustrations were cute and funny! The target audience seems to be for people relatively new to having cats; I found it useful as someone preparing to adopt one since I lack the common sense day-to-day information that experienced cat owners probably already know (and forget to tell you- their friend asking for advice)。

As a cat guardian, I found this book useful and handy。 Some fundamentals about cats biology, healthy diets and different diseases were introduced。 Also some tips were given to to prepare friendly environments for the indoor cats。 The facts about how cats express their emotions through their body language and vocal sounds were fascinating 8)。 I really liked the illustrative diagrams and the writing style which was a magazine style mixed with humor ;)。I encourage those who are thinking of raising As a cat guardian, I found this book useful and handy。 Some fundamentals about cats biology, healthy diets and different diseases were introduced。 Also some tips were given to to prepare friendly environments for the indoor cats。 The facts about how cats express their emotions through their body language and vocal sounds were fascinating 8)。 I really liked the illustrative diagrams and the writing style which was a magazine style mixed with humor ;)。I encourage those who are thinking of raising a cat to give it a go and read this book as it will be a good start for them。 For those who already have a cat, this book might make you understand your cat more thorough。 5/5 ==> deserved!!! 。。。more

A lovely illustrated guide to cats! I rescued a cat about a week ago, and this book was helpful in telling me what I needed to buy, how things should be laid out in my house, aswell as very important things like behavioural patterns, including what their meows means, health concerns to look out for, and just ways to make your cat happy! I am really glad that I own this as I know that I will be coming back to this book regularly to seek out information 🐈

Cute, but very basic。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 “A dog looks at her owners and thinks, ‘They give me shelter and food。 They love and protect me。 They must be gods!’ But a cat’s thought process is: ‘These humans give me food and shelter。 They love and protect me。 That means I must be the god!’”This does capture what might be called “cat psychology” rather well。 After all, who can be sure that our cats don’t regard us as their faithful servants?”Excerpt FromWhat Cats WantYuki Hattori

I checked this out (upon spotting it at the library) on a whim, after engaging in a few family discussions of questions like "How much control does the cat have over his tail?" That question was not answered by this book, sadly, but this was nonetheless a breezy guide to all things cat, and I learned some intriguing stuff。 As is true with many books and articles about cat care, however, I balked at the advice to clean the cat's teeth and cut his claws regularly。 (The last time I just tried to ge I checked this out (upon spotting it at the library) on a whim, after engaging in a few family discussions of questions like "How much control does the cat have over his tail?" That question was not answered by this book, sadly, but this was nonetheless a breezy guide to all things cat, and I learned some intriguing stuff。 As is true with many books and articles about cat care, however, I balked at the advice to clean the cat's teeth and cut his claws regularly。 (The last time I just tried to get the cat into his carrier, he scratched the bejeezus out of my arm, so I can't imagine him calmly letting me manhandle his mouth and paws without a serious fight。) I also resisted the general message that because I adopted a cat from the Humane Society, I will now center my entire life around his complete comfort and care。 (One of the reasons we opted for a cat is because they're low maintenance, for God's sake!) I had to laugh upon seeing, in the book, an illustrated floor plan for an ideal home for a cat。 I mean, seriously。 But again, I enjoyed learning about things like the hierarchy of senses for cats, the reflective coating behind their eyes, why they rub up against your legs, etc。 Fine but not not anything to write home about。 。。。more

A very cutely illustrated book on all things feline by Japan’s top cat behavioral specialist, Yuki Hattori。 After the heavy and dark topics of the previous books I’d read, this was a light affair that covers nearly all aspects of cat ownership。 An easy read, this book nonetheless covers a great deal and brings to light some things that I wasn’t previously aware of regarding my kitten companions。 As the owner of two healthy cats (an 8-year-old male tabby and a 7-year-old female tuxedo), I appreci A very cutely illustrated book on all things feline by Japan’s top cat behavioral specialist, Yuki Hattori。 After the heavy and dark topics of the previous books I’d read, this was a light affair that covers nearly all aspects of cat ownership。 An easy read, this book nonetheless covers a great deal and brings to light some things that I wasn’t previously aware of regarding my kitten companions。 As the owner of two healthy cats (an 8-year-old male tabby and a 7-year-old female tuxedo), I appreciated the insight that Dr。 Hattori divulges。And besides, who wouldn’t love these wonderful depictions of our mysterious friends? 。。。more
