Dated but still good foundational knowledgeI would assess this as more of a managerial recipe for transformational change than actually Leading Change。 There is a constant admonition to LEAD or be a LEADER within a Management oriented Eight Stage Process。

Simple and practical approach to managing change in organizations。 While it appears from the book and the stated examples that the approach largely works for large organizations, I have seen that it is even more important in smaller organizations。 Especially from my own experience of having handled about half-a-dozen change interventions, I felt in hindsight that having read this earlier could have helped me correct the small mistakes I made and I could have been better at handling them。 Would r Simple and practical approach to managing change in organizations。 While it appears from the book and the stated examples that the approach largely works for large organizations, I have seen that it is even more important in smaller organizations。 Especially from my own experience of having handled about half-a-dozen change interventions, I felt in hindsight that having read this earlier could have helped me correct the small mistakes I made and I could have been better at handling them。 Would recommend this as a mandatory read for every business professional。 。。。more

Sách viết khá tốt。 Một số điểm tâm đắc 1。 Phải tạo tính cấp bách, làm ngay, làm luôn, không tự mãn, chần chừ2。 Lãnh đạo làm gương3。 Thay đổi văn hóa là rất khó, muốn thay đổi nó, hãy làm cuối cùng4。 Ghi nhận các chiến thắng nhỏ, phải có kế hoạch chắc chắn chiến thắng nhỏ phải diễn ra。5。 Học tập suốt đời

Great Insights into Change and LeadershipThis was a very enjoyable business book to read。 It was short and concise, which is a breath of fresh air for business books。 Some books are very repetitive and filled with examples which can be exhausting to read as the same points are made over and over again。 In this book, the points are succinct and the examples simple。 The focus is on the need for leadership, the steps for change, and the hard work needed to go through those steps。 No sugar coating h Great Insights into Change and LeadershipThis was a very enjoyable business book to read。 It was short and concise, which is a breath of fresh air for business books。 Some books are very repetitive and filled with examples which can be exhausting to read as the same points are made over and over again。 In this book, the points are succinct and the examples simple。 The focus is on the need for leadership, the steps for change, and the hard work needed to go through those steps。 No sugar coating here!I think this is a great book for anyone working in a corporate environment。 Leaders about to embark on a large change effort or those at any level who are in the middle of such change。I would recommend this book because it is honest, straightforward and thought provoking。 It is an easy and interesting read。 。。。more

This book is foundational to the SAFe framework and after reading you understand why。 The wealth of case studies and examples convincingly support the claims in this book。 At the same time the eight steps provide an easy to follow template for organizational transformation, so urgently needed still in many organizations today。

Christie Mugler

This contains and describes the eight stages that are restated in all other publications。

This book is a must-have for all Change agents around the Globe。 Kotter shows, in such a simple manner, how much complexity one faces when trying to change things around in the corporate world without the help/sponsorship of the ones calling the shots。A great book to understand the very basics of change management and to analyze what is and isn’t being done on a daily basis for each business to strive。

A good overview on the key steps to leading change。 Also a good reference to go back to when in the process。 Although the examples relate to big organizations, I found everything relevant for a small business as well。 However, I agree with some fellow reviewers who have mentioned the book is not quite motivating and it's a little depressing。 I understand the importance of the steps, but the examples and explanations leave little to no room for flexibility or grey areas, which to me is unrealisti A good overview on the key steps to leading change。 Also a good reference to go back to when in the process。 Although the examples relate to big organizations, I found everything relevant for a small business as well。 However, I agree with some fellow reviewers who have mentioned the book is not quite motivating and it's a little depressing。 I understand the importance of the steps, but the examples and explanations leave little to no room for flexibility or grey areas, which to me is unrealistic。 。。。more

A compelling framework for considering change, tautly delivered in this efficient volume。 I’m late to the party here, I know, but Kotter’s ideas about leadership have shed very well。

Awesome read that still holds up today。 Just about anyone who's worked in the corporate world will be able to identify with the scenarios presented in this book。 Completely commonsense suggestions that are still very much needed in the workforce。 Awesome read that still holds up today。 Just about anyone who's worked in the corporate world will be able to identify with the scenarios presented in this book。 Completely commonsense suggestions that are still very much needed in the workforce。 。。。more

I know this was written a while ago (1996 - 27 years?!?!?) but I decided to read it anyways because it is a well known guide to leading during change and organizations are constantly changing。 Kotter's predictions for the future are surprisingly on point and his tips for being a change leader are even more relevant today。 Although his style of writing is a little different than new leadership based books today I still really enjoyed it and it gave me a lot to think on。 I especially liked the las I know this was written a while ago (1996 - 27 years?!?!?) but I decided to read it anyways because it is a well known guide to leading during change and organizations are constantly changing。 Kotter's predictions for the future are surprisingly on point and his tips for being a change leader are even more relevant today。 Although his style of writing is a little different than new leadership based books today I still really enjoyed it and it gave me a lot to think on。 I especially liked the last chapter on Lifelong Learners; as someone who is passionate about constant learning and growth this chapter really spoke to me and inspired me to keep my focus on learning。 。。。more

Overly repetitive, but very sticky concepts。 Would benefit from utilizing more theory and less experiential anecdotes。

Similar in format and content to every other leadership book I have read。 Very vague guidance, overly simplified examples and full of filler to get to the proper “weight”。 I was not impressed。

An excellent book。 The author details his model clearly, with lucid examples of how the steps to change can be effective or not。 The interesting part in the book is how he correlates the changes in the external environment with the need for change in the organization, along with detailing how leadership can be developed by individuals themselves, and how the organization structure can hinder or aid the transformation。He has correctly pointed out the role that values and culture play in changing An excellent book。 The author details his model clearly, with lucid examples of how the steps to change can be effective or not。 The interesting part in the book is how he correlates the changes in the external environment with the need for change in the organization, along with detailing how leadership can be developed by individuals themselves, and how the organization structure can hinder or aid the transformation。He has correctly pointed out the role that values and culture play in changing the behaviours in the organization。 I saw a lot of parallels in other books like Future Search (which how to drive large scale change) and The Goal, which addresses the need for change in organizations and how/what to do。It's a must read for leaders, HR professionals, Function Heads, entrepreneurs and those interested in developing themselves as leaders。 。。。more

Brett Fitzgerald

Good content。 Could have been slimmed down。

Ian Constable

Standard leadership practices。 Does a decent job of pointing out the differences between leading and managing。

Wilhelm Eklund

This is an absolute must read for anyone who want to achieve change in an organisation。Many common mistakes are explained well。 Things one naturally does with good intentions, but it lowers the level of urgency in the organisation, making continued change harder。The 8 step model of change is a classic。

Katherine Coble

A little dry but solid theory on how to go about introducing and sustaining lasting change in an organization。 It did spark some good ideas that I can carry into my business, and it was definitely solid theory。

Kiryl Baranoshnik

You can read the table of contents of the book and you have already read it。 The book could have easily be a blog post。 The whole narrative is built around the 8 points of the Kotter's change model。 Everything else is anecdotes about fictitious leaders and executives which to me all looked contrived。 You can read the table of contents of the book and you have already read it。 The book could have easily be a blog post。 The whole narrative is built around the 8 points of the Kotter's change model。 Everything else is anecdotes about fictitious leaders and executives which to me all looked contrived。 。。。more

To lead or to manage, that is the question。 Or, maybe a bit of both。 What's the secret sauce? This book is the wise sage you need to speak with。 Kotter doesn't provide a neat 'how to' manual, rather you get principles that act as guide rails as you go make a difference in our world。 Allow yourself to envision who you want to become and you'll love this book。 To lead or to manage, that is the question。 Or, maybe a bit of both。 What's the secret sauce? This book is the wise sage you need to speak with。 Kotter doesn't provide a neat 'how to' manual, rather you get principles that act as guide rails as you go make a difference in our world。 Allow yourself to envision who you want to become and you'll love this book。 。。。more

This book was a little repetitive; I felt like after the second chapter I had a good understanding of the concepts the book expressed。 Nevertheless, it’s a classic in its industry。

Wow, John presents such great material。 Every one who is a leader and wants to be one should read this。 The principles are profound。“Only leadership can get change to stick by anchoring it in the very culture of an organization。”
