This book was a very basic guideline， but it has very beautiful pictures。 Moreover， there were a few comparisons of scale of things which were splendid。 For example， concentration of sulphites in wine vs。 in coke/dried fruits or volume of wine produced around the world vs。 area of a city。

The book takes the oftentimes overwhelming science， geography and art of wine， and explains all the basics in ways the average lay person can easily grasp and enjoy。Using charts， graphs， diagrams， pictographs， and maps， the book takes the reader through the world of wine in an extremely logical way， step by step， and leaves the reader with a good basic grounding of the subject。
