There is nothing I could say that could somehow add to the， fully deserved， reputation of this book。 Read it and be amazed by its depth and reach; you will find yourself reading it again and again over the years just like I have。

I enjoyed the beginning of the series the most。 There was just something so inviting about the Shire that made me want to read more about it。 Of course， since this book is from a different era than the usual books I read， I do have some complaints。 I just felt like the fighting scenes， especially towards the end weren't interesting to me。 I enjoyed much of the worldbuilding-learning about hobbits and the Ents and elves-and loved learning about Sam and Frodo's personalities。 However， it did feel I enjoyed the beginning of the series the most。 There was just something so inviting about the Shire that made me want to read more about it。 Of course， since this book is from a different era than the usual books I read， I do have some complaints。 I just felt like the fighting scenes， especially towards the end weren't interesting to me。 I enjoyed much of the worldbuilding-learning about hobbits and the Ents and elves-and loved learning about Sam and Frodo's personalities。 However， it did feel a little prolonged by the end of the books。 Maybe it was just because the book is super long， but either way the story felt very slow at some points。 The ending I liked。 I won't give much away， but I liked the conclusion of the ring。 I liked seeing how it affected everyone's sanity。 It made it seem like there was a huge consequence， so when we finally reached the end of the book， it felt satisfying。 Really with this book， there was a lot I liked and a lot I didn't enjoy。 Either way， I'm still glad I read it。 Of course， I understand that some people may feel differently because this is a beloved series。 It was well written and I can see why people would enjoy it so much， but even though I liked it， I just didn't fall in love with the book。 。。。more

5 estrellas。He de decir que se trata de la edición definitiva， en cursiva porque seguro que hacen otra en algún futuro no muy lejano， publicada en 2014 en base a algún tipo de conmemoración， y que la he leído en inglés original。 Para que os hagáis una idea， es esta: Que no es tarea fina， porque está escrita en un inglés a medias arcaico y a medias demasiado culto， con muchas palabras que no aparecen ni en el New Oxford Shorter （que es un diccionario de dos tomos tamaño folio de varias miles de 5 estrellas。He de decir que se trata de la edición definitiva， en cursiva porque seguro que hacen otra en algún futuro no muy lejano， publicada en 2014 en base a algún tipo de conmemoración， y que la he leído en inglés original。 Para que os hagáis una idea， es esta: Que no es tarea fina， porque está escrita en un inglés a medias arcaico y a medias demasiado culto， con muchas palabras que no aparecen ni en el New Oxford Shorter （que es un diccionario de dos tomos tamaño folio de varias miles de páginas）。Han sido muchas horas dedicadas a la atenta lectura del libro， con paradas técnicas para intentar entender qué está diciendo Tolkien。 De hecho a veces me ha tocado leer la edición en español que tengo， la de Minotauro original， por lo que me he dado cuenta de otra cosa: la traducción está muy bien hecha y copia la magia del Tolkien original， por lo que no hay que denostarla。Otra de las cosas que se ha acusado a Minotauro es que no corrigió las posteriores ediciones con la edición definitiva original。 Me refiero a cuando publicó los libros en otras ediciones diferentes a la de los tres tomos originales。 Pues bien， las diferencia no son tantas， y desde luego no desvirtúan para nada el texto en español， que ya he dicho me parece más que correcto。No obstante， teniendo acceso al Companion， que recoge los cambios habidos， sí que me toca un poco la moral que el señor Cuervo no haya consentido en hacer una edición corregida。 Ya sabemos， las iba a vender igual。 En fin， es lo que hay。La edición creo que contiene una sola ilustración （aparte de la de la puerta de Moria）， pero cada tomo tiene al menos un mapa， que está adosado al final （y al principio en el tercer tomo） y se despliega por fuera del propio libro， lo que permite la consulta mientras se lee。—La lectura la he hecho en conjunción con el Companion （que es el cuarto volumen que aparece en la foto de arriba）， y en cierta medida me ha servido para entender algunas de las cosas del argumento， como quién es Tom Bombadil en realidad （al menos hasta el punto en que el autor y los estudiosos llegan）。Dicho complemento aclara muchas cosas， te da una idea de las fechas y la sincronización entre hilos argumentales， y explica palabras y términos， aunque a veces se pierde en prolijidades un tanto barrocas。No por eso deja de ser enormemente útil， y es de ahí donde he sacado en claro algunas frases que， en el momento de la lectura， no entendí。 Esto resulta un tanto curioso， porque aun pese a carecer de la definición de la palabra， por el contexto terminas haciéndote una idea del significado y significante， idea que posteriormente queda aclarada en el Companion y， si este no termina de explicarlo bien， en la edición en español。La lectura ha sido simultánea。 Es decir， leía un capítulo del libro para luego volver a revisar el equivalente del Companion， de modo que la lectura， aunque interrumpida， ha sido mucho más enriquecedora。Ya para finalizar， comentar que en algunos sitios se recoge que esta edición tiene 1472 páginas， lo que no es cierto。 Los tres libros suman （o más bien son， ya que la paginación continua y no vuelve a uno en cada tomo） 1178 páginas， más el Companion， que son otras 874 páginas。 。。。more

Like descriptive writing？ Love descriptive writing？ Then are you in for a treat！ The story is interesting and the characters are well written。 My only complaint is the microscopic detail that Tolkien goes into with things that I don't really care to know about。 You can only describe a tree so much before you end up just perusing the page to find where the action picks back up。 Overall though， a great epic fantasy。 Like descriptive writing？ Love descriptive writing？ Then are you in for a treat！ The story is interesting and the characters are well written。 My only complaint is the microscopic detail that Tolkien goes into with things that I don't really care to know about。 You can only describe a tree so much before you end up just perusing the page to find where the action picks back up。 Overall though， a great epic fantasy。 。。。more
