Summary

The #1 New York Times all-star creative team of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo and Danny Miki introduce an all-new Dark Knight, with guest appearances by Brian Azzarello (WONDER WOMAN) and Jock (BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR)。

Following the disappearance and presumed death of Batman, former police commissioner Jim Gordon has been called to carry on the Dark Knight’s legacy and become his successor。

But while the name and what it stands for remain the same, this new Batman is far from just a copy of the original。 Patrolling the city in a gargantuan high-tech Batsuit, Gordon is no shadowy vigilante。 He has the full cooperation of the GCPD and the mayor, plus a multimillion-dollar budget from Powers International。

But will an expensive suit be enough to stop the mysterious, weed-like Mr。 Bloom before his deadly plans for the city take root?

Collects BATMAN #41-45 and DC SNEAK PEEK: BATMAN #1。

This is the most mixed bag of reading I have ever done。 While I didn't like a "punk rock" Jim Gordon donned as the Batman, I can see why DC choose him to fill the Batman's shoes (apart from how unexpected it would be)。 But the idea of a learn as you go Batman really undermines the legitimacy of the real Batman's abilities。A collection of Batman 41-46 and material from DC Comics: Divergence this hardcover is a story I enjoyed reading。 The idea that Gotham City needs to replace Batman, the side pl This is the most mixed bag of reading I have ever done。 While I didn't like a "punk rock" Jim Gordon donned as the Batman, I can see why DC choose him to fill the Batman's shoes (apart from how unexpected it would be)。 But the idea of a learn as you go Batman really undermines the legitimacy of the real Batman's abilities。A collection of Batman 41-46 and material from DC Comics: Divergence this hardcover is a story I enjoyed reading。 The idea that Gotham City needs to replace Batman, the side plot that Bruce Wayne is suffering from amnesia are very good ideas and offer a plethora of possibilities as to where the story can go。While the vast majority of the art work is (in my opinion) well done, it had the nostalgic feel of the John Byrne era of Marvel comics (no disrespect intended to DC fans)。 The chiseled features and bright colors added much to my enjoyment to the reading。 But a Batman who looks like he has issues with anorexia was a bit too much for me。 I kept finding myself noticing that many of the female characters in the story appeared to be much more physically fit than Jim/Batman。My 3 stars go completely to the story and it's possibilities。 If the artwork had been more constant to my liking I would have rated it much higher。。 。。。more

Possibly the worst Batman book I've ever read and not a surprise given how poor Scott Snyder's work has been in this final stretch。 he should have been retired from the series and moved on to other things at this point before it started going downhill。 the story is just absurd and annoying and idiotic and I did not enjoy it at all。 I don't see how anyone could and I don't know how it got published。 Possibly the worst Batman book I've ever read and not a surprise given how poor Scott Snyder's work has been in this final stretch。 he should have been retired from the series and moved on to other things at this point before it started going downhill。 the story is just absurd and annoying and idiotic and I did not enjoy it at all。 I don't see how anyone could and I don't know how it got published。 。。。more

'Whoever I was。。。 I'm not that person anymore。 I can't be。' Just 4 stars for me。 Slightly strange choice to have Bruce Wayne remember nothing and Gordon take on the bat suit。 Mr。 Bloom is ace but not enough of him and too much of other, slightly, miscellaneous plot lines。 'Whoever I was。。。 I'm not that person anymore。 I can't be。' Just 4 stars for me。 Slightly strange choice to have Bruce Wayne remember nothing and Gordon take on the bat suit。 Mr。 Bloom is ace but not enough of him and too much of other, slightly, miscellaneous plot lines。 。。。more

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue their stellar run, and mix it up with a fresh, unique take on batman。 Many people have worn the cowl over the years, but this is new even with that concept。 Highly recommend the whole run。

I remember the buzz around this arc back then。 "Bruce Wayne has amnesia and Jim Gordon is the new Batman"; I remember some comments about how it was surprisingly effective, but in hindsight, replacing the billionaire playboy with a police officer that wants to act without oversight as Batman was not the best idea。Still, Superheavy feels more like a middle chapter, just a bridge between something and Bloom, and I guess that's my main issue, Superheavy doesn't stand on its own, and though Bloom fi I remember the buzz around this arc back then。 "Bruce Wayne has amnesia and Jim Gordon is the new Batman"; I remember some comments about how it was surprisingly effective, but in hindsight, replacing the billionaire playboy with a police officer that wants to act without oversight as Batman was not the best idea。Still, Superheavy feels more like a middle chapter, just a bridge between something and Bloom, and I guess that's my main issue, Superheavy doesn't stand on its own, and though Bloom finishes the work, I feel like there's a whole first chapter missing。 We go from the chaos of Endgame, to a couple of issues of calm here, and then chaos again in Bloom; the quiet and personal moments that Graveyard Shift gave us between Zero Year and Endgame work because they are a breather, but Superheavy is not a breather, is just setup for the next Gotham destruction event, which at this point seems to be the basic approach by Snyder and Capullo。 。。。more

An odd one。 Takes an interesting idea and then doesn't really do much with it。 A dull and too long flashback interrupts the flow in the middle, Gordon as this Batman just isn't credible, turning into a well-built action ex-marine from the old chain smoker he was before。 The Powers corporation appear from nowhere, Bruce is very dull and the Clark Kent cameo makes no sense - if he's there, why isn't Superman around to fight the bad guy? Scott Snyder, as a writer on the Batman books, spent a good deal of time showing how valuable an ally Commissioner Gordon really was。 Now, after Bruce Wayne has forgotten his time as Batman and seems to be happy for the first time in his life, there's no Batman to protect Gotham and the decision is made: give Gordon a high-tech battle suit and let him be a new GCPD-affiliated Batman。 Gordon spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to be Batman while still navigating both the police and the Scott Snyder, as a writer on the Batman books, spent a good deal of time showing how valuable an ally Commissioner Gordon really was。 Now, after Bruce Wayne has forgotten his time as Batman and seems to be happy for the first time in his life, there's no Batman to protect Gotham and the decision is made: give Gordon a high-tech battle suit and let him be a new GCPD-affiliated Batman。 Gordon spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to be Batman while still navigating both the police and the corporate red tape that restricts his actions, keeping him from doing what he sees as the right thing。 It's an interesting concept, one that is maybe only halfway told as the mysterious new villain Mr。 Bloom is running around town, wrecking everything he can for, as yet, reasons unknown。Gordon as Batman is an interesting idea, one showing how Gordon is basically a good man who may or may not be cut out to be a vigilante but will do anything he can to protect his city。 。。。more

MehAfter already reading a detective comic volume with Jim Gordon as Batman I really didn't expect much from this comic。。。。。 I didn't get it either。 They've turned loveable cop Jim in to a total douche looking solider boy and given him an Ironbatman to go police the city。 The slenderman villain feels like some child drew in nursery and says "thats who visits me in my sleep" and they acted upon it and put it in a Batman comic。 Glad I've finished it, hopefully the next volume will be better。 MehAfter already reading a detective comic volume with Jim Gordon as Batman I really didn't expect much from this comic。。。。。 I didn't get it either。 They've turned loveable cop Jim in to a total douche looking solider boy and given him an Ironbatman to go police the city。 The slenderman villain feels like some child drew in nursery and says "thats who visits me in my sleep" and they acted upon it and put it in a Batman comic。 Glad I've finished it, hopefully the next volume will be better。 。。。more

The best part of this book is the idea of Bruce Wayne as The Batmans afterlife。Theres not much going on with Jim Gordon as Batman, I preferred the inner character conflict seen in Knightquest with Azrael。The art in this series is always nice, Plascencia's colouring always stand out for me。Dr Blooms character design is also pretty cool。 The best part of this book is the idea of Bruce Wayne as The Batmans afterlife。Theres not much going on with Jim Gordon as Batman, I preferred the inner character conflict seen in Knightquest with Azrael。The art in this series is always nice, Plascencia's colouring always stand out for me。Dr Blooms character design is also pretty cool。 。。。more

Meh。 It's not really that bad, but it's definitely less interesting than the story arcs that came out in the run before。 The only thing that really stuck with me reading this book is that Snyder really likes Batman to be helped by other people。 Gordon's Batman, in particular, is really human。I particularly dislike how in the New 52 run Batman is always seen by the public as a good guy, and this view is particularly evident in this arc。 Meh。 It's not really that bad, but it's definitely less interesting than the story arcs that came out in the run before。 The only thing that really stuck with me reading this book is that Snyder really likes Batman to be helped by other people。 Gordon's Batman, in particular, is really human。I particularly dislike how in the New 52 run Batman is always seen by the public as a good guy, and this view is particularly evident in this arc。 。。。more

I was a little skeptical when I started this book, but it actually wasn't too bad。 Definitely a different type of Batman (but that was kinda the point right?) and I'm not sure that Gordan was the best pick for a replacement Batman。 An older chain-smoking guy with several close family ties, but he's an established character, a veteran police officer and he's assisted by technology。 I didn't mind the power armor Bat-suit (it wasn't as cool as the one that Bruce Wayne had when fighting the Court of I was a little skeptical when I started this book, but it actually wasn't too bad。 Definitely a different type of Batman (but that was kinda the point right?) and I'm not sure that Gordan was the best pick for a replacement Batman。 An older chain-smoking guy with several close family ties, but he's an established character, a veteran police officer and he's assisted by technology。 I didn't mind the power armor Bat-suit (it wasn't as cool as the one that Bruce Wayne had when fighting the Court of Owls) but I did get an anime-like bunny feel about it。Overall, I enjoyed this storyline。 I think it helps to go in a little open-minded and you'll do fine。 Its not the Batman that we all love and have come to expect but it works for what they needed to do to continue the story from Endgame。 。。。more

One issue was really great and relevant as original Batman tries to discover how a dead boy came to be in the middle of a marsh。 After eliminating the usual suspects, he has to face a hard truth。 The others are just meh as Gordon takes over the Robo-Batman program。 If you read Zero Year (which I recently did) then Bloom's identity seems pretty obvious and he looks pretty ridiculous。 One issue was really great and relevant as original Batman tries to discover how a dead boy came to be in the middle of a marsh。 After eliminating the usual suspects, he has to face a hard truth。 The others are just meh as Gordon takes over the Robo-Batman program。 If you read Zero Year (which I recently did) then Bloom's identity seems pretty obvious and he looks pretty ridiculous。 。。。more

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this。 When I heard the plot it all seemed so ludicrous。 Jim Gordon as Batman? GTFO! A villain that hands out seeds that grants people powers?
