Summary

New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones is back with the first novel in the brand-new snarky, sassy, wickedly fun Sunshine Vicram seriesA Bad Day for Sunshine

"Laugh-out-loud funny, intensely suspenseful, page-turning fun。" - New York Times Bestselling author Allison Brennan

"A Bad Day For Sunshine is a great day for the rest of us。" - Lee Child, New York Times bestselling author

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram finds her cup o’ joe more than half full when the small village of Del Sol, New Mexico, becomes the center of national attention for a kidnapper on the loose。

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee—and, now, a nationwide manhunt? Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff—thanks to her adorably meddlesome parents who nominated her—and she expects her biggest crime wave to involve an elderly flasher named Doug。 But a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place。 Add to that the trouble at her daughter’s new school, plus and a kidnapped prized rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny。

But even clouds have their silver linings。 This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old-flame, and a fiery-hot US Marshall。 With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger。 Can Sunshine face the call of duty—and find the kidnapper who's terrorizing her beloved hometown—without falling head over high heels in love。。。or worse?

This novel has a lot to offer。 It is very funny。 It has a few mysteries。 The main character is a strong female raising another strong female。 I can't wait to read the next novel in the series。 This novel has a lot to offer。 It is very funny。 It has a few mysteries。 The main character is a strong female raising another strong female。 I can't wait to read the next novel in the series。 。。。more

A mystery which starts out on the new Sheriff's first day in a small town in New Mexico。 Sunshine grew up in the town and was elected to the position。 Her parent and the rest of the town elected her without Sunshine's knowledge, a fact that has Sunshine wondering how this all happened。Sybil had been having dreams of being killed on her 15th birthday。 Although she shared her dreams with her parents and others no one believed her until she went missing three days before her birthday。 It's Sunshine A mystery which starts out on the new Sheriff's first day in a small town in New Mexico。 Sunshine grew up in the town and was elected to the position。 Her parent and the rest of the town elected her without Sunshine's knowledge, a fact that has Sunshine wondering how this all happened。Sybil had been having dreams of being killed on her 15th birthday。 Although she shared her dreams with her parents and others no one believed her until she went missing three days before her birthday。 It's Sunshine first responsibility is to find Sybil before her abductor kills her。 。。。more

Liked the female lead being stronger and not quite as scatter brained as in other books。 Lots of fun dialogue but skims over consequences。

I mean, yeah, Sunshine Vicram is funny and it’s great to see how the author uses humor when crazy sh*t is supposedly happening in that small town。 However, it got old real fast。 I didn’t feel like she was a real character。 Might’ve helped if we would’ve gotten more information on her past。 I just couldn’t connect with any character。 They were all so fake。 You spend like 90% of the book trying to figure out what happened and they solve most things in the last few pages。 I don’t know, I feel like I mean, yeah, Sunshine Vicram is funny and it’s great to see how the author uses humor when crazy sh*t is supposedly happening in that small town。 However, it got old real fast。 I didn’t feel like she was a real character。 Might’ve helped if we would’ve gotten more information on her past。 I just couldn’t connect with any character。 They were all so fake。 You spend like 90% of the book trying to figure out what happened and they solve most things in the last few pages。 I don’t know, I feel like this book is too overhyped。 It’s fun-ish to read but there are too many reviews saying how amazing this book is, so I just had to say: meh, it’s fine。 。。。more

Sunshine becomes the new sheriff in town by a unanimous vote。 Sunshine had a traumatic experience when she was 17。 While solving other crimes she is always looking for her abductor。 Auri is her daughter,14。They moved back to Del Sol to live near Sun’s parents。 Good, easy read。

4。5。 Thoroughly entertaining! Can't wait to read next book! Totally invested。 Humor through the roof。Best Quotes: "Sunshine had just given birth to a six pound velocirapter。" "Sunshine was about as tan as notebook paper。" "I don't know what you were dreaming about, but I'd like to place my order now。" 4。5。 Thoroughly entertaining! I was looking forward to this series since I am looking forward to something to fill up the Charley-Davidson-shaped hole in my TBR。 But。。。LIKES:✔ Gender-bending。 First time reading about a female that is a sheriff of some town。✔ HumorDISLIKES:✘ All over the place。 This type of narration worked for the Charley Davidson series because Charlie was the narrator and she had ADHD。 But in 'A Bad Day for Sunshine' we have multiple narrators, so it just looks like it needs more editing。✘ Too many POVs✘ S I was looking forward to this series since I am looking forward to something to fill up the Charley-Davidson-shaped hole in my TBR。 But。。。LIKES:✔ Gender-bending。 First time reading about a female that is a sheriff of some town。✔ HumorDISLIKES:✘ All over the place。 This type of narration worked for the Charley Davidson series because Charlie was the narrator and she had ADHD。 But in 'A Bad Day for Sunshine' we have multiple narrators, so it just looks like it needs more editing。✘ Too many POVs✘ Sunshine Vikram has the hots for the man that is currently in the room with her。 It changes in every chapter。 WTF✘ The plot starts in the middle。 We do not know what happened, what is happening etc。 I do not like mystery books like this。I am going to give this series another chance and read the next book too。 it has potential but it's so scattered it was very hard to read。 。。。more

Enjoyable, but a bit slow moving detective/romance。 There was a bit more of the high school aspect than I had expected。 Be warned, the characters vomit a lot。 The detecting was very slow。 I figured out the villain and am pretty certain that I have figured out the unresolved plot element from the past。 I will be quite disappointed if that isn’t wrapped up in book 2。 Characters are vivid and well defined。 I listened to the audiobook and liked the narrator。Nice to have a cozy police procedural set Enjoyable, but a bit slow moving detective/romance。 There was a bit more of the high school aspect than I had expected。 Be warned, the characters vomit a lot。 The detecting was very slow。 I figured out the villain and am pretty certain that I have figured out the unresolved plot element from the past。 I will be quite disappointed if that isn’t wrapped up in book 2。 Characters are vivid and well defined。 I listened to the audiobook and liked the narrator。Nice to have a cozy police procedural set in New Mexico。 。。。more

Jones really knows how to hit a book out of the park。 While I enjoy what I've read so far from her Charley Davidson series, I think I like this series even better。 There seems to be less of a supernatural element to this series while still maintaining the sense of humor she's known for。 Her characters are fully realized, relatable, and people you want to hang out with。 The New Mexico setting is a novel one to me。 I can wait to read the next in the series。 Jones really knows how to hit a book out of the park。 While I enjoy what I've read so far from her Charley Davidson series, I think I like this series even better。 There seems to be less of a supernatural element to this series while still maintaining the sense of humor she's known for。 Her characters are fully realized, relatable, and people you want to hang out with。 The New Mexico setting is a novel one to me。 I can wait to read the next in the series。 。。。more

There’s a lot about this book that I like: enemies to lovers, murder mystery, laugh out loud moments, buddy comedy, romance, YA contemporary romance, supernatural abilities, revenge, sexy scenes, family drama。。。Unfortunately, it tried to be ALL these things all the time。 Frankly keeping up with the character list was a constant chore。 Then we got new characters every time a revelation occurred。 It was a lot。But there was still a lot to like。 I’m curious about how things will pan out going forwar There’s a lot about this book that I like: enemies to lovers, murder mystery, laugh out loud moments, buddy comedy, romance, YA contemporary romance, supernatural abilities, revenge, sexy scenes, family drama。。。Unfortunately, it tried to be ALL these things all the time。 Frankly keeping up with the character list was a constant chore。 Then we got new characters every time a revelation occurred。 It was a lot。But there was still a lot to like。 I’m curious about how things will pan out going forward, so I’ll continue the series。 。。。more

I guess I enjoyed this for the most part though perhaps there were aspects that seemed a bit unbelievable (ie figuring out who the abductor is and a teenage detective savant) but yeah it was alright。 I'd give it a C+。 I guess I enjoyed this for the most part though perhaps there were aspects that seemed a bit unbelievable (ie figuring out who the abductor is and a teenage detective savant) but yeah it was alright。 I'd give it a C+。 。。。more

Sunshine Vicram (along with her 14 year-old daughter) is returning to her New Mexico hometown as a newly elected sheriff having fled as a young woman following an abduction/rape。 Her first day on the job she is faced with the abduction of a 14 year-old girl。 While I enjoyed the snarky humor, the colorful, zany characters and a town that’s a bit out of the ordinary, I had some issues here。 First, the abduction of a 14 yo girl seems to almost take a backseat to Sunny’s preoccupation with the men i Sunshine Vicram (along with her 14 year-old daughter) is returning to her New Mexico hometown as a newly elected sheriff having fled as a young woman following an abduction/rape。 Her first day on the job she is faced with the abduction of a 14 year-old girl。 While I enjoyed the snarky humor, the colorful, zany characters and a town that’s a bit out of the ordinary, I had some issues here。 First, the abduction of a 14 yo girl seems to almost take a backseat to Sunny’s preoccupation with the men in her orbit, and the pace for a child abduction case is oddly unhurried。 Second, while I think Sunny is meant to be seen as a scrappy, independent survivor, she is often seen as being either overprotected or inappropriately flirted with by the male characters around her。。。and this doesn’t bother her。 Her young daughter is also developing a relationship with her own “knight in shining armor”。 For me personally there were a couple of disturbing flashbacks of Sunny as a 12 and 14 year-old being explicitly sexually harassed by boys three years her senior (freshman/senior), and she doesn’t seem that disturbed by it as an adult law enforcement officer。 I think maybe I took this one way more seriously than the author intended。 It IS well-written and the humor is quite engaging。 I do plan to give the second in series a go and see where things go from here。 。。。more

Potential trigger warning, the protagonist assumes a past rape that she cannot remember。 This isn't my favorite Darynda Jones book, but I think the sequel will improve my rating。 Potential trigger warning, the protagonist assumes a past rape that she cannot remember。 This isn't my favorite Darynda Jones book, but I think the sequel will improve my rating。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this one! It has smart, quippy dialogue and GREAT quirky characters! I’m so glad this is the first in a series because I really want to get back to Del Sol, New Mexico, where Sunshine Vicram has just been elected Sheriff, even though she didn’t know she was on the ballot。The town itself is a character and one you are definitely rooting for。 It’s a fictional town in northern NM where Sunshine grew up。 She left as soon as she was old enough and has just returned with her smart and I really enjoyed this one! What a fun book - some humor, some mystery, some romance。 It has all the things。I adored Sunshine and her teenage daughter, Auri。 Interesting as their story unfolds。 I enjoyed everyone in town from Sunshine's parents to Levi to the cafe owners。 Definitely will continue reading the series。 What a fun book - some humor, some mystery, some romance。 It has all the things。I adored Sunshine and her teenage daughter, Auri。 Interesting as their story unfolds。 I enjoyed everyone in town from Sunshine's parents to Levi to the cafe owners。 Definitely will continue reading the series。 。。。more

Jauka, saulaina, pozitīva grāmata。 Te ir tāds žanru mikslis - nedaudz detektīvs, nedaudz humors, nedaudz romantikas un YA。 Vietām tiešām varēja skaļi smieties。 Papildus zvaigzne par nekaitinošu pusaudzi un bēgļu gaitās devušos gaili vārdā Puff Daddy!
