Summary

The Restoration of Celia Fairchild is wise, witty, and utterly compelling。” —Jane Green, New York Times bestselling author of The Friends We Keep

Evvie Drake Starts Over meets The Friday Night Knitting Club in this wise and witty novel about a fired advice columnist who discovers lost and found family members in Charleston, by the New York Times bestselling author of The Second Sister

Celia Fairchild, known as advice columnist ‘Dear Calpurnia’, has insight into everybody’s problems — except her own。 Still bruised by the end of a marriage she thought was her last chance to create a family, Celia receives an unexpected answer to a “Dear Birthmother” letter。 Celia throws herself into proving she’s a perfect adoptive mother material — with a stable home and income — only to lose her job。 Her one option: sell the Charleston house left to her by her recently departed, estranged Aunt Calpurnia。

Arriving in Charleston, Celia learns that Calpurnia had become a hoarder, the house is a wreck, and selling it will require a drastic, rapid makeover。 The task of renovation seems overwhelming and risky。 But with the help of new neighbors, old friends, and an unlikely sisterhood of strong, creative women who need her as much as she needs them, Celia knits together the truth about her estranged family — and about herself。

The Restoration of Celia Fairchild is an unforgettable novel of secrets revealed, laughter released, creativity rediscovered, and waves of wisdom by a writer Robyn Carr calls "my go-to author for feel-good novels。”

If you've read any of Bostwick's books, this is very much in line with all of them。 A delightful, easy story about a woman finding her place in life after going through hard times。 The supporting characters are fun, I enjoyed the Charleston setting, and I appreciated that Bostwick didn't just hand Celia a pat happy-ever-after。 If you've read any of Bostwick's books, this is very much in line with all of them。 A delightful, easy story about a woman finding her place in life after going through hard times。 The supporting characters are fun, I enjoyed the Charleston setting, and I appreciated that Bostwick didn't just hand Celia a pat happy-ever-after。 。。。more

Celia Fairchild is an advice columnist known as Dear Sugar, until she's not。 Celia Fairchild lives in NYC until she doesn't。 Although her world has been turned upside down she makes sense of it through the restoration of her aunt's old house。 Along the way she also makes sense of what it means to be a family。 This is a great story of perseverance, friendship, and what that all results in in the end。 Celia Fairchild is an advice columnist known as Dear Sugar, until she's not。 Celia Fairchild lives in NYC until she doesn't。 Although her world has been turned upside down she makes sense of it through the restoration of her aunt's old house。 Along the way she also makes sense of what it means to be a family。 This is a great story of perseverance, friendship, and what that all results in in the end。 。。。more

Happy Mother's Day ! Here is the perfect story about alternative motherhood and family。 This "Southern-Lit" novel is a beautiful escape to Charleston, South Carolina in a historic neighborhood with eclectic characters。 Thoroughly enjoyable plot, setting, characters, and a satisfying ending。 I listened to this book on Audio , the narration is also good。 This book wanders a bit with it's pacing, ( 3 stars) but it is still delightful。 I do recommend this stand-alone Southern Charmer。 Enjoy。 Happy Mother's Day ! This was a decent contemporary fiction, though it was very predictable and the pacing was little all over the place。 I’m glad I read it, but I probably wouldn’t read it again。 If you want a light read that looks at someone’s life, then this book is for you

My book club is reading this book this month, and I am glad I read it。 It was an easy read。 What intrigued me about this story was that it dealt with a woman whose career ,as she knows it, is over and she tries to find something else to take its place ---- And at the right time, her aunt leaves the family house to her 。 A House that has to be restored, much like her。 It is kind of a Hallmark set- up to a story, but there are more layers to her than Hallmark usually deals with in a 90 minute movi My book club is reading this book this month, and I am glad I read it。 It was an easy read。 What intrigued me about this story was that it dealt with a woman whose career ,as she knows it, is over and she tries to find something else to take its place ---- And at the right time, her aunt leaves the family house to her 。 A House that has to be restored, much like her。 It is kind of a Hallmark set- up to a story, but there are more layers to her than Hallmark usually deals with in a 90 minute movie。 Another part I liked to this story is the community she is able to build among the neighbors in Charleston。 The people lean on each other, and do craft stuff with each other, and end up helping to restore the place together, and that is a nice thing to know, esp。 in such a volatile climate we are living in these days。 What I didn't like was that the book was all set up around her wanting to have a baby and that it was her last chance, and that story fizzled out --- it no longer took priority with her。 And all the remodeling got boring in the middle , and it was hard to believe that all that was getting done。 The love story was a bit thin, too。 There were a few guys thrown in for us to think she'd end up with them, but then a guy that isn't in the story all that much, she decides is for her。 So I had a few mixed feelings about it and would have given it 3。8 out of 5, if I could, but I decided to round it up to 4 because, like I started saying --- it was an easy read, and it hit me at the right time。 。。。more
