A nice, quick and easy read。 Maybe a little rushed at the end but generally I enjoyed this book。

This is a good, thrilling and intriguing, murder mystery。 Set in a ski resort where a group of people come together and soon things start to fall apart and there are cracks that appear, until shock horror a death happens。 If you love locked room mysteries, Agatha Christie style whodunnits this is one for you to pick up and read。

Omg!!! I absolutely loved this book and had me gripped all day。 I haven’t read a book in a day for ages so shows me how good it was。 There was so many twists and turns through the book and was constantly trying to work out who the bad guy is in the novel。 I can’t wait to read the next one from this author :)

Hayley Dunning

Fast, fun read, so-so twists。

An enjoyable book that flips between 2008 and the present day, it is situated in a ski resort in France and is about a young man that dies whilst getting lost in the mountains。 The story flips between then, when the man died and what had happened in the past, and now, a group of people holidaying at the same resort。 The two timelines are cleverly intertwined to make an interesting story that keeps the readers interested。

I absolutely raced through this slick, page-turning thriller which alternated between the present and past to discover what happened to one of two brothers who went missing on a skiing holiday twenty years ago。 There was something of a whodunnit Agatha Christie feel to it, and I enjoyed the fact that the story was told through various characters perspectives, the author cleverly inserting little hints that they could be the guilty party, but of course never to the extent you’re ever sure who is I absolutely raced through this slick, page-turning thriller which alternated between the present and past to discover what happened to one of two brothers who went missing on a skiing holiday twenty years ago。 There was something of a whodunnit Agatha Christie feel to it, and I enjoyed the fact that the story was told through various characters perspectives, the author cleverly inserting little hints that they could be the guilty party, but of course never to the extent you’re ever sure who is to blame and who can be trusted。 The setting in the French Alps is a hit in itself; it’s clear how familiar the author is with the area as I really felt like I was there, experience the sights, smells and general atmosphere of the place。 The whole premise of the story is extremely clever and richly layered, the plot constantly unfolding with more twists and turns and dark secrets revealed that I didn’t see coming, until we reach the final big reveal。 It really was one of those books you can’t put down, and it’s a must for crime/psychological thriller readers, and anyone wanting to escape with a adrenaline-fueling thriller。 。。。more

Entertaining book but a little predictable。 I was very interested in finding out the details of the murder though。

This didn’t go the way I expected at all! I thought it would be a murder mystery like Cluedo。 But it’s so good - a really simple yet deceptive narrative that is so easy to read。 I really enjoyed it and read it almost in one go。

Inga Vesper

A zippy, riveting little thriller。 The story stalls somewhat towards the end, but the atmosphere is amazing and the characters so well drawn。 Perfect read for a cold afternoon, I raced through it in a day。

Sara Eames

A slightly unbelievable, yet nonetheless reasonable, thriller with well-written characters and a plot that moves at a steady pace。 Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the progression of the story。 Recommended

I noticed this one before it was published, but didn’t get a chance to read it。 The cover and description grabbed my attention, so I snatched up the the audiobook when I saw it was available。 I had a small road trip planned, and thought it would be a fabulous way to pass the time。 It was filled with annoyingly unlikable characters。 Unfortunately, they weren’t the type that you love to hate, so I grew tiresome of their antics early on。 The story itself was well-written, but I didn’t care for it a I noticed this one before it was published, but didn’t get a chance to read it。 The cover and description grabbed my attention, so I snatched up the the audiobook when I saw it was available。 I had a small road trip planned, and thought it would be a fabulous way to pass the time。 It was filled with annoyingly unlikable characters。 Unfortunately, they weren’t the type that you love to hate, so I grew tiresome of their antics early on。 The story itself was well-written, but I didn’t care for it as much as I thought I would。 Because I think my lack of enjoyment was due to the characters and not the story itself, I’ll give the author another try。 Her upcoming thriller “The Chateau” has already made my radar!!My Rating: 3 ⭐️’s Published: November 12th 2020 by HarperCollins Publishers UK Pages: 390 。。。more

was it murder or an accident - a thoroughly enjoyable mystery。

A story set in the French Alps, which flicks back and forth between the late 90’s and 2020。 Three different groups of people, at different times, who connect in some way but you’re never quite sure how。Really enjoyed this thriller!

Sarah Dootson

One of those books where each chapter is a different person 。。。 usually hate those types but this was fantastic 。。。 Twists from the middle of the story right to the end !!!

Sally

Terrible。 A whole set of completely unlikeable characters, a plot you can work out half-way through, and the only good thing I can think of to say is you can race through it in 2 days。

Chrissi

I enjoyed this book。 It was particularly gripping in places。 I guessed one of the twists but one I was blindsided by!

Wow。 I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure if this book would be for me, having zero interest in skiing and the like, but my word I was wrong。 I read this book in three nights as I quite literally could not put it down。 It is packed full of unlikeable and untrustworthy characters, short fast-paced chapters and more twists and turns than an Olympic ski slope。 I loved the dual timeline that ran through the book and then the third element of the “before” had me second guessing myself and changing my m Wow。 I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure if this book would be for me, having zero interest in skiing and the like, but my word I was wrong。 I read this book in three nights as I quite literally could not put it down。 It is packed full of unlikeable and untrustworthy characters, short fast-paced chapters and more twists and turns than an Olympic ski slope。 I loved the dual timeline that ran through the book and then the third element of the “before” had me second guessing myself and changing my mind constantly。 What a fantastic debut novel and a brilliant thriller read。 5 stars from me 。。。more

A gripping and chilly thriller, The Chalet is a thoroughly entertaining read that feels like a weekend away with all of the fun that it takes you on。Combining her love of skiing and thriller books, you can tell that Cooper is writing from some experience as I felt like I was on the slopes with these characters, feeling the harsh wind on my cheeks and the aching in my thighs from the exercise。 Unlike those attempting a ski, I was dreaming of being back at the luxury resort, sat in the hot tub wit A gripping and chilly thriller, The Chalet is a thoroughly entertaining read that feels like a weekend away with all of the fun that it takes you on。Combining her love of skiing and thriller books, you can tell that Cooper is writing from some experience as I felt like I was on the slopes with these characters, feeling the harsh wind on my cheeks and the aching in my thighs from the exercise。 Unlike those attempting a ski, I was dreaming of being back at the luxury resort, sat in the hot tub with a glass of bubbly and getting stuck into this gripping thriller。I didn’t read the synopsis before starting this book (I merely went off the constantly great reviews I was reading!) and I’m glad that I didn’t, as I had no idea how the two narratives were going to come together。 I think that there were parts that could have been more seamless in their transition, but I also appreciate that Cooper didn’t take too long to get to the main action。As a debut novel, Cooper does a remarkable job of building up the tension。 The drama is entertaining, the revelations are dark, and the thrills are adrenaline-pumping。 With engaging characters and beautifully-described settings, it’s everything that you want from a quick-paced thriller。Immensely enjoyable, this is definitely a book worth picking up。 I can’t wait to see what Cooper writes next! 。。。more

3。5 stars。 Picked this up during a Kindle ebook sale for $0。99, and glad I did! This was an easy-to-read and fun murder mystery set in the French Alps。 I really enjoyed the way that the two timelines came together in Part III, and it was so satisfying when the characters' motives were unraveled。 Felt like the board game Clue。 Like others have said, it was a fun, light-hearted escapism for glamorous winter travel in a time that we are all stuck at home。 3。5 stars。 Picked this up during a Kindle ebook sale for $0。99, and glad I did! I really enjoyed this!Set in two different timelines we follow two sets of holiday makers as they stay in the chalet。 In 1998 two brothers are spending time with their girlfriends and skiing until one day, in horrendous weather, a tragic accident occurs。 One brother dies, the other survives。Twenty years later and Ria and Hugo are at the chalet hoping to bag a business deal with Simon, also staying in the chalet with his wife Cass, son Inigo and nanny Sarah。 All looked after by chalet girl Millie I really enjoyed this!Set in two different timelines we follow two sets of holiday makers as they stay in the chalet。 In 1998 two brothers are spending time with their girlfriends and skiing until one day, in horrendous weather, a tragic accident occurs。 One brother dies, the other survives。Twenty years later and Ria and Hugo are at the chalet hoping to bag a business deal with Simon, also staying in the chalet with his wife Cass, son Inigo and nanny Sarah。 All looked after by chalet girl Millie and assistant Matt。But somebody knows what happened two decades ago and wants revenge。I enjoyed switching between the two storylines, wondering how they were connected。 Where it was going to go。I found myself quickly immersed in the writing style and story itself。 Definitely a page turner。Quite a few twists featured, some I was not prepared for。 But the mystery was well set and suspense lingered between the pages。 You'll be second guessing each character, I know I was! This was a fast-paced brilliant thriller。 I'd love to read more by this author。 。。。more

What an absolutely fantastic book! I was truly gripped by it and excited to read on at any opportunity。I love books where the chapters are from the different characters' perspectives and chronological jumping, and this book did just that, giving us an insight into the different events from the view of different protagonists。 The narratives flick between a visit to a chalet in the current day and a visit to the same resort by two couples 20 years earlier。 As you read the different accounts of the What an absolutely fantastic book! Much better than expectedI started to read this on a whim during a ski vacation。 I was a bit weary because I had just read another mystery in a similar mountain setting and thought that maybe I was overdoing the theme but this was different enough from the previous one。 I would say that this one has more of a "luxury ski vacation" vibe almost throughout the entire book, so it is enjoyable even for those who don't like mysteries as it gets a bit darker only towards the end I have enjoyed the few Much better than expectedI started to read this on a whim during a ski vacation。 I was a bit weary because I had just read another mystery in a similar mountain setting and thought that maybe I was overdoing the theme but this was different enough from the previous one。 I would say that this one has more of a "luxury ski vacation" vibe almost throughout the entire book, so it is enjoyable even for those who don't like mysteries as it gets a bit darker only towards the end I have enjoyed the few twists and I like that the author switched the dual timeline a bit when she introduced the backstory of one of the characters (I wasn't expecting that)。 All in all this is a worthwhile read, especially if you are on a ski vacation。 。。。more
