It was pretty good! I really got attached to all the characters and loved seeing them grow as their lives were falling apart because of the “murder”。 Definitely did or think it would end the way it did, but thoroughly enjoyed it。

So。 Many。 Good。 Thropes。 This would've probably been a five-star read, if it weren't for the fact, that it took me about five months to complete the first few chapters。 Five。 Months。Although this may not be because of the book itself, but because I was immensely busy and had also more love for particular fandoms and different fantasy worlds at the time, but mostly I stay over one book, which didn't happen with One Of Us Is Lying。 Nonetheless, the characters were *chefs kiss*。 Even though I did i So。 Many。 Good。 Thropes。 This would've probably been a five-star read, if it weren't for the fact, that it took me about five months to complete the first few chapters。 Five。 Months。Although this may not be because of the book itself, but because I was immensely busy and had also more love for particular fandoms and different fantasy worlds at the time, but mostly I stay over one book, which didn't happen with One Of Us Is Lying。 Nonetheless, the characters were *chefs kiss*。 Even though I did in fact guess at the very first 30 pages who kills Simon (and was right about it), I still felt very unsure with my claims and started to question most of the main characters halfway through the book, on every single occasion。Every Character to show up was suddenly suspicious。 This book made me paranoid as fuck, and I loved it way too much。Anyway, back to the characters。 So Nate was my favourite from the very start (is it because I have a type and it's dark-haired murder suspects? Yes, yes it is), and I adored Cooper after the first few chapters which could also be because I've basically guessed his secret right away and I really hung onto that theory。 Which proved to be right at least。Bronwyn was sort of a surprise but she's grown so much on me, I could never leave her out。Addy was。。。Well, I didn't like her at first, at all。 She seemed dull and boring, only being an asset to her boyfriend。 And then the whole thing with TJ。。。 But she had one of the best character developments ever, so, no harm done。All in all, this was an amazing book and singlehandedly one of the best ones I've read this year (and we're only in May-) even though I wanted more Kris content。 。。。more

Meh。 I wanted to find out how this YA ended, but didn’t connect with the characters and found it dragged a bit in parts。 Not interested in reading the series。

Linz the Bookworm: 2021 Reading Challenge(Audiobook)I enjoyed the book, but wasn't totally swept off my feet (and that is 100% okay!) Maybe it was the audiobook format, but the characters felt a bit flat。 Linz the Bookworm: 2021 Reading Challenge(Audiobook)I enjoyed the book, but wasn't totally swept off my feet (and that is 100% okay!) I guessed half of the mystery halfway through, but I missed the other part, which was fun。 I enjoyed the characters and the plot, though I felt like the end was a little rushed。SpoilerThe characters were well done, though I wish that they'd been viable suspects for longer than a few chapters。 I guessed half of the mystery halfway through, but I missed the other part, which was fun。 I enjoyed the characters and the plot, though I felt like the end was a little rushed。SpoilerThe characters were well done, though I wish that they'd been viable suspects for longer than a few chapters。 。。。more

Torn on how to rate this one。 I give it a hesitant 4。 It was a great suspenseful page turner。 I loved the characters and while I figured out part of the ending, part was a surprise, but。。。。Conservative Mama Notes- this is definitely R rated。 While it likely reflects the secular high school experience, there is so much in here that conflicts with my Christian valuesSex - yes, unmarried, underageUnderage Alcohol and drug use - yesViolence yesBad language - yesAnd so much lying and manipulation and Torn on how to rate this one。 I give it a hesitant 4。 It was a great suspenseful page turner。 I loved the characters and while I figured out part of the ending, part was a surprise, but。。。。Conservative Mama Notes- this is definitely R rated。 While it likely reflects the secular high school experience, there is so much in here that conflicts with my Christian valuesSex - yes, unmarried, underageUnderage Alcohol and drug use - yesViolence yesBad language - yesAnd so much lying and manipulation and deceit 。。。more

it was okay。 i wasn’t blown away but i was only slightly disappointed。 i liked the coverage of mental health。 i also liked the romantic relationship。 i felt like the plot twist to was just meh, and some of the parts in the book dragged on for too long。

I was really disappointed in this book。 There was a lot of language, including f-bombs, and innuendo。 I was also disgusted by Addy’s mom, who told her she should always say yes to sex because if she didn’t her boyfriend would leave her and find someone else who would。

Katie

Great book with an amazing plot!

I liked it, it had a good plot and I loved all the characters。 It had pretty little liars and gossip girl vibes and a nice plot twist that I enjoyed。

Evie

I cannot explain how much I loved this book。 It had so many plot twists, and kept me on my toes wondering who murdered Simon。

lara yildirim

I loved the plots of the book never expected such an ending。

I can see how, if I read this as a tween, teen, or even twentysomething, I’d go gaga。 The story is compelling enough, though some exhausted tropes are grating。 And even for a YA, the writing is boringly simple, although it perfectly captures era/semi-decade mid-Two Thousand Teens (2013-2019)。。。 as far as tech, social media, American culture, etc。 Some YA transcends age, this doesn’t, but that’s okay。 I recommend this for ages 12-25。

Great book!

This book is really interesting。 It had you guessing who did it and why they did it。 In my opinion it was a little slow in the begging and a little fast near the end。 The plot twists were unexpected。 The characters were very interesting。

Finally finished a book in May!! I hate exams。3。5 I enjoyed this more than I thought I would but I like my mysteries to be about 10x creepier and usually not in a contemporary setting。

Listened to the audiobook read by Kim Mai Guest, MacLeod Andrews, Shannon McManus and Robbie Daymond。I can see why this book is such a hit, especially for fans of YA contemporary novels。 The kids have typical teenage problems – self-esteem, romance, friendship, controlling parents, negligent parents, absentee parents, college-enrolment, social media… which is sure to appeal to readers of the same demography who can identify with these issues。I gave the book 3 stars, however, mostly for its reada Listened to the audiobook read by Kim Mai Guest, MacLeod Andrews, Shannon McManus and Robbie Daymond。I can see why this book is such a hit, especially for fans of YA contemporary novels。 The kids have typical teenage problems – self-esteem, romance, friendship, controlling parents, negligent parents, absentee parents, college-enrolment, social media… which is sure to appeal to readers of the same demography who can identify with these issues。I gave the book 3 stars, however, mostly for its readability and its suspense value as a mystery novel。 I’d guessed who the murderer was early in the novel, but not his accomplices nor their motives。 (view spoiler)[It was obvious from the start that the murder victim had in fact committed suicide and framed the four main characters。 One big clue for me (which is not even picked up in the novel!) is that Simon died drinking tap water laced with peanut oil。 Um…isn’t that a stupid way to try to kill someone with a peanut allergy? What if he only takes a tiny sip and refuses to drink anymore, since the water tastes weird? (hide spoiler)] The police were oddly incompetent, but I guess that is a necessary plot device to enable the kids to solve the mystery themselves。 The reason I didn’t enjoy the book more was that the characters were not very endearing。 Most of them behaved abominably and I’m not sure there was any real character growth by the end of the novel。 Maybe I just hate to think that teenagers (excepting those in a fantasy novel where the world is so different) can be so evil and selfish in so many different ways。 Just goes to show how messed up their society is。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 DNF。 I didn’t hate the book, but it has many flaws。1。 There’s a lot of slut shaming。2。 The book ignores the bad things Cooper has done only because he’s gay。 It ignores the fact that he has cheated and hurt Keely。3。 At least 70% of Addy’s POVs are about her cheating on Jake, but not even 1% of Cooper’s POVs are about cheating on Keely。4。 Cooper being gay shouldn’t be a plot twist, and it shouldn’t be used as a surprise factor for the reader。 5。 The characters’ personality is too stereotyped for DNF。 I didn’t hate the book, but it has many flaws。1。 There’s a lot of slut shaming。2。 The book ignores the bad things Cooper has done only because he’s gay。 It ignores the fact that he has cheated and hurt Keely。3。 At least 70% of Addy’s POVs are about her cheating on Jake, but not even 1% of Cooper’s POVs are about cheating on Keely。4。 Cooper being gay shouldn’t be a plot twist, and it shouldn’t be used as a surprise factor for the reader。 5。 The characters’ personality is too stereotyped for them to be able to have some type of character development。6。 Simon’s depression is villanized, and mental illnesses are poorly portrayed。7。 Suicide was portrayed as a mystery to be solved。 8。 Another side character was also depressed。 She was Simon’s accomplice and framed his death on Addy, Bronwyn, Cooper, and Nate。 Depression is villanized again, through her。 。。。more

I completely enjoyed reading One of Us is Lying and I’d definitely recommend it。 It was written beautifully and had moments of humor, suspense, and sadness。
